Pulled together a nice string of 4-1's recently in Friendly League Play which has affirmed my confidence in the power of the WW version of this deck (moved on from the red splash that led to mana inconsistencies, getting pwned by Blood Moon, and starting with less life due to Sacred Foundries and Battlefield Forges). However, still losing to the usual suspects - my all-time record vs the following:
That said, I am still pleased with how this deck performs otherwise in an open field and the current configuration here. I like the sideboard additions of Settle the Wreckage, Ratchet Bomb, and Disenchant to combat the weak match-ups.
Just dropping in to say hello. I love the look of this deck, and I've been on Colorless Eldrazi Stompy for a little bit now. I've always wanted to play the Leonin Arbiter / Ghost Quarter combo, and so I'm keeping an eye on this thread. Carry on.

I don't know that is changes much for us. BGx wasn't a great match to begin with, but it's also not a deck where Chalice is that good except on the play and if they swap some of this in for removal, getting a land seems pretty good since they were going to kill our creatures anyway. It makes baby Karn less good as a sideboard option, but that is about it.

Now I know the deck is tad bit slow but I designed it in such a way that it has more hate than usual. It shuts down Humans because of Tocatli Honor Guard and most decks don't MB removal, leaving them with Mantis Rider and Noble Hierarch combo, which a Path to Exile can solve.
Control slows down because of Thalia, Guardian of Thraben and Thalia, Heretic Cathar. Sweeps get get shut off because Doomed Traveler leaves a body and Matter Reshaper can cheat cards from the deck, and into the battlefield. Since I'm running a deck that only has 3cmc as a top, every permanent I have can be cheated in. The only drawback is Terminus which I am still finding out how to get around it.
For BGx, Hollow One and Bridgevine, Paladin en-Vec and Mirran Crusader are your key cards, including Doomed Traveler, Thalia and Matter Reshaper. The "protection from black" helps hold down Gurmag Angler and Tasigur, and holds down the removal. Game 1 can be grindy but there's less pressure after sideboarding in Rest in Peace and Shalai. Since I am running a mono W list, there's less pressure from Assassin's Trophy because we can get all the Plains we need. There have been a few problems when Leonin Arbiter is on the board because of the tax, then again, if I can't get a land, the opponent can't get a land.
Affinity is where the problem lies, out of all the playtesting with Original Affinity and Hardened Scales Affinity, it's almost an auto Game 1 loss. SB-ing in Stony Silence and Disenchant help out. To a certain extent Settle the Wreckage and Worship also helps as a panic button.
Does Knight of Autumn make us want to reconsider WG? I love this card, but the mana is dodgy, obviously. But then I think, Knight + Displacer... Wow, I wish Elvish Spirit Guide was Modern-legal. Is Noble Hierarch just a nonbo here? I mean, I know the busted Turn 1 plays won't happen as often, but the busted turn 2 plays would and we would keep the mana instead of having it destroyed. Probably not enough G mana to do it with only 9 sources.
@SpiderSpace, you still haunting these halls? If so, congrats on the Modern Challenge Top 4. Death and Staxes feels like a great meta call when GDS and Izzet Phoenix are two of the biggest decks.
I am trying out the Eldrazis and Taxes list for the first time. I'm enjoying the vial-less build. I am part of a Discord server dedicated to all flavors of Eldrazis. We have over 100 people discussing and reporting back on their Eldrazi builds and tournament results. Just in case anyone is interested, here is the Discord link:
Chalice is mostly 4 or 0, with some exceptions (sometimes keep 2 against decks on the draw where it is still good, but possibly too slow on the draw.)
- If the deck you are playing against relies on a lot of 0-1-2 mana spells, Chalice is a 4-of.
- I frequently take it out e.g. against Humans, Spirits, Merfolk, etc, where it is obviously bad.
- On the play vs. on the draw matters. On the play versus Amulet Titan, 4-of. On the draw, 0-2.
Lots of sideboarding advice in the thread. Useful discussion of playing against midrange on p. 11.
Mulligan, in the blind game 1, if you don't have aggression or a lock piece, with enough mana to play out the first two turns at least. You need one or both of those. Acceleration is also important. If your hand is 2 lands, SSG, Thalia, Chalice and anything else, keep it. Same for Temple, land, SSG, TKS and anything else. Hand with no Chalice, no turn 1-2 Thalia, no turn 2 Eldrazi is pretty much always a mulligan, unless it is something stupid like turn 3 smasher into turn 4 smasher because you have 3 Temple, 2 Smasher, but that again is acceleration and aggression.
Post-board mulligan depends on knowing the opposing deck.

I'm having some troubles with the manabase, I don't know if more people have it.
But sometimes it's really painful and what's the right number on having white sources?
And what I meant on Chalice of the Void was VS what matches are the best counters on it.
It's almost one or two but vs some matches you want some other numbers.
My build for this meta. This deck seems extremely well-positioned.
Sideboard of course always in flux:
COP: Red feels very powerful at this exact moment. How does Burn beat us? Also, this + RiP + Settle should put an end to Izzet Phoenix.
Tocatli Honor Guard is still great: Amulet Titan, Vannifar Pod, Spirits, Humans, UWx Control.
RiP against so many decks!
Stony: Hardened Scales, Tron, just a requirement.
Warping Wail: Scapeshift, UR Storm, Dredge, UW Control, even Burn if you want that many spells for stopping sorceries.
Worship: All kinds of decks. Great 1-of.
Settle: All the swarming creature decks.
The biggest problem for the deck is Worship and Ensnaring Bridge.
That's why i play Cast out. It's flexible but it costs 4 CMC.
I saw a list that plays revoke existence. It's sorcery speed but it exiles wich makes welding jar bad for example. THOUGHTS??
decklist below is a Death and Taxes list and not a Thalia Stompy/Death n Staxes but it's an idea for artifact and enchanment removal.
I don't expect more than "i do that +X -Y in that mu". I don't ask any justification, list, sb guide or whatever, just if you disagree say it and what do you do instead. If it's too much for what i write, i hope people will be happy to find a starting sb guide somewhere. And you are not an ass, it's a totally fair request.
yriel, this will help us next time, just list the cards all in a column, highlight the list and click the Deck icon. Can you put +x number in, -x number out for your SB listing? That would also be helpful, as I would not assume you mean +all, -all in each case.
When i don't put number that mean i board in/out all copy of this card. I will try to update that after more games.
I know all about that, i not have the time when i wrote it !
Grixis Death Shadow :
+ 1 declaration in stone, 1 rest in peace, 1 kitchen finks, 1 ratchet bomb, 1 cast out
- 4 leonin arbiter, 2 warping wail (these cards are not really bad for sure but there are too much situationnals and death shadow can easily turn around them with discard if you don't success to play it before discard)
BGX : (here i am pretty sure because BGX is my first deck choice right now and i played it a lot in the past)
+ 1 declaration in stone, 1 rest in peace, 1 kitchen finks, 1 ratchet bomb, 1 cast out
- 4 calice 1 arbiter (against Jund) ; -4 arbiter -1 chalice (against rock)
Storm :
+ 2 rest in peace, 1 aven mindcensor, 1 ratchet bomb, 1 declaration in stone
- 4 eldrazi displacer, 1 reality smasher (no sure at all about smasher, it's fine sure but i think we need more disrupt than clock)
Bant Spirits: 1-5
Elves: 2-9
Humans: 3-12
Hardened Scales: 2-4

Spirits and Elves can get grindy but if they don't answer Tocatli Honor Guard, then Settle the Wreckage can't be countered by Spell Queller or you only need to pay a tax of 1cmc from Mausoleum Wanderer. Pithing Needle is key against Elves because you can shut down Ezuri, Renegade Leader and with Tocatli Honor Guard, it won't be destroyed by Reclamation Sage or the new Knight of Autumn
Control slows down because of Thalia, Guardian of Thraben and Thalia, Heretic Cathar. I just picked up this deck. Reason is i like Eldrazi and Taxes decks.
Played different decks last few years.
Does anyone have sort of guide for mulligan, sideboarding and numbers on chalice of the void vs different decks.
Testing the deck for an upcomming event and i think Death and Staxes is pretty good underdog at the moment.
Thanks in Advance.
