I wanted to know some opinions on the latest modern brew, Splendid Valakut. The deck functions similarly to Scapeshift, however instead of finding mountains in our library, we are putting them from our graveyard into play. There are currently 2 main versions of the deck, the dredge variant and the non-dredge variant.
As far as I know the main advantage that this deck has over Scapeshift is that it is a bit faster, with turn 4-5 kills. Scapeshift is, of course, a more resilient deck and this is one of the reasons why I made this thread, so we could try to find a way to make the deck better. (thanks for the quick reply btw)
How much graveyard hate there is depends on the meta. Who is running rest in peace or leyline of the void? Most grave hate is focused on not allowing stuff to trigger like grafdigger cage, which doesn't hurt this deck.
This deck can consistently win turns 4 and 5. Can scapeshift do that? Sure, but it's definitely more of a control deck that's racing to get 7 lands in play. To be fair, scapeshift is probably the better overall deck, but reclamation doesn't care about land destruction.

The new Cycling lands have gotten people interested in this deck again.
I watched The Deck Tech this morning and I'm wondering why Mulch? I dislike forcing all the lands to your hand.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
This deck seems very interesting. I definitely plan on looking into this. Something like Loam Package, Dredge Package, and maybe some Aftermath/Flashback/Retrace cards to try and hold down the fort until we can go off. Just spitballing here. The new cycling lands seem decent, as well as something like the new Rubble or Earth.
Is someone still playing this/willing to contribute to its refinement?
I am not sure about some cards, like the main deck Molten Vortex. It serves as both alt wincon and a way to deal with pesky creatures, but running 1-of seems odd. Also, I havent played the deck a lot in competitive environments and I am not sure at all about the SB. COuld anyone give any SB strategy or recommendations?
He gifts on turn 4 for a Iona, Shield of Emeria but he says red. I proceed to splendid reclamation for the win next turn. Game two, he successfully closes the game naming green this time. G3 I managed to play around his gifts casting an early reclamation (not lethal) and he couldnt fight my ability to draw mountains.
In: 2 Collective Brutalities
Out: 2 Lightning axe
Game 1 I am able to conflagrate a Scavenging Ooze before it gets out of hand and he scoops hard to reclamation (many game 1s are so easy to win against midrangey decks). Game 2 he surprises me with a surgical extraction in response and I simply lose after that. Game 3 gets really close as I cast the reclamation with Valakut in play (not in the GY), so I numb his extraction. I use many triggers to get rid of creatures (which I am not sure it was the way to go), but I finally get to win after he GQ my valakut and proceeds to extract it, but I respond with noxious revival and safe my valakuts.
Bad draws and many counters on his side to slow me down a lot. He also had "natural" tron both games and he smashed me with his sundering titan. Nothing I could have really done here.
Even though I am not able to master the deck and the SB properly, it felt really strong and, most importantly, super fun to play. People were really amazed. I dont like the one ofs in the SB so I might replace them with 2 GQ (to synergise with our Life from the loam) or similar. I didnt use the Titans that much, but I really think they should be there. In any case, this deck can not afford to SB in many cards, because the engines are pretty tight already and the flex spots are not abundant.

Do you guys think that we could create a 'plan B' for the deck so that it doesn't just fold to control/ graveyard exile?

Easy win game 1. G2 I just win before he goes off. Nothing really to remark here.
