Hey guys, I've got a home brew here I've done surprisingly well with online. So much so, I'm considering taking it to NC in October. Would really appreciate any feedback at all.
So far this deck has been doing very well against most midrange, control, and aggro decks. Turn two predator ooze + turn three rancor or nylea is unbeatable for some decks. My creatures are resilient to removal and good in combat. Tracker is oppressive in certain matchups, and the fight mechanics synergize well with predator ooze, nylea, geist, and the death touch from viper and bow of nylea. Another card worth mentioning is aspect of hydra, the amount of damage this thing puts out is unreal. For one mana I can usually add 5-9 damage at instead speed. It's usually how I get any turn 4 wins. Though I'm unsure if 4 is the right number.
However, combo, tron, and path to exile are all very good against me. Both lillianas, heavy discard, deflecting palm, and graveyard hate can cost me the game, but I can at least win through that sometimes.
At the moment I'm mono green, but for a major tournament I'm open to splashing a second or third color.
I like the mainboard as is, but I'm def open to changes. I think it's possible to replace wasteland viper and setessan tactics with better cards.
In the side, I really like chameleon colossus and some number of graveyard hate. I'm unsure about everything else though. If there's a way to keep this mono green then I will, but I'm Considering a black splash for discard spells to fight combo and tron while having a way to answer specific cards that hurt me like path and deflecting palm. Maybe even try lilliana's defeat for planeswalkers/death's shadow, though chameleon colossus might be enough already.
Again, would really appreciate any feedback. Thanks for taking the time to read my post!
Right now it feels like your deck is going 5 different places. Is it ramping? Is it just attacking with 1 creature then bloodrushing him? Is it trying to abuse mono green devotion? Which way do you want to go?
Noble Hierarch is strictly better than Elvish Mystic if you can afford it. Wasteland Viper seems like, well, a waste. I realize the interactions with fighting and such, but it seems not worth it. Perhaps Avatar of the Resolute is more your style. Leatherback Baloth is a good body above the curve with a good devotion count.
I want to say i dont like Ulvenwald Tracker, but it could have a lot of useful situations so, ill say that some number of them should probably be in the sideboard for game 1, as its dead against most non interactive decks, so 3 or 2 of should be fine in the main.
Since youre already buying into the devotion plan a Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx or 2 probably wouldnt hurt.
It's basically a green stompy deck. It just so happens there's enough devotion in the deck to activate nylea, which makes her an under costed beater that fits the theme of this deck, creatures that blank removal.
Likewise, aspect of hydra us incredible bang for your buck.
The mana dorks are for explosive plays. Turn two predator ooze followed by rancor or nylea on turn 3 forces the opponent to either race or path, otherwise they just die in 3 turns, assuming you dont have more pump spells. Ive had a grixis opponent scoop on turn three to this combination of cards.
Bloodrush snake is a little janky. I really
Wanted a one mana kill spell, but I felt my creature count was low. I thought this could be a little of both. Sometimes it works, he hangs back and prevents attacks. Or you can swing into something to kill it. It works especially well with something that has trample. But I agree, it could def be something else. Especially if I splash another color
I agree that noble heirarch is better. Ill have to get some to replace the mystics
I really want to play leatherback baloth, but I was worried my deck would be too 3-drop heavy. And with all the removal going around these days, I thought predator ooze and finks would be much better at sticking around, that way I don't have to spend more slots on protection spells like vines of the vastwood or blossoming defense. But going more agro could be correct, I'll have to test it and see.
Thank you dennis for the link! I was trying to find a monogreen agro primer but for some reason could not. I'll look into it for more ideas.
I'm gonna try splashing black and playing online a little today to see how it works out. I feel like discard and a one of pharika, god of affliction could really help this deck get through problem matchups
I worry about the non-creature decks like TitanShift with this one. I think to make it more competitive, I'd focus on speeding up the goldfish clock. What about a light red splash to enable Aspect of Hydra + Temur Battle Rage?
2 ulvenwald tracker
3 wasteland viper
4 strangleroot geist
3 scavenging ooze
4 predator ooze
4 kitchen finks
2 nylea, god of the hunt
4 rancor
4 aspect of hydra
3 setesan tactics
1 bow of nylea
2 treetop village
20 forest
4 tormod's crypt
2 chameleon colossus
2 beast within
2 obstinate baloth
1 garruk, primal hunter
2 reclamation sage
1 creeping corrosion
1 fracturing gust
