List and primer at above link, looks neat. Think it's viable to play at events/FNM?

I can't say I'm pleased to see you and must warn you I may have to do something about it.

Bottom decklist is a 5-0 comp league deck. I built it and it goldfishes well imo. Could/should be fun for an FNM. I think it would be hard to run it through a bigger tournament.
Sweeeet. Any suggestions for further improvements?

Since I have only played against it this is an outsiders view. But, can Courier be removed for more Grim Lavamancer? If not, is Snap Caster a possibility? And, why Gut Shot? Why not Forked Bolt or Lava Spike?
Seth goes into the question of why Gut Shot a bit in his writeup, btw. To give a slightly longer answer based on my experience:
1) Prowess. With Swiftspear and Soul-Scar, casting as many spells as possible in a single turn is a primary concern, and paying 0 helps this cause more than paying 1. And who wouldn't love to go t1 SSM, t2 tap out for swiftspear and be able to confidently attack into a pair of 2/2 Bridge From Below tokens, or maybe even a Steel Leaf Champion?
2) Flame of Keld. Similarly to 1), each spell you hoard and unleash on Chapter III gets a bonus, so a zero-mana lightning bolt may be more useful than a one-mana burn spell you can't cast.
3) Thalia. If you've ever killed Thalia with a Gut Shot when you have only one land in play, you should understand why this is important for when you're in a meta that has humans (or Hatebears, etc.).
4) Insult // Injury. While Seth claims to have never cast Insult proper, I've used it plenty in Standard to do 20-30 damage in a turn out of nowhere. See 1) and 2) above.
None of this is to say that Gut Shot is the nuts or irreplaceable, so don't be afraid to innovate.
As for adding Lavamancers, they and Soul-Scar are the only creatures that never have haste, but SSM turns on wither once it lands. Since Grimmy quickly eats the yard, it's generally very bad in multiples. The presence of Faithless and Flame of Keld in this deck may fill the yard a bit faster though?
As for Snapcasters, this is a hyper-aggro, super-low CMC mono-red deck, so it might take some tinkering to find a good way to cram him in there (and it could make the manabase a bit less budget if you start throwing in Scalding Tarns and the like, but the Lavaman might like that).

To echo point #3, I pilot Death & Taxes as one of my main modern decks, and gut shot has done in my Thalia a number of times. Lavamancer relies on a full graveyard and having too many of em becomes either a dead draw or you just lack a full graveyard to keep up with the ability.
This is a mono-red aggro/burn deck, so Snapcaster would force a color splash and be incredibly expensive to boot. Considering I'm a poor college student, I can't really justify spending that much on a single piece of cardboard haha.

Sooo anything to deviate from the main budget build is a no go. lol If I do pick up the deck I’ll just have to innovate by myself.
Honestly for me splashing blue is the only real no go. I'll prolly pick up Goblin Guide and some other upgrades eventually, but rn I'm poor lol

Now that GRN has been released, I'm considering adding Risk Factor to this deck, probably as a 2-of. I'm not sure what I'd cut for it yet.
I'm not sure it's right, but maybe a gut shot and a flame of Keld? I'm thinking you'll need more lands for risk factor potentially. My first though was to cut bomat, but he actually works incredibly well with jump start spells. Gut shot as a 2x seems fine, and in playtesting I found multiples of flame of keld to be annoying.
I've been testing this deck on xmage and have been getting good results with it, it's basically an aggro deck that can play the long game a little bit due to the draw power of bomat courier and flame of keld.
Using the 5-0 list as a base I traded the insult//injury for one lavamancer and two smuggler's copter for two abrades and the deck seems fine to me. Definetely FNM playable.
With the shear amount of discard in the deck is hollow one worth considering?
Given that the majority of the discard in this deck makes you pitch your whole hand, probably not.
Also, Risk Factor seems awkward here as a 3-mana card in an 18 land deck, although I do like that we can discard it and still play it later.
I really like this deck, but I feel like it's at a pretty high local maximum for what it is, and it would be pretty hard to improve without taking it in a totally different direction.
I tried Risk Factor but found it to be too clunky. Also been switching back and forth between Tormod's Crypt and Relic of Progenitus. While can trip of Relic is great, I feel the loss of cards in my own yard is a nonbo with so many other cards in the deck and what I am trying to do. Not so sure whether or not to stick with Alpine Moon or go to Blood Moon; I consider Blood Moon to be better overall, but sometimes (most times?) not fast enough. Also in SB, I have split between Shattering Spree and Smash to Smithereensjust because I am paranoid about Chalice on 1. Finally playing with Satyr Firedancer. tho havent seen it come into play yet; same for Rampaging Ferocidon as I have found lifegain to be so damaging to this deck's ability to win.
A final question: Generally speaking how much bolting to creatures can the deck allow before I have effectively taken myself out of a chance of winning? I find this to be a problem against creature decks like WG Valuetown. Welcome comments

Been trying this deck out and it can be a lot of fun and at times so frustrating... but that's MTG.
Here is my deck:

4 Ghitu Lavarunner
2 Grim Lavamancer
4 Monastery Swiftspear
4 Soul-Scar Mage
4 Bomat Courier
1 Rampaging Ferocidon
4 Faithless Looting
2 Gut Shot
4 Fiery Temper
4 Wizard's Lightning
4 Lightning Bolt
3 The Flame of Keld
2 Alpine Moon
3 Tormod's Crypt
2 Young Pyromancer
2 Goblin Chainwhirler
1 Shattering Spree
