Mine have gone pretty well as long as we can slam them with a Blood Moon and an Ensnaring Bridge. All is Dust will destroy our boardstate if it comes down but bridge will stay because it's a colourless artifact. They have 0 artifact removal main board so if you can get a bridge down early enough, the Walking Ballista won't be an issue even if it starts pinging you for damage.

Kill conditions. This deck has far more kill conditions than most if not all control decks which I really like. I was wanting to know if anyone made use of the new red god card, Hazoret the Fervent, in this set? If so, what were your thoughts on it.

A lot of the regulars here have the opinion that our main deck has two flex slots in it. Its previously been filled with Walking Ballista and Crystal Ball but I think that this god card will be the final two pieces we need for our main deck.

Yeah, it does one thing that we slightly need and that's hand thinning and it bypasses "target player." Beyond a one of I'm going with Outpost Seige over Crystal Ball. Red Sun Zenith is my Walking Ballista.
Spec.op, personally I'd say no to Pyretic unless you have nothing else to go in the slot. The acceleration in the deck to drop an early Moon or Bridge is solid, and any acceleration past T3 is a dead draw imho. Raystack' original deck is solid in the current Metagame. I do appreciate the ability to add Rabblemaster to the MD and allow for a faster kill under the lock, which is the Achilles heal of the deck...having a lock on the game and not being able to finish...my next session with the deck will likely see more Koth in the deck to help speed up the kill, as his ultimate is faster and better for closing the game.
I played a decent amount tonight. nothing serious, just kitchen table with friends, and I started thinking about the Thopters and the under the Bridge/over the enemy mojo a little, so I went through the database and I found an interesting.. possibly unplayable, possibly amazing 2 drop.. Dragon Hatchling. Ok, I know, it's not a god. But it is a Mana sink, and an evasive threat that can slip under the bridge and take away some chunks in the midgame. Part of me still thinks it's a horrible idea, but it's up in the air.. what do you guys think?
More new faces, cards to evaluate, and strategies to hit the test track.....
@Valleysdai: Welcome to The Mountain Club! As for thoughts on Colorless Eldrazi Stompy, it's perplexing matchup. On the surface, you'd think Blood Moon would end their picnic, but they eventually just keep dropping lands until they overwhelm. So, don't delay on executing a win. They're most annoying card is Walking Ballista vs. our planeswalker wins. Also, Endbringer is a *****er. You know what stops both as well as Thought-Knot Seer: Witchbane Orb. Other cards to consider: Roast, Magus of the Moon, Phyrexian Revoker, Shattering Spree, Pithing Needle, and Molten Rain.

Housekeeping Note that got raised in your 1st post: We are categorically notFree Win Red nor All-in Red. Saffron Olive posted up Free Win Red on December 19th of 2015. I reference it in the Official Primer as a partial inspiration for this thread, but a lot has happened since 2015. My current deck has more different cards than same cards: only 37 of the 75 cards he listed are still in my deck. In the last 6 months, we've put (3) Top 8 finishes in Premier Tournaments, and Saffron Olive still has never played his own deck in a paper tournament, nor has anyone piloted his deck to a top finish (to my knowledge). That deckstyle is novel and has appeal, sure, but tournament competitive? I wrote the following in February of this year:
What's in a Name?
It's been tossed around that this thread is, to some degree, a proxy site for Free Win Red or All-In Red. We are a distinct deck unto ourselves, Mountainfolk. For instance, my RED Prison // Hammer's Slammer deck is Thirty-Three (33) cards different from Saffron Olive'sFree Win Red deck that I originally reference in the Official Primer over a year ago. Independently, we have developed our decks to become more similar - that's true. Nonetheless, he started with no Chalice of the Void and has since combined (4) of them with a healthy array of 1-CMC drops.
We've gone big. That's why the RED is capitalized. We have creatures in the main and sideboard (ala Bloody Humans), a higher average CMC, and more diversified lands & threats.
My concern with going to a Free Win Red approach is 'win-con speed'. Take your Bring to Light / Scapeshift matchup. Without creatures pressing the attack, is a planeswalker win enough? Grixis/Control will similarly choose the right spells to remand/mana leak. How about Jund/Abzan? If your Blood Moon doesn't hit immediately (or Magus doesn't die to a bolt/path), then cards like Pia and Kiran Nalaar/Spellskite are some of your only hopes as your bridge will get blown. Tron? Again, you have to put them on a clock with Goblin Rabblemaster. Free Win Redis a fine deck, but, like Khan in the Mutara Nebula, its thinking is....2 dimensional. Seth/Saffron Olive says he has not played his deck in paper, and according to his last update his online win percentage (Eight 5-round tourneys) is in the low 70s% range.
The creatures make all the difference. They allow for a metered implementation of the locks. It doesn't have to happen all on turn 2, and if your deck is all about having every answer in the earliest stages of the game, then the mid-late game will have Captain Kirk rising up behind you with phasers blasting. Don't rush out an Ensnaring Bridge, for instance. It doesn't even have to come out early against Infect, Chalice of the Void does. In a lot of ways, Pia and Kiran Nalaaris a bridge, plus they attack and can throw out mini-bolts. Trust in the other components of the deck knitting together to create a comprehensive net.
Honestly, I believe we are right around the corner from being a recognized tier deck. This brings up the issue of branding - name recognition. I always liked the cheeky, but accurate, name of Hammer's Slammer. I feel like we want to keep RED Prison as the title - it reflects how we ramp into high cost kill spells, and obviously we're mono-red. The creature element should be addressed, though. Is it time for a change?
RED Prison // Chandra's Cage RED Prison // Bondage Babe RED Prison // Nalaar's Nightmare RED Prison // Hog-Tied & Slapped Silly RED Prison // The Chandra Bunch RED Prison // 2 Chandras and a Chalice
I'm open to ideas, mountainfolk. Please private message me if you've got a suggestion.
Mvilla - our most recent champion - so, we're thinking of backing Goblins out of the MD? Hell, it's worked before - sure. You won an SCG IQ without them there. Let us know how it susses. Details, baby! Playoffs?? My overall concern is the amount of pressure we're bringing to bear in game 1 is all.
@Spec.ops: Hazoret, The Fervent. Our God was released at Midnight last night. Real deal? What I've been doing is pretty simple. I'm tracking mid-game how often I'm at 0-1 cards in hand and roughly thinking would The God be active and effective at this time. So far, I'm pretty surprised at how often I'm 2+ cards in hand, but very very limited sample size.
And, I also wanted to chime in on the deck's name. Personally, I don't feel that "hammer slammer" fits it. Main reason is that it doesn't reflect the deck to me. It sounds cool, buts that's it. Chandra's Cage fits it nicely, but some might think the cage is for the opponent. Then it goes from sexy bondage to doninatrix. lol And, being a dude, I ain't having any of that! lol So this brings me to a name that was mentioned somewhere deep in the thread (yes I read the whole thing). It was - "Blood Clock." It's red, it's bloody moon, it's control via clock. But, "Bloody Cage" might fit the deck better. Even "Red Cage." But, if someone can find a way infuse Chandra in the name that was functional I would be keen on it.
I wrote a decent length response regarding Dragonlord raystack but it didn't go through and I don't want to write it again. It contained phrases like "it dies to everything", "if it suits you" and "I might give him a try though"
regarding the Red God. Aren't you missing the best part of it? It lets us dump our hand to hide behind the Bridge and does that overcoming hexproof I am keen to test it but probably no more than 1 off
Some decent suggestions, Vallyesdai. But, such is the world of competitive Modern, it has to be pretty near perfect if it's going to considered for inclusion in our 60. As a matter of fact, I have recently shrunk my main deck from 60 to 56 cards.
Is my opponent going to yell, "Judge!" when I present my main deck (the sideboard deck ) Nope, this goes back to recollections of the first printing of the bauble, Urza's Bauble in Ice Age. We quickly realized that we could shrink our deck by 4 cards: streamline and accelerate by adding a 0-cost cantrip. The drawback is the delayed draw effect. Since then, a whole lot of synergies have evolved into making this mechanic even better.
What is the #1 *****er about a bauble? It's drawing up a couple in your starting hand when you know there are other cards in your deck that you'd like to have drawn and can play immediately. Is that a crisis for us? Not....even....a....little. We have no 1-CMC spells. None. I don't care if I draw 4 baubles or 0. Actually, 4 sounds peaches to me. So, I'm able to include baubles and shave down duplicates of cards that don't cumulatively create a positive game state. Notably, I don't want duplicates of Chandra, Torch of Defiance or Pia and Kiran Nalaar in my opening hand, but I do want to enhance my statistical probability of getting to an ensnaring bridge. Thus, mishra's bauble.
The shame of it all is that we don't have any real synergies to attach to the casting/activation of a bauble: prowess/storm/graveyard recursion/delirium. So, it begs the question, "Is Mishra's Bauble even worth it?". Frankly, I don't know. But, it's fun though, isn't it.
I like this idea of streamlining our deck but this seems a risky move and I don't own any baubles so it's a $200 "maybe" currently. I will have to see more results before taking the plunge on this one.
edit:
I was looking through your re-write of the primer Raystack and it is fantastic. Very informative with the right amount of humor to pull the reader in. If I may make a suggestion (and I for one would be willing to contribute), we are a sideboard deck and our sideboard section is a little lackluster. It also contains many cards that we do not use in our sideboard. I feel that the sideboard guide needs to be revised with an IN/OUT list per matchup so that we may use it as a resource before attending FNM's and the like. It's easier to memorize a sideboard list for the decks in our meta instead of memorizing all the cards in all the decks and knowing them well enough to perform optimally in rounds 2 and 3.
Please don't take this as a harsh criticism because I want nothing more than for people to know the feeling of our prison bars closing on them and setting them ablaze within.

As far as the primer, i agree, very well written as always, Raystack!
So, I have a suggestion for a name.. how do you guys feel about;
PYROPRISON
I think I like it. I was tweaking a copy of my list on mtggoldfish and it came to me
So the last couple of days I've been thinking about Mishra and her sweet Baubles, and unfortunately I'm priced out. A few minutes ago, it dawned on me. There's another free cycling card I can use, and it's a whole lot cheaper... Manamorphose! I think I'll try it out
I haven't had a chance to read the updates to the primer yet, yet but I wanted to chime in on the Baubles. I would advise against them like I would fetch lands. Raystack, like you mentioned, there is no secondary benefit. Plus, it is a bad top draw. As a control deck we should not be adding synergistic low value combo-esk like cards to our brew. They have place like Robots or Gobots but not here IMO. Control is value driven. Lastly, if the Baubles were so good why are they not in far more modern decks? Robots and Gobots do not run them when they are more structured to MD them?
On the name man oh man "Pyro Prision" has a ring to it!
I got the chance to play with Manamorphose today, only a few games, but I'll tell you this.. turn 2 Morphose into Magma Jet killing their 1 drop felt pretty strong. Basically Shock into Serum Visions...
Thanks for the good words on the Official Primer revamp - I'm pretty keen on the new look as well. It was pretty overdue, but I wanted to write with confidence. After a year of playing this deck almost exclusively & running it on cockatrice near-nightly, the time had come. As for the 'in/out' section of sideboarding that was requested by a couple people, I will kick that idea around - feels like a little too 'paint by numbers' to me.
Valleysdai was looking for some feedback on his deck. The elementary question is, 'what do you want to see change?" What matchups are giving you trouble? How much have you playtested it. There is a lot going on in your list - lotsa cards. 2 thoughts: Ghost Quarter is bad. You're helping your opponent fetch for basic lands while you're dropping your own land count. Kozilek's Return, without Eldrazi, seems off. Anger/Sweltering/Slagstorm are my faves. I do like the flavor addition of Heartless Hidetsugu. Hidetsugu!!! When playing this card, you must raise a fist and shout his name - japanime style.
Manamorphose.....Manamorphose. Very very interesting Caligula. I talked about my recent goal of streamlining and accelerating my deck as fast as is goblin-Americanly possible. The first step was Mishra's Bauble. It allowed me to shave down 1 land and duplicate Piran and Chandra spells. I think I like it. Again, I am not sold, just that the playtesting has been leaning towards positive. My next two cards that I tested for speed out on the track:
Yet again, Faithless Looting has me feeling like a tool. (4) Chalice repeatedly beat it to the board, and the loss of card economy paired with 0 graveyard shenanigans....I'm embarrassed to have even brought this up.
As for Tezzeret's Gambit, I have used it in tourney play before. Since we don't have to worry about being hellbent quite so much (reduced prevalence of Infect/Affinity), it's a thought. And, I did pull off a win recently by proliferating Koth...but, it's in our 3-cmc slot. Crowded. It does ping us for 2 damage as well. It's a pass for now. Next attempt to fire nitrous oxide through our engine:
Three of 'em. 3, baby. They take some getting used to. 1st, you have to keep a card in hand [usually a land] for when you top deck this. They do inhabit our 2-cmc slot which is nice. But, if it gets counterspelled, we lose 2 cards which is not nice. They help dispose of duplicate spells in the interest of digging deep, again, nice. Buuuuut, they have 0 impact on the game state, and for a deck that runs no 1-drops and then follows up with nothing more than a loot spell on turn 2??? That's asking for trouble. I can feel my Burn matchup slipping into the loss column.
Grrrrrr. Arrrrgh. I hear MVilla888 in my ear. Magma Jet...Hot, Liquid MaaaagMA. Yeah. And, I hear my own voice in my other ear: Sweltering Suns. Hot, Gaseous Solar Power.
It's true, in this very experimental build, I am trying a deck that has no dedicated creature kill. I think it's too bold, but worth a gander. So, to get back to Caligula's suggestion of Manamorphose, this would be the style of deck where it could be tried...if anyone so dared to hit the Turbo Boost button.
Magma jet is always, always a valued card in this deck. The ability to slow the game down by burning a mana dork or early drop and scry is so good for the deck. Without splashing Islands in the deck, I can't say enough about magma jet.
Tron is tough for the deck...not impossible, but a tough draw. Chalice on 1 to stop their search for lands, Moon to Slow them down, then the key is the win condition, which is why we've experimented with Rabblemaster in the main. In a Tron heavy Meta, I think it works well...in an unknown or Tron light, I think leaving him in the SB is viable.
Have a friend playing no the deck this weekend while I'm out of town. Any thoughts on Trinisphere in the MD as a 1 of?
After a blitzkrieg bout of playtesting, I'm chastened. And, fulfilled. I tried TURBO, and I crashed...a lot. There's simply not enough creature control. I'm definitely glad that I indulged, nonetheless. Every failure is a lesson learned.
Magma Jet is back. And, good juju to Mvilla's buddy taking out RED Prison // Hammer's Slammer for a spin around the block! Win big. Trinisphere...nah, been discussed here a few times: it's just not a Modern card due to our mana constraints.

Have a friend playing no the deck this weekend while I'm out of town. Any thoughts on Trinisphere in the MD as a 1 of?
Magma Jet is back. And, good juju to Mvilla's buddy taking out RED Prison // Hammer's Slammer for a spin around the block! Win big. Trinisphere...nah, been discussed here a few times: it's just not a Modern card due to our mana constraints.
