I came up with this idea today while I was browsing around in the forums on my search for new decks and ideas for decks and wanted to share my thoughts with you and get some critics, other Ideas and feedback what could be improved.
First of all, I never played this "deck" or have any information about matchups or anything. I just want you to look at my idea an tell me what you think of it.
As you can see the deck tries to do some nice stuff with counter shenanigans on different cards to control the board and win the game.
There are a lot more cards with counters that can be abused in some ways. But I don't know other good counter manipulation cards except of proliferate or Clockspinning. Proliferate is almost no option, because I mostly need to remove counters from my cards. I wanted to play it on mtgo because I sold all my paper cards and keep it kind of budget so splashing another color has to have a very good reason to improve the deck.
Cards to also consider:
I think there are some more which I don't think of atm.
So mostly I need to remove counters from the cards I have in play, but there are some things you can do with your opponents cards like planeswalkers or something with +1/+1 counters on it.
Hex parasite is a very good option for that.
Ok that's it for now so maybe there are some people with good advice and interest in this deck. Hope to hear something from you.
Edit: A question came to my mind: can I respond to the cumulative upkeep trigger between the actions of putting an age counter on the permanent and paying the upkeep? Meaning, could I place an age counter on Phyrexian Soulgorger and remove it before I have to pay for it?
I feel like the concept is cool, but you have kinda gone overboard with the idea. I'd think there is some games you'd draw the wrong half of the deck rather than a mix of the two.
Some of these cards are begging for donate. I'd love to see a big etchings get passed to the opponent when it has like 5 or 6 age counters on it.
Hex parasite just screams play deaths shadow! You have no problem targeting any perm and removing 0 counters at the cost of paying 2 life as many times as you like. Meaning it can be whatever size you want whenever you want.
Decent into madness feels like it doesn't work because you want to it have a good number of counters.
The deck needs Fatal Push and fetchlands, or another really good removal spell to control the board.
Ammet Eternal looks super awesome. If you reduce the number of remove counters and counter shanagains then I'd still keep them.
I like the idea of splashing green in here if you can someday afford to. There are some really good -1/-1 counters things that have been printed lately. Also has cards that shuffle artifacts and enchantments into the controllers deck. So etchings won't cause you damage. Also can play the Black pact that makes you lose the game on the 4th turn after played. You could also draw 2 cards make them discard 2 cardsx do some damage then shuffle it away.

Green also allows for a 2nd turn Amy. Pretty sure she'll be bigger than whatever they are playing at that time.
That's just my rough impression and some ideas. Hope any of that helps.
Hey there, thanks for the reply and your thoughts.
Well descent into madness and etchings do a great job together. As long as you can afford it manawise, you draw cards with etchings which you can exile with descent. If etchings isn't affordable anymore, you can exile it with descent and also don't lose life. Hex parasite keeps descent in check and you can still keep it on the Battlefield.
The Idea with death's shadow seems interesting and I think it could be explored deeper. Maybe in place of Phyrexian Soulgorger. Fetchlands with push is great for sure, but not in my budget atm :-(
I will build the deck on mtgo and see how it plays out

Yeah, but it's really more "Disney Evil" than practical. It's like being a bond villain and giving a monologue rather then just shooting them.
If you want to play on MTGO add me I'm HeskatetAS, playing Modern and Legacy
Could use a murderous cut and some other combination of victim of the night, hero's downfall, doomblade, the new kills a non merfolk creature in place of push. I see your logic on decent. I was just stating it does the opposite of the decks main plan to keep away the counters. Could just be a good card in your deck that doesn't need counter manipulation unless it gets out of hand though I suppose.
Even if you don't have revolted Push you still hit most of the creatures which are majorly played like delver goyf pyromancer snapcaster confidant... But that needs to be tested.
Yeah descent may in most cases be the opposite, but it needs to be kept in check quite fast so I think it still needs counter manipulation and so "belongs" to the deck strategy.

Well adding solemnity to the deck means that both Phyrexian Etchings and Descent into Madness don't work. It would change the playstyle of the deck that much that I could just play a whole other deck. A splash for white is absolutely an option but with solemnity it would be too heavy.
I agree on path and probably the best Sideboard cards available at the moment with white. But first I want to build the deck in monoblack and see how it plays out. After gaining some info, I will start splashing colors and so on. Also, the removal of counters via hex parasite and power conduit still have profit which you wouldnt have with solemnity

Hi after I have finally put the deck together on mtgo and having played only 3 games where I won 2 and lost one game I got some insights. I think I need some more draw spells, because the deck runs out of gas quite fast after a board wipe. But I never drew Etchings in the 3 games...maybe i go up to 4.
Maybe i get some more conclusions when i play more games.

I think Geralf’s Messenger could earn a spot. Works well with Nykthos, works well with Hex Parasite and Power Conduit, and works well when you need to sac something. If you explore more self sacrificing options, Dark Prophecy can draw you some cards and also works well with Nykthos. Searched for ways to abuse spare charge counters, and couldn’t find any budget friendly options that seemed worth it, which is kind of a bummer.
Seems like a fun deck. Getting Descent to work is a neat challenge, so I would personally build towards that as the payoff, at least for starters. It may end up not being where the deck’s strength truly lies, and that’s fine, but I would stick with it throughout the early iterations of the deck.
Thanks for the suggestions. I thought of geralfs messenger and I think he may be worth the spot instead of Soulgorger, because he didn't function as I wanted.
Dark prophecy isn't a card I want in the deck, because I can't abuse it at its most. I would rather play grim haruspex because he provides a body and can make pressure.

I just saw the new spoilers and there is Magistrate's Scepter. This could be a tool which takes the deck further. You can do nice things with power conduit and having extra turns every 2 or 3 turns may be a nice thing.

I think I will try Read the Bones as a card draw effect. You can see up to 4 cards from it. Other options would be Night's Whisper or Sign in Blood.
