I defeated a standard GW counters deck (:S), an esper tempo deck (delver/sculler), abzan company, and then lost in the finals to monoblue tron. 7-3 total on games and honestly all 3 losses were mana screw - 2 1-land keeps that failed and one 5-land-1-path keep vs U tron that almost got there. Played a side match against grishoalbrand and won 2-0 as well.
I am really high on ghostly prison in this deck. The classic problem with prison is that eventually you need to deal with their creatures if you want to swing. Allies either grow huge and can only be chump blocked, or a kabira evangel hits the table and you swing through their blockers. How many in the 75 and what mix of MD/SB remains to be seen but I think it will be wrong to play less than 2 in the board.
Suppression field continues to disappoint. Really need to comb through what this card is doing and whether we need it - with spellskite, rest in peace and stony silence available I can't imagine we need even more slots to shore up twin/affinity/melira combo etc. Field has to hit things our other hate cards are not hitting.

ghostly prison is mostly in my sideboard because it really helps against creature decks that also try to outrace this deck. Also it slows down merfolk and elf decks that use Islandwalk and forestwalk (considering we have both of those colors)
Stellar logic. All decks that will ever be tier 1 or 2 have already been discovered. Might as well lock up the forum here and stop brewing everyone. Format solved.

I'm glad I've found this thread. I'm a huge Allies fan and I'm pumped to get some new Allies for Modern in BFZ! Anyway, I wanted to post this list that 4-0'd a daily yesterday. It's pretty sweet!
Niran was the one who piloted this deck to 4-0 yesterday. Thought I would share.
This is by far the best list posted of the deck, and to no surprise the most successful. Niran is a good deck pilot too, so you can trust his results not being a fluke. He 3-1ed a daily too. Local magic shop events are far less competitive, and I live in a competitive area that brings in a lot of players, still it's usually a cake walk.
If you notice, he only has 6 red sources to cast non Ally spells like the ancient grudges and rending volleys which I think is a minor issue. To the guy who said he had trouble when the format was full of Supreme Verdicts, that's what Aether Vials and Collected Companies are for...Also the few off mutavaults...which are actually way better options than Raging Ravine or Treetop Village in an aggro deck can't afford a come into play tapped land during the first few turns, and also only running 22 lands means you can't efficiently utilize man lands like Ravine, Wildwood or Village like you can Mutavault.
I'm skeptical of Kibera, right now there's no better options but vs a lot of key matchups she's dead...Affinity, Tron and for instance how good is Kibera Evangelical vs Red Deck Wins or Splinter Twin, really? Obviously dead vs most Combo decks. Mainly good vs BG/x variants and Merfolk if you need to get through damage. I'm hoping some good value Ally's will be printed so we can have a little tool box for Company rather than just 4 Kibira, 1 Falconer and 1 Entity. Also, it would be great if we got a powerful card exclusive to the Ally theme, to help either make the deck a bit more interactive and or explosive as of right now we're roughly 0.5 to 1 turn slower than Affinity or RDW on average and less interactive than Merfolk.
Still wondering if three or four Companies is the right call and think if they print another good aggressive Ally Staple we may want to cut red altogether.
Lastly to some of you guys choosing to not play Champion of the Parish, why would you not play him?
yeah... I'm gonna have to go ahead and just disagree with you there (Bill Lumbergh voice).
For example, the first grixis snap/command decks to put up results were delver. People started experimenting more with it and now its grixis control that is the top snap/command deck. The first decklist to put up results is rarely the best. I am pretty sure hardened scales is better than aether vial. I am pretty sure ghost quarter is more important than mutavault. I am pretty sure akoum battlesinger is win-more or useless the vast majority of the time.
I should try a falconer - its another out to wurmcoil engines where the evangel won't do much. But I suspect you want to swap 1 evangel for 1 falconer, not add further copies of 3 mana evasion.
And again it can't be stressed enough that tinkering with this deck over the next few weeks is probably a waste of time. We know we're getting more new allies and any day a spoiler could totally change what allies decklists (even colours) are most competitive.

Well, uhh...of course the first list is hardly ever the best final version of a deck...I mean...Obviously. The best version I've seen thus far as a respected deck builder is what I had meant. I myself, implied Akoum Battleslinger could be cut possibly altogether and we could drop a color (but by that same logic obviously add another I just didn't note that). Hahaha, who said add another 3 Falconer? Christ, it should only be a mize and I said of course Kibera has a spot right now as a 4 of, we don't have many other options but I think it's a potential card that could actually be replaced as it's slow and misses vs 50% of the meta.
As for the deck possibly changing any day now with cards being spoiled, again did I not heavily imply to that myself? Maybe it's a waste of time to speculate but you're not shining any light for me by saying that. As for Mutavault vs Ghost Quarter, well...I actually agree that Ghost Quarter is probably one of the best utility lands the deck could use but I'm not sure it's better and could be more of a preference thing since they serve two separate purposes.
As for Hardened Scales vs AEther Vial, hardened scales is an interesting one but with 4of Kibera what makes it good is Aether Vial. If you get stuck on 2 or 3 Lands, Aether Vial saves the day. Don't draw a Cavern, Vial ruins counter magic. Need to play around sweep effects? Vial. Draw too many lands and want to bluff the combat tricks? Vial. Vial accelerates draws, Scales can decelerate draws. However Scales is better in multiples where Vial becomes worse and there are draws where Scales can do more but I also think Vial is probably just fundamentally better for the deck and if we get more quality allies except they don't themselves have the +1+1 counter ability it makes Scales less consistent and even worse.
Abzan allies could be good because black adds Bojuka Brigand and abrupt decay.
Yeah, but brigand is worse than battleslinger. Its a bad Oran-Rief, which is the first thing I am looking to cut from the deck come Battle for Zendikar

have to disagree here, because battlesinger has 1 toughness, meaning it dies to literally everything. While yes, Brigand can't block, you really don't want to block with this deck.
As for the survivalist, he should really only be cut if a better 2-drop is printed. With hardened scales out.... You have pretty much won.

As I see it, Survivalist is one of the core cards of the deck, along with Hada and Blademaster. The reason, he is the best 2 drop after Blademaster and also he is green, which is a color that most of the lists run already. On the other hand, Battlesinger is a flex spot. Her role is to give the deck more explosiveness by attacking for a lot the turn she comes into play. If you don't want to be that agressive, it is better to play other 2cmc allies such as shapeshifter or brigand.
@Jacketboi: Do you think decay would be better than bolt, path, simic charm or boros charm?

I honestly don't know, I've only tried decay and path, but they have worked out for me. Boros Charm seems good though.
Some recent result from mtggoldfish. For now naya seems the way to go. Can't wait for the rest of the spoilers, we really need more cmc 1-2 guys or value allies.

Idk man splashing red for Akoum Battlesinger does not really seem worth it. Yes the effect is decent, however the +1/+0 goes away and in all honesty the best part about allies is that while they are strong together, if one of them dies they remain strong and don't get weaker like elves and merfolk do. Jwari Shapeshifter can turn into another hada freeblade or Kazandu Blademaster meaning you can technically more than 4 of which is nice, considering they are the best allies. One thing I did like about rps1224's deck was the mutavaults. In bant that would help really well with Halimar Excavator's milling.

I also like shapeshifter more than battlesinger, because of the reasons that you mentioned. All in all, battlesinger's merits should be acknowledged. Her effect is very powerful, but requires a more aggresive build. The bad thing about her is that you have to play company before atacking in order to make a good use of her. I guess it depends on playstyle.
The effect still goes away, I mean ramosgay said it requires a more aggressive strategy to make use of Akoum Battlesinger. This is not necessarily a bad thing, however it is where my issue with Naya really lies in this deck. Given its modern and you do want to win fast and not sit around (given the huge amount of hard removal), however I feel while battlesinger makes this deck quicker, the blue allies increase the versatility and overall strength as well, at the price of some tempo. This being said I think everyone should just be waiting for BfZ because that is going to determine which colors get the play. If there is another 1 cmc like Hada Freeblade in like black, I know I will most likely try to force that color for testing at the very least.
Stellar logic. All decks that will ever be tier 1 or 2 have already been discovered. Might as well lock up the forum here and stop brewing everyone. Format solved.
Yeah, that combo got debunked earlier in the thread.
From what I saw, it was debunked because the Mirror Entity activation cost would kill everything.
I didn't also see that it was debunked because the Turntimber Ranger ability checks as it triggers, not on resolution or whatever, it wasn't that clear.
So these spoilers have really geared my interest towards Ally CoCo (Previously Elf CoCo player), the decks play similar enough with what seems like Allies being a bit more resilient. Additionally with these new spoilers it seems like Allies are getting much more love than Elves and very well may surpass them.
I think the difference is that coc elves plays more like a combo deck, needing a couple specific cards to appear so they can overrun you. Any of about 12-16 individual allies can grow to be finishers, with support from others. That means you can't wait for Ezuri or heritage druid and bolt them. Hada freeblade can hit like a wurmcoil on turn 3 or 4. Pretty efficient.

Really? None of these allies look modern viable. They are all 4+ which means they are not really useful when it comes to CoCo.
Veteran Warleader is the only 3 drop and I wouldn't cut any of the older allies for him. I really hope wizards is just holding out, but it looks like BfZ is going to focus on the eldrazi and kind of forget about allies

We're only 1/3 the way through spoilers and there are already 8 allies. I think it's safe to say at this point the tribe is pretty well supported in BfZ.
Now let's hope it goes from "supported" to "pushed" and doesn't fall short like the recent tribal disappointments of werewolves and slivers.

My feelings exactly. We're at 11 ally cards spoiled - 8 of them cost 4 or more (you should count the UG one here since you can't coco it). We might have room in coco allies for 2 4-drops and at least one of them should probably be gideon.
we have NONE at 1 or 2 cmc yet which is frightening. They may do the ultimate troll and give us very little on the cheap end, expecting limited/standard players to cast normal creatures on turn 1-2 and then start hitting rally triggers to buff them.
Lantern guide will be played in modern and will replace some mix of cleric/paladin. Veteran warleader I don't see it - the deck's advantage is that if you kill some allies the others stick around and keep growing, warleader does the opposite and shrinks as the other allies disappear. And the vampire is nothing we want in this deck - wrong colours, not even a human (Can't run champion) and doesn't grow.
Lots of time left but so far its been pretty frustrating to see the onslaught of 4-5 cmc allies.
