What's the most accepted colorless variant with maindeck chalice?
Something close to this. The stock list is -1 Wastes, +1 Scavenger Grounds, -1 Relic of Progenitus, +1 Smuggler's Copter, but since the rise of Assassin's Trophy and Dredge, I've gone to this and liked it. Grounds is solid but feels slow in the preboard matchups where it matters, and the replacement piece of gravehate I'm playing mainboard has more utility, plus it cycles. The sideboard numbers are fudgable, too, and I've gone up to 3x Spatial Contortion online due to Spirits and Humans. Spirits actually feels like a solid matchup now.
Went 2-3 in a competitive league last night. Weirdest matchups ever. Losses to UW Control, Green Devotion, and Mill, wins against Burn and White Prison. I think Green Devotion and Mill are just bad matchups, especially Mill, when you start out with 39 cards in the library due to Serum Powdering a few unkeepable hands.
Against the bigger players in the format, this deck feels pretty good lately. I think UW Control is way tougher than Jeskai, and Burn feels like a bye since they're not playing Bridge in the board lately. BG Rock is tougher than Jund, surely, but it feels winnable. Spirits, Tron, and Dredge all feel fine. Chalice isn't super well-positioned right now, but it absolutely wrecks some decks, and then you can board it out and put in gravehate, removal, or both. I wish we had a better sweeper than Ratchet Bomb, but the better sweeper might just be more spot removal and better sequencing.

I can't say I'm pleased to see you and must warn you I may have to do something about it.

Game one I was on the play and started with chalice on one. My opponent was able to lightning helix a reshaper and electrolyze a mimic but otherwise was unable to do anything to slow me down. Cleaned up pretty quickly.
Game 2 I boarded out dismember for needle, surgical, and two relics. Didnt see any of them, but I kept a 7 with temple and mimic and a good curve, then drew second temple for thought knot into smasher. Opponent blocked with snapcaster but didnt have time to interact.
Round 2 vs bant knightfall 0-2
Game one I kept temple, ssg, chalice, threats on the draw. He goes noble into knight, has pridemahe for chalice and paths my threats. Closes pretty quickly with normal knight beats.
Wasnt sure how to board, I brought in all my removal and took out smasher and mimic. Looking back I would have taken out the chalice package instead.
Kept a hand with gemstone cavern and lots of removal, but couldn't keep up with multiple collected companies. By the time he played knight it was out of range for dismember and I didnt draw scavenger grounds to fix it.
Match 3 vs Martyr Proc 2-1
Game 1 I played chalice on 1 on the play. We played a few turns but eventually after revealing a hand full of 1 drops to tks my opponent scooped
I boardedthe same as my knightfall match here, removal in, mimic and smasher out. Not sure if I would change for this match.
Game 2 I kept a hand with temple and an aggressive curve but I didnt see any of the removal I boarded in. Couldn't get past a wall of spirits and succumbed to chip damage from flyers.
Game 3 I had gemstone with eternal scourge, unfortunately on the play but with a grip full of removal. I dismimbered the first martyr then drew a chalice which I played on 1. My opponent flooded the field with squadron hawks and leonin arbiter which I was able to take care of with ratchet bomb while beating down with a thought knot seer.
Overall I felt good about my choice to play the deck. I'm going to brush up on my sideboard plans, since I was unsure for two of my matches how to board. If collected company continues to succeed in bant spirits and other forms I will probably find room for grafdiggers cage but I felt like this was as much my unfamiliarity with the match as it was being a bad match.
Jund is no longer a freebie it seems. Assassin’s Trophy hits all the stuff they had trouble with previously, and Liliana Last Hope + on Scourge every turn is annoying.
So, I'm brewing up a black/colorless version of this deck with discard spells and more removal instead of the chalice/spirit guide combo. Basically, trading in blowout potential for versatility (and not needing to shell out $$$ for chalices). But, as everyone's saying, the control matchup is bad without manlands. What I'm wondering is which creature out of the sideboard would help more: Pack Rat or Scrapheap Scrounger. The Scrounger has synergy with Eldrazi Mimic, Eternal Scourge, and Smuggler's Copter while recurring itself, but Pack Rat can win the game in short order if they let it resolve and have no boardwipes. Any thoughts or alternative suggestions?

I find this matchup amazing still. Trophy just ramps us into big Scourge turns. LLH has been their best card against us for over a year, but it's easy to play through. Just do non-Scourge things until you can kill it.

Yeah, three:
- Don't play Mimic without Chalice + Powder
- Don't play Powder alongside targeted discard
- Don't post about budget decks in this forum
Sounds like you are onto a far worse (bc tension) version of existing BW (currently successful) and BG (currently not) Eldrazi shells.
the card itself really isn't worth the card board its printed on...does it serve a purpose? Sure its a blue 1 drop that might not be a 1/1. I would not put it in a list and expect to win a PTQ or GP though.
If you play scrapheap, do it in Main. Great synergies and better as pack rat. It is sure great with mimic. Chalice you dont need and it is often useless, this is one of the reasons so less it is played now in the current meta and why eldrazi tron is death. Try your Version, it is sure funny. Discard maybe helps against our nightmare opponents with bridge as example.

Only if you let affect it. Serum powder without temple, but discard = no keep game 1 if you dont knew opponent deck. But if you know it can help. Maybe same starting Hand is after mulligan keepable if opponents play Combo like kci, bogles or a bridge deck.

Good work and Nice report and 2 colorless in top 10 was a good day. What they give you for place 9 in a 250 player event in USA? Money? I ask because in germany they cannot pay money because of gambling rules. Most interesting part was with crucible, because tomorrow i am on a tournament with 2 in my sideboard for testing (4 tectonic, 4 ghost quarter, 1 field Main)
Ok, tournsment Series there for this year is over. Played 4 times there and was allways in top 4 (2 times first). 24 player, 28 player, 35 player and 38 player. Overall GW percentage of me is 73,66% which was calculated of the tournament organizer. 18 wins, 3 lost, 1 draw. Yesterday 2:0 mardu, 2:1 jeskai, 2:0 titanshift, 1:2 kci, 2:1 dredge. Boarded my crucible only 1 time, but didnt draw it. The best win was vs. Dredge with Mulligan on 3 and win vs. Keeping hand because i draw unbelivable good. I was happy ones more playing relics Main (jeskai, mardu, dredge, kci are all gravebased). Finished on 3 yesterday and list will come in next days on Mtg top 8 again
Has Zhalfirin Void replaced Sea Gate Wreckage completely? New to the deck and built the version in the primer for the deck. Should I get some Voids instead?
I think slowly but surely the grindy elements are being trimmed away, as Jordan has also recently said he would cut all the scavenger grounds as well. Void is a great card in the deck since it improves our draws without costing mana or tempo. I would read his most recent article and base your version on the list there.
Hey everyone! I've been playing Colorless Eldrazi for more than one year now. The deck is great but I'm seriously worried about its future longevity.
The main reason is that most of its power comes from the card eldrazi temple, which allows us to only play colorless eldrazi spells, and while every other deck in the format is more likely to get upgrades as new cards are released, we are basically staring at a static pool which will not evolve over time.
What do you think about this?
Nah. They will always release great utility upgrades to colorless. Smuggler's Copter and Zhalfirin Void were awesome for us, for instance. I think we are likely to get upgrades at a faster rate than many highly streamlined Modern decks, such as Hollow One (discard methods/payoffs).
the card itself really isn't worth the card board its printed on...does it serve a purpose? Sure its a blue 1 drop that might not be a 1/1. I would not put it in a list and expect to win a PTQ or GP though.
I think turn one Chalice will always be relevant in Modern, and I doubt another shell for it emerges any time soon so gracefully incorporates early aggression (Temple/Mimic), heavy-duty hand disruption (Seer), an anti-attrition plan (Relic/Scourge), and built-in consistency on this level (Powder/Void).

Highlights of his list:
-0 Copter MD
-1 Warping Wail MD
-23 lands with 2 Scavenger Grounds
-2 Baby Karn in SB
-2 Damping Sphere in SB
I can understand the absence of Copter and the inclusion of Warping Wail MD but it seems that the list should be firm on 22 lands and 2 scavenger grounds maybe a little too much (I found that one is already too slow against dredge and KCI).
Sideboard with a little spice (2 Baby Karn is gas), not fan of Damping Sphere but seems a reasonable option to stop Phoenix decks shenanigans and also slow down Tron and Storm which are bad matchups.
His entire sideboard is very different from the normal decklist, and he is using fewer consistency tools. Looks like karn and batterskull for grindy elements in place of relic and favoring spot removal with the full 4 contortion as well as the mainboard warping wail with less ratchet bombs. Full 4 ghost quarters as well.
I think leyline is a resonable choice, synergy with powder instead of scourge, and replacing the grindy element of recasting scourge endlessly with karn and batterskull, which I think are more likely to take over a game unchecked rather than just eating opponents Resources while waiting on a bomb. I dont like dropping copter and 1 void with leylines, being able to get rid of extras and find ways to end the game quickly seems critical.
Clearly this different approach worked for Austin, so again congratulations and maybe this will help the rest of us to succeed as well
