i have to say, i tested and i like so much how Throne of the God-Pharaoh fit well in the build, tapping for Grand Architect now is mor fun, and when you recives a Cryptic Command and tap 5 creatures is not for free i like it
have you tested Walking Ballista? All time she make difference, be like remove many low creatures or when enter big mid end game with direct damage
I agree about Throne. It is so much fun and has stolen me a lot of games since I started incorporating it into the deck. I'm glad you are having similar results.
No, I have not tested Walking Ballista yet and that is only because I haven't bought them. I believe you 100% that it is really good in the deck and thinking it through, it should be a much better Molten-Tail Masticore. They each cost 8 mana to play/shoot the opponent for 4 damage and so it could finish off Death's Shadow decks just as well but Ballista is much more flexible than Masticore, you don't have to discard anything to it, and it is fetchable with Trinket Mage which I play in the sideboard. The only downside is that it is generally a smaller body and doesn't have the regenerate ability that turns Masticore into a wall. I really probably should pick up a playset of them.
Still in Throne HA!!
had a game, when opponent 6 life, and i have no creature, i guess was a ESPER CONTROL, then i drew Tezz, Turn trhone in creature, beat 5 then throne trigger and deal 1 left, so sweet

2 games for close, but game 2 seize then a Surgical Extraction Ended my hopes
i guess the bad luck in the tournament start disturbed the end .. but its happens, tomorrow i post my list
PS.: Variou you play MOL and paper ? how the cost to do ur deck in MOL, sometimes i want to play MOL to test mor the deck
So I am currently looking at playing Throne a bit more so look for reports on that. I apologize on a lack of Game reports I know i gave Various the short hand of my games and honestly have kinda forgotten pieces of it. I will be bringing my laptop with in the further to record directly after games/ after the event.
But moving forward, I wanted to help get a timeline out there for my plans for the thread:
June 1st: I hope to have all major matchups covered and sideboard cards covered.
June 30th: Have primer status for our thread.
I set the timeline out there as I just got selected as a Moderator and am moving into the busier season of EDH primer committee work so I am set the timelines out there so I can get it done while allowing from my busier schedule on here and to accommodate my GRE study time.

That timeline looks good to me. I just finished up my finals and am transitioning into summer so I will have significantly more free time and can focus on this deck a lot more. I'll send some of my own thoughts on matchups your way over the next few weeks.

Good work on the DS and Burn matchups! Those can be hard ones to navigate. As for Storm, obviously having lands is important, but keeping removal around for Goblin Electromancer or Baral, Chief of Compliance and then dropping a Lodestone Golem or two can shut them down pretty well. Grafdigger's Cage and Nihil Spellbomb hurt them a lot too. This is usually a race to our hate cards before they combo off.
8Rack is also a tough matchup. Early discard can totally rip our hands apart. I have found that you want to be careful not to keep a hand that is relying on a single engine piece (like one with a Heartless and double Myr). Always expect them to tear at least 2 cards out of your hand early. If this matchup is a common problem for you, Dodecapod is really good against Liliana of the Veil, Smallpox, and Raven's Crime.
And yes, I do play online because I don't have a lot of time to get out to long events to play in paper right now. The deck cost me a little over $200 when I first bought into it online and since then I've added some pieces here and there. With Walking Ballistas and Engineered Explosives added it will probably end up being between $250 - $300.

Grats !! Some considerations and point i want to emphasize:
On storm: the problem wasnt the pieces like grave hates, the problem was stuck in land, i open with 2 seize`s and not draw a single swamp or fetch, sooo sad, i guess the match is some point favorable to us .. but argh
On DS: In this match the luck return and Lodestone Golem and Engineered Explosives was the star, but when he was removing the side, i see Stony Silence (was a DS junk) if he put in game, Explosives cant save us anymore, then what I'd like to say with that, i guess we need something to interact with permanents, side maybe idk .. Echoing Truth
on 8Rack: That player come from other city, then i never played against this, i have dodecapod but is out of side because never used, totally surprised (the same for this player, when he sized me and dont know what to discard hahah)
---
then .. mol, i cant play you !! pay 2 time a deck is hard
Sounds like the storm match was the result of a hand that should've been a mulligan. 2 black cards in hand with no black source is essentially a 5 card hand. This deck can occasionally be pretty punishing to mulligan, but then again I have won lots of games off of mulls to 4 or 5. Deciding what hand to keep or not can be pretty confusing in this deck and is extremely match-up dependent, I still have issue with it and frequently lose games to greedily keeping a hand that appeared to be good. Alternatively, you could be lacking in black sources in general, but based on your recent lists, I wouldn't expect that to be a problem. What does your list from that tournament look like?
Regarding effects that remove permanents, in the past I have generally just ignored all of the various enchantments and artifacts that attempt to hate out our deck. Most of the popular sideboard options for these are not very effective against us. Traditionally my decks have only played Spellskite and a few sideboard cards like Engineered Explosives and Nihil Spellbomb that are affected by Stony Silence and Skite continues to be an effective wall despite it so I consider the opponent to have wasted a turn and a card by playing it. Similarly, Blood Moon may slow us down, but we play plenty of basics and colorless creatures so we can generally play through it and we have a lot of different ways to win through an Ensnaring Bridge. So I usually haven't worried about trying to remove those cards as they aren't much more than speed bumps for us. It is true that Stony Silence makes Walking Ballista significantly worse, but I'm tempted to say that we should once again go for the ignoring it route and either side out the Ballistas or just use our ramp to make them big beaters and continue to attack with them anyway.
I have mulligan once .. then i have fear to down 5 and just hope to draw some black source .. some bad luck and some my bad i guess ... i start to belive that i dont know how to shuffle LOL
I felt the same about Blood Moon but Stony Silence terrify my because DS make bigger blockers for ur creatures, just precaution
I was relutant in Fetid Pools cause this, tapped, but when flooded can be traded, but i agree
Tolaria West was a land i consider too, tutor for all cited byb you, and i still using Academy Ruins
Other i lookf or is Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, as we play some uncolor, but it in my build cause i play mor black spell i guess
my Fatal Push is on the way .. this card was hard to find omg
Urborg doesn't seem necessary. Our duals should cover the 10 or so black spells we run. But if you try it out, let me know if it helps out.
I was just chatting with Ulka and we were discussing Jorubai Murk Lurker in the sideboard as a counter to Death's Shadow. Giving DS lifelink means that if it attacks it kills itself and all other DS the opponent controls. Plus lifelink is useful for us too so its not a bad threat on our side of the board either
I did not know about this card existence, lifelink is a thing a miss, i tested Basilisk Collar (look is only for lifelink mention) together ballista too, how we have big beaters it helps a lot
Jorubai Murk Lurker seems give us something like a Condemn tech without W its a thing, and not an artifact to scape from Stony
--
if we can live chat, we can break a big delay would add much to discuss, but de Timezone cant help much i guess
Live chat can be useful, but I prefer the public forum even though it's slow because this way anyone can find our thread and catch themselves up on all discussion and join in the fun.
Have you guys thought through the addition of Scrap Trawler much? I personally never gave it too serious of a try but over in the Grand Architect thread a couple of them have been saying it is really good against removal heavy decks like Jund and Grixis.
i just toss the option about live, but not abrange .. maybe the brainstorm can run bigger, then brief on forum, but was a idea, nevermind
Since launch, i liked the Scrap Trawler but dont see it fit in deck, but i see it work in Trawler KCI (almost make this deck, but so much hate) and it so fun, have you tested, what slot can be replaced ?
I always look for Treasure Keeper, i like cards can be replaced by yourself
I even considered Matter Reshaper, but its crazy by the C cost
---
I have a little report
2-2 on weekend sooo close 3-1 (5th of 14) of a local store little tournament
JUND: 0x2
Jund have all removal of world ... not much to say
BANT ELDRAZI: 2x1
after lose the game 1, side-in the Ensnaring Bridge, put lots of artifact on game and win wiht Tezz. On game 3, after 3 Lodestone Golem in sequence he scoop it up.
DEAHT AND TAX: 2x0
Curved and Explosive hand, certain hour tutors, Wurmcoil Engine give us the game
NAYA BURN: 1x2
Game one i just no played, so bad, Game 2 Chalice for 1 T2 give me the game, on game 3 i not open hand with Chalice, then risked a race damage, left it with 3 life, but Destructive Revelry left me in range of a Bolt, so sad.
Good work on those wins! We've been talking a little about burn lately, but I consider it about a 50/50 matchup. Having some sort of life gain to side in like Elixir of Immortality, Sun Droplet, or Filigree Familiar is really helpful against them. Were you playing the same deck that you posted above?
The Ensnaring Bridge that won your game 2 vs Bant ELdrazi interests me a lot. That matchup can be difficult and Bridge pretty clearly hurts them a lot, but my mindset with Bridge has always been that we have a couple game plans to win even if our opponent plays it, but I haven't felt solid enough to play it myself and then rely on those alternate wincons. Throne of the God-Pharaoh my help increase that ability, but do you ever worry that you will get unlucky and not draw into Tezz, Throne, or Skite/Architect when you play the Bridges?
Jund is hard and has always been hard. I have always had more success against Abzan despite their access to Path to Exile and I think it's because Jund also has Kolaghan's Command and that card just wrecks us. That being said, useful sideboard cards I have found against them are Pithing Needle (naming Liliana of the Veil), Dodecapod, and Fatal Push (or other cheap removal for Goyfs, etc.) But overall I think that we will always struggle against these decks due to their ability to use both early game discard and follow it up with efficient removal as well as the fact that Green and Red naturally have access to all of the best artifact removal.
yes, is them pratically the same list before, but now i have Fatal Pushs, not much diference in this match, only get Goblin Guides, but know i agree this match is not so difficult if we can have a lifelink font early or a chalice. Lifelink is a font i guess we should have on main plus Wurmocil Engine cause we have big beater early, and life can help us the rest of game
On Ensnaring Bridge
Well, in the momment, i dont think when ill draw the pieces cause i know it is hard do remove, i just load the game wiht our artifact, and Walking Ballista Become the second plan. when i play Molten-Tail Masticore was for Bridge too, other alternative for outside combate damage, and also, when i can play Ensnaring Bridge, the opponent is hurt by shocks and painlands then less artifact is needed, in this case remove some Heartess Summoning for not hold dead card is a good choise, and if Tezz come before Bridge, the game flow easy.
Just to say Kolaghan's Command have my hate!! hahhaa
its card just own by yourself agains us
Some days ago i have a match with merfolk now and the fact we use U facilite so much and the bounces make its hard.
what the best tool we have against ? my Yahenni's Expertise dont came no one game and Explosives destroy us so many 2 CMC
After this and Jund matchup, i guess it can a dead draw, although like it so much, because sometimes ur creatures dont stay in game
I`n in the Grand Architect thread too, and see Throne came from this, but have a point, that deck have around 33 creatures .. its not a point?
maybe the local meta influence this, but if we have some tool that fit well in all math can be consider ? Something good againt remove like Scrap Trawler or that Treasure Keeper or dont know
I think that one of the issues you are noticing is that Throne of the God-Pharaoh is an awful draw when you have an empty board and that decks like Jund are good at doing this to us. I think you are absolutely right and my best answer to this is that you may want to be siding out your Thrones in this matchup in favor of threats that don't go away quite so easily like Scrapheap Scrounger.
The other problem that you mentioned is that merfolk is a nasty matchup for us. Their islandwalk turns the game into a race and we are usually slower. My main advice to this would be consider more spot removal for those islandwalk lords, Ghost Quarters for Mutavaults, keep gunning for those Yahenni's Expertises and Engineered Explosives to try killing off their board, and hope you do not get paired up against them..
On another note, SaffronOlive did an "Instant Deck Tech" video on a Heartless Architect list for MTGGoldfish. It seems like a super outdated list, but it is publicity for the strategy. I noticed that you posted your own list, ghgiunco, and I made a comment on there and linked to our primer so hopefully that will attract some more people to our discussion.
PS, sorry this reply took so long. I have been out of town for about a week and for some reason it wasn't letting me post on here from my phone...
Yea I saw the list on goldfish but I was sad to see how old and outdated the list is. That being said i kinda miss mindslaver on Sideboard. I don't know what I 'd bring it in against but I miss it.
More on focus, because yesterday have another league game:
1x2 against bant eldrazi
Lost the first game then win the second with the same strategy of Ensnaring Bridge, but now, finish with a Walking Ballista for +9 counters, then in the third game, my fear Stony Silence cant allow me win this and the game kinda mirror of second but cant active my ballista, so sad.
Considerations: I guess in tempted to try some Echoing Truth or Cyclonic Rift in side cause this game especific i acumulated so much mana and the table of opponent was immense or some Lost Legacy to prevent Stony enter idk. In case of Legacy, this reach many other problematic cards for us. (what do you think?)
2x0 BW Tokens
0x2 Other tokens (idk why) hahah
i faced an Abzan and guess this match so favorable, but in this day, stucked so hard, not luck
For this match and tokens: in go to test some Sever the Bloodline in side because his exile abillity for exile (catch indestrutible) and amount many token, goyfs, ulamogs target and have flashback for late game, i guess a worth test
Do you see that ?! I was surprised when see about Heartless in goldfish, and try to call attention with the list to see interest, but I did not think to publish the forum, mybad, lets see if more people come to rich this.
I think one of the benefits of our deck is that it almost never cares about Stony Silence. I am assuming you were playing the list that you posted on the mtgGoldfish page, in which case Stony only affects Walking Ballista and Spellskite. Personally I am happy when I see my opponent play it because they basically wasted a turn. It hurts more in the case that you stated where it shuts off 1/3 of our outs underneath Ensnaring Bridge (the others being Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas ult and Spellskite/Grand Architect) so a bounce spell may be helpful if you really want to keep playing the Bridges. Lost Legacy isn't a very clean answer to Stony because they can easily play Stony long before you get a chance to exile it.
I wouldn't say Abzan is favorable. I would say it's a little more 50/50. Definitely a winnable if you play tightly.
yes, ill continue with Ensnaring Bridge here have around 3 Bant Eldrazis, this so hard without, Stony is the problem in this cause even with Bridge he continues to do thing, make token discard with Seer is boring, then we need to win this race, was the first time i see Stony win me, but ill teste some bounce and tell you (i see Cyclone make nice work on that matchup with bridge)
in Lost Legacy is more then stony, it can reach more problematic things
Here have some UG tron with Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger argh its hard, i need a plan, and some valakuts, then i sided some Sea's Claim to deal with their land
In the begin of thread, i ran Duplicant but was sad nots worth, but ill try some Sever the Bloodline and see the impact
Here have some UG tron with Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger argh its hard, i need a plan, and some valakuts, then i sided some Sea's Claim to deal with their land
The main thing I've learned with Tron is that we need to go faster than them. Once they have ramped, it's almost always game over for us. So in order to beat down faster, you can side in cheap strong creatures like Scrapheap Scrounger. You also want to slow them down. So extra Ghost Quarter are helpful. I think Spreading Seas is better than Sea's Claim because it draws you a card and still comes down before turn 3. We could also potentially run Crucible of Worlds to recur Ghost Quarters to permanently keep them off of Tron. Chalice of the Void on 1 early keeps them from casting Expedition Maps and Ancient Stirrings to find their Tron pieces. I have started playing 1 Tolaria West because it finds me toolbox lands as well as several important sideboard cards.
i agree in Spreading Seas cause draw but i opt for Sea's Claim for the curve, mainly the fact you said we need to be faster, and T2 i want to Heartless + Myr in all best case and T3 start to tax. The Crucible of Worlds technique is so sweet, but this card is so expansive for the moment
Tolaria west has been good so far. When it's relevant it finds me important silver bullets and when its not, it still works fine as a CIPT U source. I don't think I would ever want more than one.

The deck cost me a little over $200 when I first bought into it online and since then I've added some pieces here and there. Game one i just no played, so bad, Game 2 Chalice for 1 T2 give me the game, on game 3 i not open hand with Chalice, then risked a race damage, left it with 3 life, but Destructive Revelry left me in range of a Bolt, so sad.
Just to say Kolaghan's Command have my hate!! hahhaa
its card just own by yourself agains us
I want to point one thing about Throne of the God-Pharaoh now to be careful
Something good againt remove like Scrap Trawler or that Treasure Keeper or dont know
The other problem that you mentioned is that merfolk is a nasty matchup for us.
For some control match ill test a Inkwell Leviathan as finisher

Do you see that ?! I was surprised when see about Heartless in goldfish, and try to call attention with the list to see interest, but I did not think to publish the forum, mybad, lets see if more people come to rich this.
I wouldn't say Abzan is favorable. I would say it's a little more 50/50. Definitely a winnable if you play tightly.
What indestructible do you frequently run up against? Phyrexian Metamorph handles Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger pretty well. Duplicant is also a good answer to all indestructible threats as well as Emrakul, the Aeons Torn.
in Lost Legacy is more then stony, it can reach more problematic things
Here have some UG tron with Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger argh its hard, i need a plan, and some valakuts, then i sided some Sea's Claim to deal with their land
In the begin of thread, i ran Duplicant but was sad nots worth, but ill try some Sever the Bloodline and see the impact
The Crucible of Worlds technique is so sweet, but this card is so expansive for the moment
another big thread on this UG is World Breaker omg!
For this UG i try some different playstyles, until discard her seek tools and your big thread cause with G have much tools to search
I got 1 Tolaria West but not put in deck yet but a tutor always welcome, have you tested to say how it impact ?
