the card itself really isn't worth the card board its printed on...does it serve a purpose? Sure its a blue 1 drop that might not be a 1/1. I would not put it in a list and expect to win a PTQ or GP though.
eternal series Aalen played today in 6 rounds and i finished again first place. It was the second time i played there and i was 2 times the winner...happy about 105 Euro winning. List will come next days again. 2:1 vs. Living end with warping wail/surgical ftw, 2:0 jeskai with scourge and caverns ftw, 2:0 vs tron GQ and TEC edge ftw, 2:1 death shadow top deck smasher ftw, 2:1 mardu smasher/relic ftw, 1:2 lost vs. GW valuetown
+ 40 Euro, bye and playmat for Prag mkm series next week i cant take...no time and money to go there with some friends. They all go without me and now i am more unhappy after winning about this. Its really ***** we cant take our prizes if we are not going ourselfes
Relic is better: 1: It has great synergy with Scourge 2: Top Decks in modern use grave 3: its never useless if you dont need it......this is my opinion since 1 year, but it seems i am the only one with this Opinion. The only one? No, not anymore because Jeff Hoogland played our Deck again and now he say the same. Changes? Chalice out, Relic in is his opinion
yes, so i cant go out of creatures like with chalice. loosing instant to affinity and bogles and lantern is worth for me. My matchups against most of the rest increased a lot. At the moment control is in a really good position and we cant win allways with chalice against them. Relic is better in this match ups because in a longer game they will bounce your chalice (cryptic as an example or detention sphere) and then they play instant all of the 1 drops they collected. This ist not so easy against relic, it keeps grave clean and let you draw if needed...scourge killing is impossible except of terminate. Another reason is we have 1 drops and our turn 1 is not useless without temple or with temple but without mimic or simian. Now we can play turn 1 relic, or mimic if temple, or even endless one. Our curve is much better to pressure your opponent. i tested zhalfirin void, but in my relic version it was useless because turn 1 till turn XY i have allways enough cards to play. I dont need to filter, so i put back my caverns into mainboard for all the new blue mages everywhere. Beating tron with playset ghost quarter and tectonic edge is a joke too and how the hell blue mages will cast teferi, if they cant go more then 4 lands? Scapeshift is now coming too and tectonic edge its great against them too. Burn? Yes chalice is great against burn, but i dont loose against them too because i have endless one for playing fast and this is enough to stop their attacks. The only problem is to be aware of the 2 ensnaring bridge in their sideboard against us. Without chalice, we have no problems with our 1 drops in sideboard anymore like gut shot, relics (most of you), surgical....you can play them all without beeing afraid to draw them after chalice on 1
I like your reasoning. I'm thinking of running the deck back at tonight's Modern event since I did so well last week, and will probably try your changes.
Has anyone tried act of aggression in the sideboard? Not sure if it's any good. Might do well against a death's shadow or in a board stall.
never tryed it and it seems like a interesting card but not really playable for us because we have enough 3 drops like scourge, serum powder, matter reshaper. But maybe i am wrong and i hope you can test it?

tell us how it goes please. But i hope you have not many bogles, bridge decks and affinity in your store because this will kill you easy (Gw company too, but i think with chalice the same). Dont forget to cut some ratchet bombs, they are bad if no simian spirit to play them faster. At the moment i use only 2 and this is enough for me.

I'm not sure why you still claim this; my first build of the deck post-Scourge in fact did run Relic main over Chalice and I've always advocated for either (never both at once) depending on the metagame (see Primer).
Even if Relic were in fact better now, that would not validate your advocating for it over the past year, as the Modern metagame shifts significantly over time; in any case, the big results this deck has achieved thus far (as well as the 5-0s), and notably over the past year, are with Chalice main, not Relic. Most convincing way to back up your preferred build is, of course, to top with it!

I did 5:0 on weekend and i finished 5:1 at end. This was not the first time and its unbelivable how often i win with this decks compared to other decks in 18 years of magic i played. I have no mtgo to play and i have not enough time to travel into another country to do this in big tournaments...and even if i try it, i must be lucky to make top 8 with only trying this 1 time. But i see how succesfull relic is since 1 year and how bad it feels for me each time i tryed chalice. For me personaly it is since this time and relic seems each month stronger and stronger. So lets give it a chance now. Maybe the new meta now full of control is the reason to bring out chalice again? On mtgo i think it is not enough control, because people prefer faster decks without a clock, so relic is maybe even with chalice. But paper shows a lot more control, so it is maybe the only difference why sometimes chalice seems for some of you better and why for me relic seems better? Another reason is i dont like the 50% Match ups. My philosophy is trying to dodge 80% loose match ups like bogles/company/affinity, and win vs. decks where i have 80% chance to win like jund/tron/control..... i like this real flipcoin match ups and i think playing with chalice is not such a flip coin like relic (even if most think chalice is more flipcoin). All in for luck on your opponents and win or loose after seeing the first card of your opponent is what i need. 50% match ups are for Jundplayers...i dont need it. Even jeff hoogland dont like chalice compared to relic in our deck. You think too relic is now in this meta better ashtoncutcher? Or not? Or you are not sure about? What is your opinion on this in this meta? change or wait?

I still think Chalice is better. I am surprised you would go with Hoogland's take over mine since he has no results with the deck, but I guess it fits your narrative. I am of course open to changing my position if my own testing or tangible results by other players (MTGO 5-0s; multiple published Top 16s in competitive REL events; etc.) indicate Relic's superiority, but so far they just don't.
If you are really so unstoppable on Relics, I look forward to seeing some consistent tournament finishes from you! I of course follow Modern quite closely and also moderate this thread, so I doubt they'll slip by me.

How should i be more konsistent? I play eternal series Aalen 2 times (28 players and 33) and win both of them. I played in Kempten first time some weeks ago and win there. I played Pforzheim with 48 player and 2 times about 30 player. Win one of them, was place 3 the other one and 3:2 last time ( means 2/3 top 3 on average 36 people...i played in a 95 player tournament 5:1:1....i cant play more konsistent like this and i do this since 1 year without explaining my succes on my own store till all begin to play bridge Decks and bogles, lol ...i proofed a lot here and maybe it is your own narrative and not mine?
Kolaghans Command and cryptic command destroys to often our chalice plan...abrade as a New weapon for red do this too and to many Decks dont care about chalice, and its an awful topdeck if not in your opening Hand. I really belief relic is the key in this meta. Another reason is so many people board wrong against me and bring in artifact destruction....but i dont care about this because no chalice...let them waste slots
I don't know why you two are arguing about this. One is arguing that the 4 wheel drive is better and lives in the country, the other is arguing that coupes are the way to go and lives in the city. You aren't even in the same meta.
And oh, you're both beautiful.
(and I play relic because chalice is expensive)

I'm not interested in arguing, was just confused about his tone and conviction given that I haven't seen any results with the deck sans Relics on any of the metagame sites I follow. I only said that I prefer Chalice right now because I was explicitly asked.
My stance on this issue is clear and has been restated many times: although I feel that Chalice is better currently, Relic is more viable in certain metagames. And above all, if it works for you, by all means continue doing it! Chalice nets me consistent results (the largest of which are well-documented), so there's no amount of telling me that "Kolaghan's Command beats it," etc. that will get me to switch.

Noone plays relic and noone try it...how could you See results so? Means this relic is worse them chalice? Maybe....but maybe it is only because no one play it like no one played hollow ones, pyromancer, eldrazi tron or our stompy and now RG eldrazi for a long time even this decks was available. No results dont allways mean its Bad...sometimes magic players only try to less New ways and thats all
Kolaghan dont convince you, cryptic not, abrade not...how about aprupt decay? This cards are everywhere and aether vial can destroy our plan too, but this doesnt really matter because relic is Bad against humans and merfolk too. How is your match vs. Company Decks especially GW? For me it is unwinnable even if they use grave too
i really must be doing something wrong to do so many 2-2 with this deck....
saying that luck doesn't help with all the stompy lists is a bad joke...
anyway, it's nice to have this forum to see that the deck is a thing.

What did you cut for yours?
I cut two Endless One's. So I have a 2/2 split between the two.
