I'm not sure I understand the need to go GW. Gaddock teeg seems like an interesting SB option. I guess you bring it in vs coco decks and control? Qasali helps vs affinity. You also get to run more horizon canopy which is great, but I"m not sure it's worth it. You're still weak to creature decks and even if qasali does help vs affinity, it doesn't seem to do nearly as much as anger of the gods. Also, casting simian spirit guides can really matter. It seems like simian pushes us towards splashing R while canopy pushes us towards G.
If I would play the green splash I would play 1 dromokas command and 2 new crucible over Reshaper Main and play two Qasali in the Side as a start and then see how it plays out.
I have never tried the fourth Gemstone in the board but it is definitely interesting. Not sure it's worth the slot though.
@SpiderSpace
I don't think there is a need to splash green. But it's worth a consideration IMO. Especially if the mana works out. Dromokas Command, Qasali, Gaddock, new Crucible and maybe Scooze are all good cards which also offer additional utility and angles of attack. For example new crucible could intensify the "staxes" part of the deck which I think is at least interesting.
You are definitely right though that it is not aimed against the bad MUs like the red splash is.
Back from Spain tonight. Haven't seen anything in two weeks. Still tinkering with gw. I think Pridemage in the side is right. Stabil0/bmchu, list ideas? I love Commander but actually miss Reshaper.
Definitely want Crucible creature in the side.

I think RW is really well-positioned right now. I'm still surprised how under the radar (maybe that's a great thing) this deck is - my last 7 leagues have been just killing it(1 5-0, 4 4-1's, and 2 3-2's) against a wide variety of decks (finally seeing some Death's Shadow wins as well as Merfolk and Death & Taxes). I guess our little gang here will have to keep it that way, but really feel like it's well-positioned against a wide variety of decks especially with our strong Anger of the Gods tech.
I'm going to run Wg tonight again, hopefully get some pre-event grinding in too. Wg is actually quite good against several of the bad match-ups because Gaddock Teeg stops Chord and CoCo and Wrath and EE, while Dromoka's Command allows us to do combat tricks that are very hard to cope with and counter burn (including Anger of the Gods!), Pridemage is a solid addition in many deck, and Ramunap Excavator should be even better against Scapeshift and Tron.
By loose, I meant that the format is quite wide open with a large number of competitive decks from week to week and no deck has managed to dominate, even DS and CoCo decks.
Beat Grixis Death Shadow, Affinity, Free Cast Enchantment-thingie deck. Lost to Eldrazi Tron on the draw, where he natural Trons into Karn. I think I beat any other hand.
Wg build felt strong. I liked Matter Reshaper being back in and Qasali as a 1-of.

That's great! Encouraging to hear. I have all the cards for your WG list with the exception of a 2nd Gaddock Teeg. Sounds like both WG and RW are both strong. Overall, this deck seems to be in great position recently...I've gone on a crazy 40 - 10 clip recently with RW so not looking to move away from that anytime soon, but will definitely take WG for a spin soon.
I think my keep against Eldrazi Tron game 3 was soft, despite seeming good. Gemstone, Brushland, Brushland, Plains, Stony, Reshaper, Displacer.
Pre-Game
I put in Gemstone Cavern and exile Brushland.
Turn 1
He plays Mine, I play Plains and Stony (drew Dromoka's Command)
Turn 2
He plays Tower, I play Brushland and Reshaper (drew GQ)
turn 3
He topdecks Power Plant, plays it and Karn and exiles my Reshaper. I draw Smasher, but am 1 mana short and play land, Displacer.
Turn 4
He plays a land, pluses Karn and plays his own Reshaper. I draw land one turn late. I play it and Smasher, and swing with both creatures. He uses dismember on Smasher and trades with Displacer with Karn at 7. I have no creatures and nothing in my hand. I don't think i can even manage to win with top deck Smasher, so I concede.
Thoughts?
Whenever I lose on 7 in hand that way, I think I should have mulliganed.
@redtwister
Your hand in g3 seems good to me. Would definitely have kept it as well. If your opponent has natural tron on t3 without the need for map and has Karn as well then there is just not too much that can be done. You could have potentially GQ on your second turn. If your opponent keeps his 7 and plays no spells in the first two turns and no Eldrazi Temple then this increases the likelihood that he has natural Tron with payoff and therefore kept this hand. But Karn is really the most scary and only a two off so not really worth playing around by giving up your second turn.
I probably wouldn't have traded Displacer for Reshaper. Probably just not attacked with it to try and get some blink action going.
But the hand is certainly a keep - sometimes Eldrazi Tron can just outclass other decks with the perfect draw.
I'm on vacation as well the next couple of weeks so there won't be coming much from my side. Keep it up guys and gl!
Agree with stabilo. You had no idea he would natural Tron so best you could do is play the ghost quarter on turn 2 instead of brushland as a means for him to maybe exile the ghost quarter instead but that's just hindsight strategy. I don't think there was anything you could have done differently.
Currently I run 2 Matter Reshaper/1 Qasali Pridemage, but what about 2 Ramunap Excavator and 1 Qasali Pridemage? Riskier mana, less often playable on turn 1/2 and it doesn't replace itself, which Reshaper does with more reliability than one might expect, but it is a 2/3 GQ your opponent into oblivion. We probably don't have enough land destruction to make that a likely enough combination, even with 2 main. Probably would be better with 4 main and a couple of Tectonic Edge.
I would say Ramunap makes a lot of sense if you have the full land destruction suite of 4 Ghost Quarters, 2-3 Tectonic Edges, 4 Arbiters and Mindcensor. I don't think the mana base can support that. Unless you ditch the 2 colored mana cards and just fill with all G or W cards (Aven Mindcensors, Ramunap, etc)
I am off of Wg. After several weeks of testing, it just isn't as consistent and powerful as Wr. Here are some issues I found.
1. Having to cast any WG spells was oppressively difficult.
2. Horizon Canopy was literally killing me.
3. Dromoka's Command was either amazing or terrible, but mostly terrible.
4. I haven't been facing enough CoCo-Chord to justify the somewhat limited usability of Gaddock Teeg.
5. Needing WG main messed up the manabase much more, making it impossible to run Cavern of Souls, and counter magic is on a bit of an uptick with a UWR Control deck that is running around.
6. The nonbo of of WG and SSG made itself felt a few times, which was a few times too many.
I'm sorry to hear Wg didn't feel like it worked out.
One thing I'm curious about (splash regardless) is why many of us only run 3 Thalia, guardian of thraben. I understand we don't have much cycling effects so drawing multiples could feel bad, but the card is amazing right now and can lead to many of our more unfair games (t1 thalia anyone?).
Additionally, I've been looking for ways to fix that draw problem since running canopy is hard in WR and we run a lot of dead draws. I feel like matter reshaper might just be our best bet with copter as a close second. Every time I try to run something else, I struggle to find room and end up cutting reshapers for the new card in question and it always feels less consistent. I've tried chandra, torch of defiance and hazoret the fervent both of which were nice options, but costing more mana than reshaper mattered. Reshaper costs us 2-3 (temple dependent)and doesn't need R which makes it more consistent, relevant more quickly, and easier cast. As a said, the only other card that seems a suitable replacement to me at this point is smuggler's copter, yet I still feel like there's a hole to fill there. Anyone else have any thoughts there?
4 Thalia's can be good depending on the meta. I used to run 4 Thalia GoT and only 1 Thalia Heretic Cathar. You could conceivably replace a 4th Thalia over the 4th Displacer as well (if you look at the Legacy and Vintage versions of the deck sometimes they seem OK with only 3 Displacers).
After running some Smuggler's Copters, I think Matter Reshaper is where you want to stay at. The strength of this deck is how we can barf it out relatively quickly with some great disruption and solid sized creatures and do a lot in the early game. Smuggler's takes a turn to set up, requires another creature to pilot it...I don't know, I prefer to focus on closing the game out as quickly as possible. I've kind of resigned myself that our late game is basically praying for awesome top-decks. Haha Hazoret could be interesting to try as a 1 of. Seems easy enough to cast.
This is my exact current list. Went 3-0-1 (Mardu something, Grixis DS x2, draw into prize) last night and have been doing very well in grinding matches with friends. However, it all depends on what I play. I eat Death's Shadow decks, but Eldrazi Tron is complicated and very dependent on mana denial. Cast Out main has been fantastic. Nahiri is great. Haven't played a CoCo deck in quite a while.
Are we all still playing the deck? I have not been happy with Thalia, Heretic Cathar and Leonin Arbiter. THC or Mary Jane, as I like to call her, has been underwhelming in the current environment. I am thinking of a desperation move and trying Mirran Crusader and Aven Mindcensor.
I know WW is not great, but the card itself is devastating right now as a blocker and an attacker.
Aven is coming to mind because I feel like Arbiter is just too open to all the large amounts of removal being played out in a main phase, whereas Ambush Bird is much stronger, being both a flyer and able to be played out in response to the opponent. Also, I like that it is one-sided and can't be gotten around by leaving open mana. I think it is better against Chord, though a little less good against fetches.
I am aware this ups the casting cost overall, but Arbiter was rarely what I wanted to play turn 1 or 2 anyway. The rare game where I had turn 2 GQ with Arbiter out i too infrequent for the otherwise very sad panda (aka sad bear) aspects of the card.
I left a THC in because I don't know that 4 Mindcensor would be right. Maybe a Vryn Wingmare or something else?
Of course, it could just be my crappy local meta skewing my view.
Hey guys
It's been a while since I last posted here. Long vacation and not much time for Magic afterwards. Now I'm mostly playing a bunch of different decks and trying stuff out, but again - don't have too much time.
Thanks for trying the green splash Redtwister! I can certainly see it not working out. Good points you listed.
@SpiderSpace
I have never been a fan of 4 Thalia personally (neither here nor in DnT). The downside of drawing multiples doesn't weigh out the advantages for me.
@Redtwister
Honestly I think that if Arbiter isn't strong enough anymore than the whole deck isn't. I think the low cmc from Arbiter is crucial. Mindcensor is just too expensive. The curve of the deck becomes unbearable with only Thalia/Chalice as two drops and no one drops.
I think it is important to really watch out for the curve. We should max out on two drops. That's also why I'm not a fan of non Eldrazi 4 drops in general (in this deck).
I think I would play the mono white version atm. It is possible to splash Anger if the meta is really weak to it but in the current meta it seems better to me to play mono white. It is more consistent and has access to more utility lands. CoCo decks aren't played too much atm and neither is Dredge.
Mono white allows for some Cavern and Canopies which seem both important now. And the manabase is less painful.
@Stabil0
Welcome back. I could see going back to WW at the moment. I just have had a lot of issues with Jeskai Control adding to the decks that seem to always have turn 1 removal. I found the deck increasingly erratic. I may go back to it, for now I am on Bant Spirits (went 4-0 last night at a 24 person tournament.) Alas, I do miss the sheer hatefulness of this deck. i don't seem to cause nearly as much table flipping with Spirits.
Would love to hear how it goes with WW and I'll post if I play.

After a recent incredible 40-10 stretch leading up to July 4th, my last 10 Leagues have been the following:
3-2: 2
2-3: 7
1-4: 1
Incredibly, this all coincided with the new round of Leagues that opened up after July 4th.
Any tips or new tech or new insights from everyone?

@SpiderSpace
I have never been a fan of 4 Thalia personally (neither here nor in DnT). The downside of drawing multiples doesn't weigh out the advantages for me.
@Redtwister
