So I'm just now building my first deck for modern fnm's in my area. I do have about a 250 dollar storm combo deck planned out and sitting in my online shopping cart. But before I purchased I wanted to see if I could make a semi-competitive deck (by that I mean win some games and have some fun) with a mindslaver lock combo deck in a pretty standard mono-blue control shell. I really love the card and would love to make it work in a deck. However, most of the decks I see it in are really expensive tron decks (I'm not on that tight budget but these decks are 3-4 times as expensive as my storm deck). I was thinking of just rigging a mono-blue control deck to fit the mindslaver lock on top as a finisher using countermagic and deck thinning to keep me going till the endgame. Is this idea too silly to work and would I be better off just going with storm, or could I make this work in a way that I could have some fnm fun?
If anyone has done something similar please let me know/suggest some cards to look into for it.
By all means play what you want to play, but I can’t imagine this working very often. I play a semi-budget u tron list and almost never actually get the lock. Modern is so fast.
So I actually scrapped the deck for that very reason. To satisfy my desire for a janky combo I went ahead and copied the mana source's vizkopa guildmage deck for some fun without having to put my storm deck on hold as it was only about 40 dollars. I look forward to tinkering with it and making it my own while perhaps adding some other unique win cons.
