Thanks Luca. I've tried to make Angelic Accord work in various ways and it never seems to be worth it. Maybe it's a possible 2ndary win condition in a Martyr of Sands deck but that's about all I can come up with. Gaining life isn't so bad if you can profit from it.
I haven't looked at the Chord/Token/Gavony deck in a bit. I've been distracted by Mono-Enchantments and a busy schedule. Waiting to get the 4th Chord. I prefer to table top brew with the cards in front of me. But I'm glad you think it has promise, I'll get back to it.
You Go Bigger version: When you're doing the Utopia/Arbor Elf thing I think you want more Garruk Wildspeaker so you can get the nuts T2 Garruk, untap then Blade Splicer. I think Fertile Ground might be better than Overgrowth because you want that ramp earlier. Getting to 4 mana on turn 3 seems to be where the deck wants to be with Restoration Angel, Garruk and Advent of the Wurm.
I think you need the full 4 Blade Splicer. +2 Splicer, -2 Armada Wurm. Armada Wurm is super powerful but you're not always going to hit your ramp and six is challenging in Modern. Blade Splicer ensures you have board presence on Turn 3 and comes down turn 2 with your 9 pieces of Turn 1 Acceleration.
I know you guys love Scion but he seems a bit win more. I'd drop the Scions and go +1 Restoration Angel, +2 Garruk Wildspeaker OR Keep Scion and drop Armada Wurm.
Maybe go -1 or 2 Fertile Ground (was Overgrowth) for +1 Advent of the Wurm, +1 Hunter's Insight or +1 Hamonize.
This deck is pure mid-range and it's hard to beat control/combo with these cards. Voice of Ressurgance is still one of the best GW cards...
Oh the Leap ideia on the "Go Wide!" version is pretty cool. Helps triggering Bunrei and digs our deck for bigger threats.
Concerning the "Go Bigger" plan, I'm not a huge fan of overloading the deck with ramp. The problem is that you need a good mix of ramp stuff and bombs, and when this doesn't happen the game gets a bit hard for us. Also, even when we get huge amounts of mana, it's not as if we were deploying instant win threats like other decks that commit their first turns to just ramp, like Tron or Gx Devotion. But that's just a random thought of someone who hasn't play the list, so if it's working for you, go for it! I believe the Restoration + Scion package can be very good against fair decks anyway.
Btw, have you considered Hangarback Walker for the deck? I'm not sure it can do much in a place so full of Path to Exile, but it is a great card against most of other removals.
Since you're playing Restoration Angel, wouldn't it be nice to add some Wall of Omens? (and maybe more Blade Splicers)
It stops early attackers and replaces itself by drawing a card, so it helps you reach the mid-late game where you'll be able to deploy your huge token makers.
Also, I've been thinking about whether or not to include Intangible Virtue on the deck. We can't take as much value from it as the BW tokens deck (or the "Go wide" version) but it is still pretty relevant. Our biggest creature is usually the 5/5 Wurm. With the extra power it can kill and survive Gurmag Angler (which is often the biggest creature in the format)
I guess the Wall's function is to help you get to that point on the game where you can cast the creatures you really want to flicker with the Angel. Also, it gives you more options for that time you draw the angel but not the Armada Wurm or Thragtusk. But I guess it is more for UW Control/Midrange thand Selesnya Tokens.
About Joraga Treespeaker, it may work, I guess it depends a bit on your list and what do you wanna do.
A regular mana Dork produces one extra mana from the turn after it is played.
A single dork played on turn 1 (assuming you don't miss land drops) allows you to cast these total CMC spells:
T1: 1CMC
T2: 3CMC
T3: 4CMC
T4: 5CMC
T5: 6CMC
If you manage to play a second one on turn 2, for instance, you would get
T1: 1CMC
T2: 3CMC
T3: 5CMC
T4: 6CMC
Joraga Treespeaker adds no mana the turn after he's played (you need to pay 2 mana to get 2 mana), but adds 2 extra mana 2 turns later.
T1: 1CMC
T2: 2CMC
T3: 5CMC
T4: 6CMC
Assuming a second one on turn 2
T1: 1CMC
T2: 2CMC
T3: 5CMC
T3: 8CMC
It allows you to play your 5CMC, 6CMC faster, but you probably won't get relevant plays till turn 3-4.
It is important to note that it produces double green on turn 2, so you can't play Voice of Resurgence on turn 2.
He's not my favorite mana dork, but since this "Go Bigger" version focus on the 5CMC and 6CMC, it might work well.
I guess the best options for most version is still Noble Hierarch. However this comes with a price, a very high one, literally speaking. I use him when testing on Magic Workstation, but my budget option at the moment is Avacyn's Pilgrim. However I'm still on that list playing Call of the Conclave and usually topping the curve on 5CMC with Scion of Vitu-Ghazi.
Btw, since you're playing so much ramp, 1 or 2 copies of Entreat the Angels probably wouldn't hurt. It can win you games where victory seemed unlikely.
OK, having seen what this can do, I decided to try this kind of deck. One problem: I don't run G/W very often, so I kinda just grab what looks good and toss it in. So looking at the deck, I'm debating whether I should stick with G/W or add black, since I actually know my way around it. Any ideas?
I just realized I haven't post my list yet. I used it on MWS so I tried to optmize it. If I go to paper I'd probably have to make some budget adjustments like cutting Noble Hierarch.
Here's how it is currently looking like.
So I think I would change Raise the Alarm for Secure the Wastes. With all the mana dorks, the payoff is the same in the beginning, but in the late game it can be a blowout.
1. I wonder if Cryptolith Rite wouldn't be a better idea to ramp for Gavony Township instead of the mana dorks.
It would also work well with Intangible Virtue which would also be good here.
2. If we follow the Elves/Green Devotion line of thought some "Overrun" type finisher can also be a good idea
Something like: Craterhoof Behemoth or Overrun itself.
3. With mana ramp Hour of Reckoning can be a pretty good one-sided wrath in this deck in my opinion.
First off, B/W Tokens was my very first casual deck then modern deck, so tokens has a special place in my heart.
Your list definitely looks spicy. I may have to try it out.
The thing that made Matt Ness' list so good was the explosive starts that the mana-dorks brought. Mana-dorks, Nissa, and Township is what I believe makes the G/W verion far better than the B/W Tokens build. The Townships also turns those dorks into threats later on in the game.
As far as Westvale Abbey...I love that card and I want to make it work, but it seems like a win-more card.
Anyway, this is all theory right now as I'm building the deck and haven't played it yet. When I start to get games under my belt, I can make better assumptions.
I hope more people pick this deck up because its pretty sweet!

The newly printed Collective Effort seems rather good for this deck, not sure if in the mainboard or SB though. Emrakul's Evangel can be rather interesting as well.
Not really as I have been focusing on playing a Traverse Jund deck for the Modern PPTQ Season. I do plan on acquiring Gideon and Nissa soon. I just need those and Verdant Catacombs to make this deck work. Hopefully in September my focus will turn to this deck and will start serious testing. Anyway, I think Kaledash will bring some token love for us.
Token generators
4xScion of Vithu-Ghazi
4xGiant Baiting strong 3 drop that I am surprised is not considered fot "Go Big" tokens in any blog I have read. Forget the R... this thing is G. Try using the "Mana dudes and green bodies"

4xGrove of the Guardian Yes 4 is nice

4xIntangible Virtue Oh this followed by a third turn Giant Baiting hitting with a 5/5 haste vigilance token is pretty unfair
Sram's Expertise really is a must include in any token deck. It's just SO much velocity. Dropping a Sram's and a Nissa or Virtue, or a Beck//Call or something is just such a ridiculous play. Lately I've been thinking the Sorins should be switched over to Solemn Visitors, and the SoLS should be changed to Sword of Feast and Famine, or maybe just a second Fire and Ice, but the deck overall is just really, really strong. Hour of Reckoning is amazing. Convoke makes it easy to cast (it's zero mana off of a resolved Sram's+B//C). The sideboard is for combo and control decks with either mass removal or lots of nonland permanents that present a problem.
On Beck//Call - the card is surprisingly easy to get value out of. Beck + Lingering Souls flashback is four mana for two tokens and two cards. If you have a walker out, that goes up to 3 cards. Birds and Cobras are also easy ways to push up your number of cards drawn. Call is also a great, great choice to put under windbrisk heights. With the presence of the Cobras and Birds, 6 or 8 mana also isn't that hard to get to. With a great hand this deck can easily swing for 30+ damage on turn 4, while cards like the Swords and Jaces and BC's and 'Walkers really give you a nice long game too.
Bant Eldrazi is basically unwinnable though, so it's not like the deck is perfect or anything. Hour of Reckoning is pretty much your only hope there.
I love this thread as I got really into custom tokens during the Return to Ravnica Standard. I am rebuilding a fun Selesnya Tokens deck.
With all the discussion about a 3-drop. Where is the love for Loxodon Smiter? He was a beast in Standard, no good now?
There are a lot of a great creatures that synergize well with a tokens build. The problem, however, is that the whole point of tokens is to blank your opponent's spot removal. As soon as you introduce a few creatures into your deck, they're going to become lightning rods for the 6-8 removal spells that had previously been sitting uselessly in your opponents hand. For that reason, the only creature I would really consider would be Voice of Resurgence, since it's supposed to die anyways.
The problem with Itlimoc is that it searches for creatures, which doesnt really help, and it starts dumping green mana at you, which we don't necessarily optimize well.
But it occurred to me what focused on Tempered Steel instead of Muraganda Petroglyphs, and made it an artifact token deck? Sram's Expertise>Itlimoc>Chord of Calling>Verdurous Gearhulk on turn 3 seems quite potent.
Feels like to me this deck isn't far off from being playable. I'd splash black for lingering souls and run Ajani Goldmane as the PW of choice. His life gain is almost nothing, but his -1 every turn is where it shines through. Kinda acts as a cumulative virtue.... And if you can ever populate his token...

What do you all think?
Here are my ideas for this type of deck:

3. With mana ramp Hour of Reckoning can be a pretty good one-sided wrath in this deck in my opinion.
Secure the Wastes can also be good here.
4. Also, why no Westvale Abbey in this deck ?
It seems perfect for this type of deck.
Here is how I would build this:
4x Path to Exile
4x Raise the Alarm
4x Secure the Wastes
Sorcery (8)
4x Lingering Souls
4x Spectral Procession
Enchantment (8)
4x Cryptolith Rite
4x Intangible Virtue
Planeswalker (7)
3x Gideon, Ally of Zendikar
4x Nissa, Voice of Zendikar
2x Craterhoof Behemoth

2x Forest
3x Gavony Township

4x Plains
4x Razorverge Thicket
4x Temple Garden
4x Windswept Heath

The newly printed Collective Effort seems rather good for this deck, not sure if in the mainboard or SB though.
Emrakul's Evangel can be rather interesting as well.

The 2x Runed Halo in the maindeck seem rather surprising.
And also Heroes' Reunion in the SB (I'm sure that there are better cards against Burn).
I came up with this idea.
Mana dudes and green bodies
4xBirds of Paradise
4xSylvan Caryatid

1xTrostani, Selesnya's Voice
3xThragtusk

Draw & sustain surprise
4xShamanic Revelation Because... why not? Giant Baiting, Advent of the Wurm, Grove of the Guardian, Scion of Vithu-Ghazi and Thragtusk have more than 4 power. And you should always have a pretty decent board presence.
Budget mana base
9xForest
4xGraypelt Refuge
3xPlains
4xSunpetal Grove
This deck is pretty consistent in reaching the 5 Mana level
Costs about $65
Hope this idea helps others.

The better options are:
1. Planeswalkers - mainly Gideon, Ally of Zendikar and Nissa, Voice of Zendikar
(and to a lesser degree Elspeth, Knight-Errant and Garruk Wildspeaker).
2. Spells like: Lingering Souls, Secure the Wastes, Timely Reinforcements, Spectral Procession and Promise of Bunrei (or weaker versions like Raise the Alarm, Gather the Townsfolk and Midnight Haunting).
4x Birds of Paradise
4x Lotus Cobra
2x Jace, Vryn's Prodigy

With all the discussion about a 3-drop. Where is the love for Loxodon Smiter? He was a beast in Standard, no good now?
The best 3-drop's for the deck imho are: Nissa, Voice of Zendikar, Lingering Souls (with a small black splash) and Spectral Procession.
I'm waiting for Nissa and Gideon to rotate out of Standard to build this deck as they're a bit on the pricy end at the moment.
This suggests that a properly optimized deck can be pretty good.
I was doing some thinking about adding Growing Rites of Itlimoc, Sram's Expertise to that janky Goldfish G/W deck.
2 Increasing Devotion
4 Path to Exile
4 Raise the Alarm
2 Secure the Wastes
4 Sram's Expertise
3 Growing Rites of Itlimoc
2 Intangible Virtue
2 Muraganda Petroglyphs
2 Promise of Bunrei
5 Forest
3 Gavony Township
5 Plains
3 Sunpetal Grove
2 Temple Garden
4 Windswept Heath
2 Gideon, Ally of Zendikar
3 Nissa, Voice of Zendikar
4 Gather the Townsfolk
The problem with Itlimoc is that it searches for creatures, which doesnt really help, and it starts dumping green mana at you, which we don't necessarily optimize well.
But it occurred to me what focused on Tempered Steel instead of Muraganda Petroglyphs, and made it an artifact token deck? Sram's Expertise>Itlimoc>Chord of Calling>Verdurous Gearhulk on turn 3 seems quite potent.
3 Arcbound Ravager
1 Etched Champion
2 Hangarback Walker
1 Memnite
4 Ornithopter
3 Steel Overseer
1 Verdurous Gearhulk
2 Walking Ballista
4 Tempered Steel
3 Growing Rites of Itlimoc
Spells
3 Chord of Calling
4 Servo Exhibition
4 Sram's Expertise
4 Chrome Mox
4 Springleaf Drum
Land
17 Land
I also like Garruk that can add more tokens or just overrun for the win.
Splashing black for Lingering Souls is definetly worth it.
