Hey mtgnorin/Mtgthewary, what is your Chalice-free decklist? I was in discussion with another player at my LGS about a budget build of this deck. I posted a tentative list at tappedout.com but wasn't sure if you were playing the SSGs or not.

This deck looks super fun. I'm curious why the absence of MB Rest In Peace (even SB it seems like it only appears in handful of versions of this deck)? It not only hurts opponents as much/more than Relic can and means no matter how often the Scourge dies, it can keep coming right back.
Also I apologize if I missed it but I have an odd question about a card like Journey to Nowhere. I'm assuming you can still cast Scourge if your opponent exiles it this way (please correct me if I'm wrong about this), in which case if it dies again and Journey is somehow removed before we cast it (yet again), does it come back or is now considered a different card than the one originally exiled by Journey?

This deck doesnt run RIP cause it doesn't run white, it's entirely colorless. The deck we were discussing above does run white but also does not run scourge.
If Journey to Nowhere targets Eternal Scourge then scourge exiles immediately before JTN's ETB trigger resolves. Journey to nowhere would end up with no creature exiled under it. Therefore, if JTN was destroyed you would not get Scourge back.
Just thought I give a little update from my FNM results. I haven't played this deck in awhile since I have been tinkering with a Abzan Blink deck for fun. Well I ended up going 3-1 with the deck,
Match 1: Jund won in 3
Game 1: I was able to chalice on 1 and 2 then shut him down, win
Game 2: he beat me with a goyf, lost
Game 3: chalice for 2, then beat him with creature, I was able to guy shot his lily, win
Match 2: R/W Burn lost in 3
Game 1: bad mulligans and just bad luck, lost
Game 2: cake walk for me, win
Game 3: it was close, but he got me with a eidolon, lost
Match 3: R/W burn won in 2
Game 1: chalice for 1, stabilized then swing with thought-knot and smasher
Game 2: powder twice, mulligan to 4 then back to back temple with chalice and thought-knot for the win, this is where practice comes in mulliganing
Match 4: G tron, won in 2
Game 1: powdered three time, stayed aggressive with creatures and ghost quarters for the win
game 2: chalice for 1, aggressive with creature, I was able to dismember and block with endless one then dismember the deathtouch 3/3 wurm next play
Overall this deck felt really good and I think it is in a good spot. I figured I'd see more jace decks but I saw more jund around. I will say the new ponza variant may be a pain but we shall see
Just wanted to give you my two cents with the deck. I ran the standard deck but the only thing I ran in the sideboard was a additional gut shot and spellskite since I don't have surgical extraction.
Chalice gets a reprint (albeit at Mythic), might see this deck pick up a little. FWIW I think 1-2 Cavern of Souls is a pretty good include in the mainboard.

I also agree with this, I think cavern of souls needs to be in the deck.
Ive always run cavern as my meta is quite control heavy so if its going to be even more control heavy overall then I can confirm that 2xCavern is a must.

Haven't played Magic in over a year, had this deck built from back then, loved it, but life got in the way. Finally looked up how magic was doing with all the changes to modern and seen that the deck was more well positioned than ever. Cracked it open and was thrilled to see that Jordan had recently updated his list so I just made the changes and took it to a modern tournament last night. I was very rusty but still went 3-1 with the deck.
Game 1 Eldrazi Tron 1-2
Match 1: He just kept drawing blanks, I beat him down with Scourges very slow hand, but had mulliganed to 5 so thought it was better than a risky 4.
Match 2: He just got me, he slow handed again and I mulliganed to 5 and couldn't do much.
Match 3: It went to time and I got confused on the Turn 0 rule so I ended up losing but could've forced a draw. It wasn't clear who was going to win though had we more time.
Bye
Game 2 Bogles/Auras whatever it's called now 2-1
Match 1: I mulliganed to 5 and he just had everything he just ran me over with auras and gladecover scout.
Match 2: I mulliganed to 4 he was winning but his only creature was a dryad arbor. I topdecked Ghost Quarter blew up his whole field and then topdecked reality smasher for the win.
Match 3: Chalice of the void stopped him in his tracks. He drew a card off of auramancer but next turn I drew the thought-knot and stripped his seal of primordium or whatever it was called.
Game 3 Tron 2-0
Match 1: Chalice on the play shut his eggs and map off. Beat him down with scourges.
Match 2: He firespouted my field after I held him off tron with ghost quarter and chalice. I popped scavenger grounds end of turn and he just laughed and conceded. Guess he wasn't paying attention to what I had but he was clearly a goner either way.
Overall the deck is just as fun as I remember it. I got seriously screwed with my hands, no temple mimic openers and i serum powdered only once. But even with those unlucky hands I still was able to grind out wins. Chalice is a beast and smuggler's copter is amazing too. If i had been able to curve out I could've easily 4-0ed. Maybe not even lost a single match. Either way the greatest thing about the deck is how fun it is. I've loved eldrazi ever since zendikar when I started playing. It never feels like you're out of the game and it's a unique deck. Gemstone caverns on the draw exiling scourge, TKS, pumping mimic with smasher, crewing copter with nexus, SSG Chalice turn one, these are just feel good plays and I look forward to piloting this deck for a long time now. The only other deck I'm really interested in at the moment is Burn but I doubt it could replace the fun I have playing this. I'll try to keep doing updates if interesting stuff happens. I'm using the decklist Jordan has in his latest article except the sideboard is missing the extraction because I don't have one yet.
I dunno, giving up Chalice and the manlands for that spell and creature package seems dubious, to me. Obligator is arguably better than Scourge, depending on whether you want to grind or go aggro. But 21 lands in a deck with four Smashers? That's just bad deck building.
Speaking of giving up Chalice... Given it's price, running it, let alone 4 of it, is going to be entirely out of the question for me for some time. What would you run in place of it? Would you also cut the SSG (if so what would you replace those with as well)?
Maindeck Relic plus maxing out on Endless One (which is amazing with Mimic) and maybe a Ratchet Bomb, Gutshot, or Matter Reshaper or two seems like a pretty good budget angle for this deck... you can get the whole thing for like $300, depending on your land package (Cavern of Souls, Nexus, and Mutavault all end up as the expensive cards in the budget version).
I used to run the deck with relic in place of chalice and I left SSG in so I could increase my chances of T2 TKS and the like. Id say play around with having SSG and not having SSG and see what you like best. It can definitely be a dead draw at some points but enables some broken turns. Relic is a good replacement cause it's almost always relevent and has awesome synergy with Scourge.
Good job in the classic Jordan, looking forward to a report. I'm slowly building my deck online to test a lot more for Hartford, hope to see you there.

couple notes on things above... that BR list , i played a league with it and it was pretty bad.
cavern is not necessary... its not wrong, but theres other lands that are more important i think. if you look at the last two lists posted (jordans classic, and my comp league 5-0)... neither have any caverns... our lists were the same but i had 3 ratchet bomb 2 neeedle, he had 4 bomb 1 needle) ... 0 endless ones.

Relic is a 1 drop (bad for Chalice, good for curve), requires only generic mana, gets better in multiples, and cantrips when not relevant.
Even if we ran white, Relic would still be better.
