I've recently started playing magic again and since I've done some research to build myself a deck. That deck ended up being an aggro mono white humans.
I find this deck quite effective when playing casually with my friends. It gets the beatdown going quite quickly. I would like to have some opinions of great minds out there about some things I was thinking about. First of all, I stumbled on Archetype of Courage yesterday while searching and thought that it could be a good addition to the deck since every creature having first strike would possibly give them more chance of surviving some fights and keep the beatdown going by losing less creatures. I thought I could replace the Imposing Sovereign by a pair of Archetype of Courage. I have a hard time seeing which one would fit best since Sovereign does keep their blockers out for a turn which is nice though and it's a 2-drop vs a 3-drop so it seems more aggro friendly. The other card I was considering for the same spot was Gideon's Avenger which could make the opponent think twice before attacking. Same dilemma here... Any help would be greatly appreciated since I'm sure there are things I'm sure I'm not seeing.
I was also thinking about changing 2 or 4 Plains for 2 or 4 Cavern of Souls. Problem I see with 4 is that I could possibly be stuck with not enough white mana, since Caverns only produces colored mana for creatures.
As far as Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, for now, I have her in my sideboard since I'm playing a couple of spells in the main deck.
NOt bad. But you definitely want to main board Thalia and Caverns. The 2 colorless doesn't matter because Cavern's makes white mana for creatures. And you don't really have that many spells to make it hinder yourself. If anything put in Smuggler's Copter and possible another removal to assist you.
Pretty sure you can run some ghost qarters to battle the unfair decks. Shouldnt hurt your manabase that much. The white hideaway land would be great here also.possibly play the new white enchantment that flips.
Mainboard Thalia is insane in this meta, don't miss out even if you are doing spells. You can also try a Kazandu Blademaster and Hada Freeblade package to replace your soldier of the pantheon for occasional explosive starts and better creature quality. Grand Abolisher is always a great sideboard tech for humans too
Alright, so I've been thinking about this and I ended up mainboard Thalia, Guardian of Thraben. I basically replaced 3 of the Gather the townsfolk for 3 Thalias and replaced the last Townsfolk with another Imposing Sovereign to keep their blocker tapped. Since with Thalia my Honor of the Pure would cost 3, I got a suggestion of running Accorder Paladin since it almost has the same effect with it's Battle cry, and has good synergy with the deck. I find that it works quite well.
Now to get this deck one notch better, I was suggested to add some Aether Vial, which I think does make a lot of sense for a deck like this. I'm not exactly sure what I could swap for the Vials. Probably makes sense to run 4 of them. I was thinking of probably removing the 2 Kytheon since I barely ever draw it. Probably would remove one Soldier of the Pantheon and one Thraben Inspector to have enough space for the Vials.
Any thoughts on this ? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot !
Never remove the remaining little gideons. They are way roo powerful Id pissibly put them at 3. But 2 may be the correct number. Dont take a card out because you haven't drawn it yet. What does that do? End up with another card you won't draw? Maybe its the way you are shuffling?
Thanks guys for the input. I think you have a good point megatog201, it doesn't make sense to remove the little gideos because I don't draw them enough, so I will try running 3 of them. I decided to splash green to get access to Mayor of Avabruck, Warden of the first tree and Hamlet Captain. I also changed a bit my lands to incorporate Unclaimed Territory so I could sideboard Meddling Mage for troublesome cards.
At this point I am wondering what would be the best option for aggro. I'm not sure if I should change the Imposing Sovereigns by Hamlet Captains. I like the idea of having +1/+1 when attacking blocking, but at the same time, with Sovereign you can get tempo advantage which I think is a good thing in aggro. Would it be worth it swap a Imposing/Captain for a Brave the Elements ?
