I've been brewing green based Saheeli for a month and really love it! Very cool to see there is a primer for the evolution version now, because I really think going green is the way to go for Saheeli in modern. It offers a lot of upside over the Jeskai versions. Thanks for starting this thread Lejoon!
After reading this primer, I tweaked my list a bit (main difference: replaced essence wardens for anafenza, kin tree spirit). I'll share my latest list and highlight some of the differences with the lists I've seen here:
Main differences:
- More Deadeye Harpooner (2 main, 1 side). Way better at grinding out creature decks than path to exile: tutorable with oath and evolution, value with all our blink and saheeli effects. I play a few more fetches to facilitate revolt (also useful for Rallier).
-Anafenza, the foremost in the side, even though it's black. I find I need to be able to slam T2 Anafenza the foremost to tackle dredge, living end and Grishoalbrand. Also very useful against abzan company and grixis delver/control. I added one overgrown tomb and play 4 birds instead of 3 to hardcast this if necessary.
- selfless spirits in the side against sweepers and to protect our silver bullets
Some findings:
- A small Nahiri + Sun Titan package in the board is great in all grindy matchups and adds even more combo possibilities. I also tried this package maindeck, but like it better in the side. It's too clunky for some matchups main, next to all the other 4-drops.
- Even the annoying eldrazi tron is quite doable post board in this build. The harpooners and Stony silence help a lot.
- I like a fourth Evolution in my board and board it in often, because G2 and G3 are often about jamming silver bullets asap, or comboing out asap. Evolution in the board makes all your 1 offs in the board effectively 2 offs. It's like having a 23 card sideboard
I was wondering: in which matchups do you guys board out the combo? I notice I leave it in against most decks. Against control I board out the guardians and the evolutions (but leave saheeli in to scry, ping and create etb trigger value) and against BGx I board out Evolutions, but leave the combo intact in case I draw it naturally. Against all other decks I leave the combo in, but am not sure this is correct.
I think felidar guardian is decent vs control indeed, because of the flicker effect. It's just that I like a lot of the cards in the board better than Felidar: 2x spirit (vs anger/damnation), 2 nahiri, finks, tusk, titan (deliver value even on an empty board, which happens often against control), eidolon and anafenza (break the snapcaster-command grind)
Spellskite might definitely be worth playing. Depending on my local meta I like Selfless spirit a bit better, because it protects the team against sweepers, but then again spellskite is better against infect, burn, bogles, etc. It depends on you local meta i guess
I like the idea of Saffi! Hadn't considered her. Not only does she protect your silver bullets, but even triggers their ETB effects a second time. And even better than an "indestructible" rallier, is an indestructible Sun Titan
She kinda fits the spellskite / selfless spirit spot. The way I see this spot:
- spellskite: when you expect a lot of infect, burn etc
- Saffi: when you expect a lot of midrange grinds with spot removal
- spirit: when you expect sweepers
This list recently 5-0'd a league, thought you all would be interested, don't know if tarmo is a good choice here over voice, but blade splicer seems incredible. easy to bounce and clone for value, and a great to sac to evo (though should be noted that this particular list runs no evos)
Sam Black wrote an article where he goes over some brews, including a Company version of the deck, essentially with Saheeli Rai and Felidar Guardian as the only non-hittable cards. It's definitely not as consistent as a deck that would play Chord or Evolution, but he does bring up a good point about the deck being able to ramp to 6 fairly consistently while also being able to disguise itself as a regular Company deck. Still, most good players would probably expect an infinite combo with the colors and card choices anyway so the surprise factor might not have much of an impacct.
Sam Pardee also uploaded a video series about the deck. His build is very similar to the ones on here. The notable difference is that he only mains 2 copies of Evolution.
Ok, so this deck has me pretty excited. Been looking for something new and different to get excited for, for a while now in Modern, and I think this deck is hitting all the right buttons for me right now. Ive been lurking the CoCo/Chord/Evo threads for a long time, and recently the Jeskai Saheeli thread also.
About a week about I put together my own Saheeli Evo list and began testing on Cockatrice. Since then i've been jamming games every night and trying out different things. This list has sooo much room for tuning, and there are just so many options, it makes it kinda hard to figure out what works best, or could work. After the past few days of jamming games and flip flopping things in and out, here's where i'm at..
So when I started, the deck originally had 19 lands, and a full 8 mana dorks. I'm still not sure if im heading in the right direction, but i've slowly moved up to the 22 lands everyone else is on, but dropped down to just 4 dorks. The dorks are great when theyre good, but late are just a brick, and eat deck slots. With the less lands I had, getting a dork killed could screw up your mana, and with the higher land count its hard to fit them in. I really am torn on this decision but i'm gonna keep testing the 4.
Blade Splicer so far has been pretty good. Presents a decent clock, and you can make a lil gang of Golems relatively easily. The tokens synergize with Voice pretty well too. I had a Kiki to Evo them into but Kiki was just so clunky, and hard to cast, so I eventually took it out. So now im not running a 5 drop at all to Evo into. Reveillark is a decnt option but I just don't know. Too many high cost cards really starts to bog things down, and it's a major worry of mine. Any advice on whether I should utilize a 5 drop slot, and what would be the best option?
Reflector Mage is a friggin beast. Pretty sure you guys wanna be playing this guy. I might even wanna play more tbh. He just freezes the opponents offense when we can blink him so easily. Obviously better against bigger decks rather than wider decks, but can be very very good. I'm super happy with this guy in the deck.
Sun Titan can actually combo with Saheeli also so it feels worth while to play, even aside from the insane value house he is. So with either 2 Saheeli in the grave, or 1 Saheeli in play, and 1 in the grave, resolving a Titan will then give you infinite Titans. Titan brings back Saheeli, which makes another Titan, to bring back the other Saheeli, binning the first. Makes another Titan. Brings back Saheeli. and on and on.
I ran this list through a series of games today, and kept track of my results. I squared off against a gauntlet of random decks.. but yeah, here's how I did:
Grixis Control - 2/1 Cast Titan into combo. - Natural Saheeli combo.
Abzan Coco - 2/0 Evo into Cat for Anafenza combo. - Natural Saheeli combo.
Tezzerator - 0/2 Pithing Needle on Saheeli, and Ensnaring Bridge both games.
UR Kuldotha - 1/2 Mana flooded and token beatdown. - Natural Saheeli combo. - 3 Crack the Earth and not drawing more lands is GG.
Grixis Jar Reanimator - 2/0 Evo into Cat then Saheeli nxt turn for combo. - Teeg + Elemental + P&K beatdown.
GR Ponza - 2/0 Natural Saheeli. - Evo into Cat with Saheeli combo.
Some pretty good results. But not against the best decks.. I didn't take great notes, but I was curious to keep track of the method of victory or defeat. Losing to the Kuldotha brew doesn't really bother me because i'll never run into that deck any time soon, but losing to Tezz was annoying. Even in g2, he overcame Rec Sag, and Kataki. Luckily that deck isn't popular either, but a frustrating loss none the less. I need more testing against better decks..
-What do you think about Hero of Bladehold as a 4 drop Evo target?
Casting Evo on Voice, threatens at least 12 power on board the following turn. I feel like in some of the games i've played having the option to just alpha beatdown against someone who is stumbling or open would have been great. You can grab Rallier, or P&K, but Hero is a straight 2 turn clock, and threatens much more offense.
-Opinion on Caldera Hellion?
Seems pretty friggin good tbh, but i'm kinda hesitant. An interesting one.
-Are you guys really sold on all those Restos in your MD?
Seems a bit clunky, or is it really just value city?
Why is Lotus Cobra used in this deck ? To have a "mana dork" that can attack ? If so why not Rattleclaw Mystic (or Sylvan Caryatid if attacking isn't a concern) ?
With 7x other mana dorks it seems not necessary.

Anafenza adds a secondary combo of Felidar + Felidar/Resto + Anafenza = infinite bolster triggers. Additionally all 3 Pieces are tutorable off Chord/Evolution or whatever you're testing.

Cobra helps combo early and on less land. Can combo turn 3 with Cobra and get evening moving earlier. Fetch land gets you+2 any color to make sure. Then you can bounce your land with felidar on the initial summon for one more land. It probably needs more testing but that's 3 free floating land on one turn
It also isn't an infinite combo in the Spirits deck...
I agree that the card itself is relatively lackluster but the text box isn't terrible. Still convinced Kiki-Jiki is just the better option if you're looking for a secondary combo tutorable via Chord/Evo.
Were there any standout card choices that you remember? You said he is more combo centric..what exactly does that entail? Any lotus cobras? Getting the 5-0 list, or at least a close approximation of it, seems like it would be a pretty big boost for progressing this deck.

Nothing super special. He changed a few slots from a list I sent him a few weeks ago. This is the list he 5-0ed with. http://i.imgur.com/6JbIiT4.jpg
But since then he has changed slots and he's gonna try the version with unified will.
Thanks for the list! Do you happen to know what his matchups were when he 5-0ed?
I've been experimenting a bit this week, and wanted to share my latest version that I just played at an FNM. Went 4-0, against GR Ponza, Bant Eldrazi, Jeskai control and GB midrange. Not the most competitive environment of course, but the deck felt strong and I will definitely try this build at a competitive event next week.
I didn't play this version enough yet to draw any hard conclusions, but my conclusions until now are:
- Squadron hawk is good evolution fodder, and combining it with mistveil plains for endless recursion and two gavony townships fit the rest of the deck very well. I prefer Squadron Hawk over Wall of Omens, which I find too defensive in a lot of matchups. And especially against affinity or infect, hawk plays even the defensive role better. I liked Squadron Hawk enough to keep playing this a bit more before giving my final judgement on it, but I'm leaning towards the misveil plains being too cute.
- 3 Worship in the board fixes a lot of our tougher matchups convincingly. We have a ton of creatures and evolving into Sigarda while having a Worship is very hard to beat. This felt so powerful that worship will definitely stay in my board for a while.
I haven't tried any builds with Lotus Cobra yet. I can see that it enables some fast combos, but it is also often a lousy topdeck. What's the verdict from those of you that played Cobra? Is the upside worth the downside?
Ive been testing for a bit with saheeli and ive tried chord, ive tried evolution and honestly both feel really clunky. I dropped both in favor of adding nahiri as another planeswalker. I keep the evolution in SB because lets face it oops i win scenarios are great plus it works for silver bullets. anyway this is what ive been running.
Regarding Satyr Wayfinder: right now the deck utilizes the grave for some value but doesn't depend on it. In my experience, Wayfinder is only good if you're fully invested in the graveyard and are running 8+ sources of recursion -- think Aristocrats or some other reanimator build. Otherwise 1G for a 1/1 that draws a land does a mediocre job of supporting your beatdown or value plans and I don't think you want to invest in the graveyard enough to make Wayfinder good as you open yourself to more hate. Dodging GY hate is one of the more attractive qualities that separates this deck from Melira combo, and as you pointed out you'd be slowing the deck down a lot, too.
it feels clunky because half the time you have evolution in hand without a decent creature to sac up to. Alot of times evolution just kinda ended up 2 for 1 ing me. I understand scenarios where evolution is good thats why its still SB but overall nahiri is a flexible card. between scrying, looting, and blinking wall, ya end up getting the combo anyway. wall of roots is just a big body which is always welcome for def walkers. just my experience though

My Decks that have been BANNED
DRS Jund | Kiki-Pod | Bloom Titan | Splinter Twin | KCI
Kiki is amazing! No way I'd play without it! Keranos I didn't get to hit the field sadly but just seems like gas. Kitchen finks (don't see many running) is amazing imo.
I have to say that the last 3 of the sideboard weren't part of yesterday's sideboard deck, but it's better than I got before.
I made a 3-2, one of those lost because I had no luck in drawing cards. Lost against a boros burn home-made deck, because I got 1 hallowed fountain, 3 forests and 1 plains, with a Blood Moon and an Ajani Vengeant that always tapped my Plains in game, so I barely couldn't cast anything, birds were always bolted.
But I have to say it, I comboed at turn 4, I could win with the Golem tokens from Blade Splicer, and the Gavony Township helped too. As I said early in this topic, I wasn't very sure about the deck, but you conviced me with the cards and your opinion about it, and it's really fun deck to me!
I've been running this list and having a moderate 65% winrate on MTGO over 60 matches in the Competitive Leagues. Got unlucky in two 4-0's that could be 5-0s but the list feels really good. I'm still not prepared to abandon the Lotus Cobras since they help in so many matchups where we need to unload our hand fast. I'm also convinced that running one Sun Titan is correct. He is simply so powerful. He has won me games where I wouldn't win otherwise with any other card.
My mulligan rate is quite low (13%, counting games not matches) which I think is one of the strenghts of this deck compared to say Kiki Chord. The deck is very consistent as it is.
Seems good! I haven't messed with the deck in a little over a week. I've always been hesitant to run Cobras. Are they really that good?
Also, have you been keeping track of your games in a spreadsheet? Things like the opponent's deck, how you sideboard, etc. Think that would be interesting, so we could see how the matchups are against different decks. Definitely digging this so far. Keep up the good work.
Angel of Sanctions looks very interesting as a Evolution target. It allows us to answer resolved problem permanents easily. The Embalm ability pushes it over thr top, will definitely try this card.
This definitely seems like a pretty good sideboard card. Gives us a way to get rid of problem permanents, as well as flying (often unblockable) beats. Like you said, embalm really pushes this over the top. Could definitely see this as a bullet out of the sideboard.
I also really like Dusk as a sideboard card against our more difficult matchups Eldrazi and Death's Shadow. It misses almost all of our own creatures while sweeping the other side of the board. Can't wait to try that out.

A few questions for you guys.
-What do you think is the best option?
Windborn Muse, Archangel of Tithes, or Magus of the Moat.
-What do you think about Hero of Bladehold as a 4 drop Evo target?
Casting Evo on Voice, threatens at least 12 power on board the following turn. I feel like in some of the games i've played having the option to just alpha beatdown against someone who is stumbling or open would have been great. With 7x other mana dorks it seems not necessary.
Anafenza also doesn't seem very good here.
I'd rather add some more Wall of Omens or "bullets" like Scavenging Ooze and Qasali Pridemage which are good on their own.
I agree that the card itself is relatively lackluster but the text box isn't terrible. Still convinced Kiki-Jiki is just the better option if you're looking for a secondary combo tutorable via Chord/Evo.

How did the kiki-jiki and keranos work for you?
Kiki is amazing! No way I'd play without it! Keranos I didn't get to hit the field sadly but just seems like gas. Kitchen finks (don't see many running) is amazing imo.
The list I went with is a bit out of shape, I don't got all the cards for the moment, so I got some lend from friends.
4 Birds of paradise
4 Felidar Guardian
3 Restoraion Angel
3 Blade Splicer
2 Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit
2 Qasali Pridemage
2 Voice of Resurgerance
2 Wall of Omens
1 Eternal Witness
1 Selfless Spirit
4 Saheeli Rai
4 Oath of Nissa
3 Path to Exile
2 Eldritch Evolution
3 Leyline of Sanctity
1 Eidolon of Rhetoric
2 Kor Firewalker
2 Kataki, War's Wage
2 Ghostly Prison
2 Geist of Saint Traft
2 Rest in Peace
1 Eidolon of Labyrinth
This definitely seems like a pretty good sideboard card. Gives us a way to get rid of problem permanents, as well as flying (often unblockable) beats. Like you said, embalm really pushes this over the top. Could definitely see this as a bullet out of the sideboard.
