Going for a Budget, pure GB variant to follow the old rock builds back in the day. I will be upgrading with less budget cards as do better and better with this deck. Hopefully with store credit/winnings
*Getting upgrades as I can. Next on my list are Gofys, but that might be awhile.
I will more than likely drop the disfigure for Fatal Push when it is released. I would run more but since I do not have any fetchlands yet, they will not be as good. Still better than Disfigure though.
Any other suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks.
I love the rock. Really really love it. I played it from invasion and into extended.
You will be glad to hear rock stil exists and is very good. It exists a both a black green, and with a splash for red and a splash for white. The red version is called jund, the white version is called abzan.
Now the negative: These decks are the most exspensive in modern. The mana base has off-coloured fetches. The worst thing though is the dependency of liliana of the veil and tharmogoyf. These are the most exspensive cards in modern.
Unlike old extended we also do not have vampiric tutor (thank god that is not in the modern format) pernesius deed is gone, and there are no good replacements. A broken card like reacurring nightmare is nowhere to be found in modern.
A jund version of the deck that came in 24th place in the same tornament. The red splash is mostly for lightning bolts and koligan's command: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/506254#paper
Thanks for your reply. I did a little more digging after making this post, and dug up the old "Budget" junk thread. Which I guess died since all the "budget" cards... aren't budge now lol. So, I kind of took it and made it into delver/rock variant.
I stuck with just GB since It is a budget build and the splashes require fetchlands and/or dual lands. Though, once I get some more cash I will splash white for Siege Rhino and probably PTE (since I currrently have no way to deal with big indestructible dudes.)
Here's what I just recently ordered and will be playing with and tweaking till its better, any suggestions are welcome but I haven't tested it yet.
4x Scavenging Ooze
4x Wasteland Strangler
4x Hooting Mandrills
3x Gurmag Angler
2x Tasigur, the Golden Fang
Here is a link to Mtggoldfish guide to building budget mana bases in modern. Safron is budget friendly, so give the video a chance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ncSskJgqzI
Did you see at my sugested red black eldrazi? Thought-Knot Seer is the perfect rock card. It is big, meaning he can attack for a lot, only trades with several smaller cards (green card advantage) and he discards your oponent hand. The bread an butter of Rock's interaction vs combo decks. Try to see if you can pick up some Eldrazi Temple or 'of coloured llanowar wastes if you can.
Running 4 wasteland strangler is a bit much, you only have 4 cards that exile. I would runn Relic of Progenitus or the budget options Scrabbling Claws or Nihil Spellbomb as these synergieses with your delve creatures. This screws some decks in modern, they can be cycled and it justefies not playing Tharmogoyf. I would stil only play 3 wasteland strangler.
Dismember, Abrupt Decay and Maelstrom Pulse are very good.
Considder Courser of Kruphix, or Tireless Tracker. Good once you trade in your discard and removal, it lets you come back into the game on card advantage.
I kind of want to keep it GB for the moment but maybe splash white later for PTE and Rhino. Can't think of much R can add to the deck besides spot burn and more aggression, which isn't what I need.
Thought-Knot Seer is a nice card. I might have to pick up some of those. They work well with Strangler too. But at 6 bucks a pop might be out of my range atm. I will come back to those later though for sure. Very "rock" themed type of card and I like it
I honestly didn't think about not having enough Exile targets for Strangler, but that makes sense now. I'll drop him down or even all together. At least until I can get some Thought-Knots or more exile cards. I honestly dunno where I would fit in room for random artifacts with no direct purpose for the deck. Hecks, I want more room for more spells to be honest
I was thinking of adding Courser in, honestly, just thought I need some more beef so I added in a few more delve cards instead. I will change my list and add him in - he seems really strong.
Kitchen Finks was actually in my first main build, but he is a bit expensive (money wise) at the moment. You think Ooze + Courser(if I add them in) will be enough life gain?
I really like Strangleroot Geist. I will have to find a way to squeeze them in. I picked Read the Bones over Night's Whisper because it seemed better. Think I should run both? or Maybe, 2 and 2?
I am only running City of Brass to help my mana base. I would run fetchs/duals if I had the dough. Though I like Ghost Quarter, i'm assuming theres a lot of nasty lands I should worry about in mondern?
How's this look for a SB? Haven't played at my local store yet, so I don't know my meta. Just what my bro-in law and my GF plays (WW and Tooth)
4x Feed the Clan
3x Fade into Antiquity
3x Lost Legacy
3x Transgress the mind

Your changes looks really good. Ghost Quarters has some usage, but vs Tron is where they really shine. If you meta is WW tooth and nail I will say you have a fair chance.
Playing the sugested graveyard hate is very good in modern. Tarogoyf, Snapcaster Mage, Graveyard strategies and opposing delve cards all use the graveyard. And also all of these artifacts can be cycled to draw a card very cheaply, so in reallaty you are playing more like a 56 card deck.
If you do not mind evolwing wild might be a good card for your deck if you play Courser of Khrupix. Then you can sac it to change the card that is on top of your libary. I think your deck is looking better and better.
If I where to do a modern breakdown of the worst competetive deck to meet I would group them like this:
Weenie combo decks: Infect and Death shadow zoo. Makes a big threat and gives it double strike - dies to enough creature destruction, so your deck is good against them.
Gravyard based decks: Dredge, and grisselbrand reanimator. Dredge sees a lot of play. - Both of these decks can only be fought with gravyard hate. 4 of the cantrip graveyard hate.
Burn decks: Burn and Zoo. Tries to kill your life while ignoring the rest of your deck. - Lifegain is very good vs these as they can not rase your.
Combo decks that suddenly 'go off'. - duress discard effects are really good here. Your deck is strong vs these.
Big mana spells. Tooth and nail and urzatron. - these decks are hard for rock decks. But ghost quarter and discard spells help.

I have dyslexia, no I am not going to spell check for you, yes you have to live with the horrors of it.
You think I should run the GY hate mb or sb? If MB, what can I cut? I don't like Relic because it nukes my gy too. Claws seems like the best on a budget. Is there anything better? Hitting one card a turn doesn't seem that effective.

Strangleroot Geist is an aggro card, it doesn't belong in a midrange deck imho.
Another "undying" creature which can be a better fit is Geralf's Messenger but i requires good mana-fixing to hit BBB reliably.
Some good budget options for a B/G midrange deck can be: Tireless Tracker - grows bigger and helps draw cards. Catacomb Sifter - 2 bodies for 1 card, can ramp, scry and a good value creature. Eternal Scourge - hard to kill creature, combines well with Scavenging Ooze if it hits the GY. Eternal Witness - get back cards from the GY. Sylvan Advocate - a decent beater that gets better in the mid/late-game when you reach 6 lands. Reaper of the Wilds - solid creature, scry's and can gain hexproof or deathtouch. Chameleon Colossus - pro-Black and can get bigger. Obstinate Baloth - decent body, cannot be discarded and gains life. Thragtusk - great value overall. Grave Titan - a good finisher option, probably requires some ramp (Birds of Paradise/Deathcap Cultivator) to be cast reliably. Bloodgift Demon - 5-power in the air is a fast clock and it draws you cards. Distended Mindbender - can be "emerged" of a value 3/4-drop and take up to 2 cards from the opponent.
After doing some testing with my very first version of the deck - I have made some changes and ordered some more cards. Got a pretty good deal on some Thoughtseize and also got another maelstrom pulse. I still consider it budget, since I can't afford Gofys, Vess, or Confidant. Here's the updated list:
4x Scavenging Ooze
4x Sylvan Advocate
3x Reaper of the Wilds
3x Eternal Scourge
3x Courser of Kruphix
2x Tasigur, the Golden Fang
1x Grave Titan
SB
3x Feed the Clan
3x Fade into Antiquity
3x Lost Legacy
3x Duress
3x Nihil Spellbomb
I really liked Read Bones since it can dig for potentially 4 deep, but it does suck that it cost 1 more mana then Last Whisper. I will playtest with Last Whisper and see how I like it.
If there's a lot of aggro in my meta, I will change Eternal Scourge to Catacomb Sifter. If not, then I will keep or try Eternal Witness. I'll have to see how I like the synergy with Scourge and Ooze. It seems good tho.
Pinging myself from my lands and life loss spells was a problem as well, so if Courser of Kruphix isn't enough lifegain comnbined with Ooze, I may end up running a couple of Thragtusk in place of Titan and 1 other card.
My SB is still up to change. Just need to see what my new meta is like.
I specifically put in Fade for Blightsteel or any indestructible artifacts since I have no way to deal with them currently. Pulse is pretty nice tho. Thanks.

Black offers some ways to deal with indestructible creatures like: Geth's Verdict, Tribute to Hunger, To the Slaughter or Gatekeeper of Malakir which can also be good against decks like: "Infect", "Death Shadow" and "Boggles" which can protect their creatures from removal.
My pal is playing it in his tooth and nail ramp deck. It's pretty much a otk with Xenagos, God of Revels So I would rather just play Fade to deal with a wider spectrum of stuff compared to running 2 different cards for 2 different scenarios.

You can consider this card Unravel the Æther. If he goes tooth and nail into xenagos and an emrakul you can instant speed make sure you do not get attacked by 30 trample damage. But at that point you are stil stuck with mr. emrakul.
Also works on wurmcoil engine. It is one mana less and instant speed.

Update to my current meta:
It seems like it consist of Latern control, Jund, infect, TaN, WW/kithkin and a couple of others that I did not see/play against.
Didn't do too hot my first time playing, but I really didn't know what to expect and had a few misplays (first time playing competitive modern). Lost to Jund and Infect, beat TaN.
Thinking of replacing unravel in the SB with some type of anti protection exile removal, like Oblivion Strike Since I already have mainboard artifact/enchantment hate - something to help against pro black/green stuff might be a better option.
I updated my current list in the OP. Any suggestions/tips would be appreciated!

Here are some links:
A rock deck that came in a very good place, 12th on GP Dallas. Mind you, pure BG are very rare but they are stil very good. https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/506242#paper
A jund version of the deck that came in 24th place in the same tornament. The red splash is mostly for lightning bolts and koligan's command: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/506254#paper
Abzan comes in a few other variants. Two midrange decks that have a infinet combo finish. Archangel of Tune combo: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/506268#paper
Combo abzan company: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/506264#paper
Non-combo abzan: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/506275#paper
But do not despair, there is an alternative that is relativly cheap. There is a deck that plays like jund (red rock) but changes the green part of the deck for eldrzi components. There is an article of the deck here: http://www.mtgmintcard.com/articles/writers/terry-soh/a-guide-to-black-red-eldrazi
Midrange grixis is also playing a bit like 'rock' when it rushes delve and plays koligan's command. http://www.mtgtop8.com/event?e=14089&d=283771&f=MO

Hangarback walker Night's Whisper and Strangleroot Geist are other good budget cheap 2 drop.
City of brass is a bit crap. Try to get some tretopp village. And maybe Ghost quarter
Consider Lost Legacy in your sideboard vs the unfair decks, as well as more gravyard hate and discard. Transgress the mind is budget.
Also if you push the 'reply' button instead of just posting the person your reply gets a promt that you have awnsered the thread.

In the SB you can put some Nihil Spellbomb.
As for creatures:
Without graveyard fillng spells like Grisly Salvage and Grapple with the Past I wouldn't run the "Delve" fatties except for a copy of Tasigur, the Golden Fang.
Strangleroot Geist is an aggro card, it doesn't belong in a midrange deck imho.
Another "undying" creature which can be a better fit is Geralf's Messenger but i requires good mana-fixing to hit BBB reliably.

Distended Mindbender - can be "emerged" of a value 3/4-drop and take up to 2 cards from the opponent.
Also, Planeswalkers like Nissa, Vital Force and Ob Nixilis Reignited can be good in this type of deck.
#I wouldn't run Duress in the mainboard as it is rather narrow (unlike Thoughtseize).
#Read the Bones also doesn't seem worth it, more efficient draw options can be Sign in Blood/Harmonize but I would rather use a PW for CA or a creature like Tireless Tracker/Eternal Witness.
#Oath of Nissa can be a good cantrip for digging/smoothing out draws.
Some budget dual-land options can be:
Woodland Cemetery, Llanowar Wastes and Blooming Marsh
(or lesser options like: Temple of Malady or Hissing Quagmire).
