So I'm trying to get into modern, and the only way I can commit to formats is with something that revolves around a card I love. Well I love the aweful card Liquimetal Coating. Some friends of mine have helped me get this build together which from what I can gather is basically the Thropter Sword shell with my combo.
Right now I'm trying to get some opinions on what I can do to flesh this out and make it a little more cohesive and possibly competitive. I know that trying to assemble a 3 card combo in modern is a fool's errand and embrace that wholeheartedly. Any and all suggestions welcome.
My first recommendation would be Felidar Guardian. It gives your combo extra redundancy, and running white isn't that much of a stretch here. It's also a 2-card combo instead of a 3-card combo. Tezzeret the Seeker is another classic win condition for these kinds of decks.
Second, consider more of the in-between when you don't have your combo. Ensnaring Bridge is an excellent stall card, but I'm concerned that you might not be able to dump your hand fast enough to use it without Bottled Cloister. You also have a lot more to do if you have Saheeli without the artifact portions of your combo rather than the other way around. The fact that Altar and Coating don't have much to offer on their own (or together) is going to hurt you. You either need to live long enough to combo off or find your pieces more efficiently.
Looks like a good deck for 2 Artificer's Intuition
While this card does nearly nothing in the way of getting your game winning combo, can only get an alter. It does however give you the ability to get answers. Your extra mox can become card draw in baubles. They can become removal in the form of spellbomb and explosives. Welding jar can become planeswalker hoser in needles. An extra alter can suddenly pull lands out of your deck with maps.
I'm sure you could add this and tweak the cards a bit to form a better more consistent deck.
And like the pros say in the older formats playing intuition. Serium Power has no downside. Meaning you can always play 4 of them in a deck with multiple copies of intuition and if you don't use it to mull you can always discard to find an answer or card draw.
Personally, I don't think that it is worth it to dedicate more than the minimum number of copies of the altar+coating combo as both do nothing outside of it and rely on tutors to assemble it.
Having thopter-sword in the deck is a no-brainer imho and adding a copy or two of Tezzeret would be pretty good as well to dig for the pieces and be an alternative win-con.
Thanks for the suggestions all. I'm still tooling with the deck and will consider these additions. Right now I'm basically looking at the deck becoming a toolbox type deck. The most recent iteration is looking at dropping one Antiquities War for Crucible of Worlds and adding 2 Ipnu Rivulets for the slow grind.
One question I have is if I'm going to mainboard the Thopter-Sword combo how many copies of each would you suggest. if I'm going toolbox I would only think 1 of either. Anyway, I'll get a few games in with some of these changes and get back with you.

The combo I am trying to pull out is Liquimetal Coating targeting Saheeli Rai, who in turn targets herself infinitely with Altar of the Brood in play. Ensnaring Bridge with Bottled Cloister allows for us to survive to dig for the combo, also making use of the heavy amount of artifacts in the deck by playing 3 copies of The Antiquities War.
