and lots of hand hate
go ham attacking people with bridge and 0 cards in hand. I saw someone do this with a doran deck a few years ago was pretty funny
Maybe I don't understand something: anybody can explain to me how deck can be infinite for mana and drawing with the Staff of Domination, Overgrown Battlement and some other two defenders on the table (Sylvan Caryatid, Axebane Guardian for ex)?
Where is infinity?
Just thought I'd drop this here, as I've been workin on this deck for a bit.
This is my current list. It can beat most of the top tier decks in the format, but still needs some testing and tuning.
All the games felt close, and I feel like it can be a competitive deck with some tuning.
(Tested against: Affinity, Tron, GBx, Twin, LittleAbzan, Soul Sisters and UWR mostly)
I haven't tested with Tower Defense yet but I can see why it might be worth it. +5 to your team is a massive boost, making any two unblocked attackers basically lethal with one of the P/T flip pieces out. There are many openings in which Tower Defense could yield turn 4 kills through minor disruption of some sort.
Yeah tower defense is great in game 1, where you just surprise kill people out of nowhere, it's usually boarded out game 2/3 for hate etc. 2 mana for +5/+5 to the team is crazy good..
The 1 drops were chosen because they are fast and resilient to bolts, with the exception of the treefolk, which lets you run less dorans, fix your mana, and run 4x of the fetchable tripple land!
In the games where you either lose doran/formation or dont draw it right away, then the bridges gives you time untill you can run them over with your 1 mana 4/4s and 5/5s.
Maindeck spellskite is of course really great against many decks as well, and just a superb creature in this deck.
And you sometimes have the aggressive 1 drop, into double 1 drop into doran hands which can kill t4 easily.
Like your list but how come you don't play the full 4-ofs Doran and Formation? They're your one and only wincon
Because Treefolk Harbinger fetches doran, and he is legendary.. You usually get the ones you need and you don't want multiple clunky 3 drop legendaries in your hand. Same with Assault formation, the 2nd one does nothing.. Might be that that you want 4 in some matchups though, but it's been fine with 3 so far.
Works pretty well for me.. Collected company helps with getting the 4 other wall and mana creating wall to start the staff combo.. Not yet come up with the sideboard.. Thinking of the possibility of a "transformer" sort of sideboard that can totally turn the deck into another deck.. A big butt deck into a GW dragon deck maybe?

I am tuning up a very similar deck. I used to run 4 doran and 2 AF, but I have since actually gone to 7 copies. As others have said, if you can't find one you are in a bad position. At the same time Harbinger is a dead card if you already have a doran. I have mixed things up a bit in my deck with Dungrove Elder which is fetchable, allows for dropping untapped Bosk and is a late game win condition that can make Goyf sad. He also doesn't need AF or Doran to win you the game. I also run 3x Rhino's because well, it is an amazing card that can win games and help stabilize you.
I haven't test out Ensnaring Bridge. How has that been working for you? At least it my testing I feel like I generally want to be swinging out on Turn 3 and 4 to win the game. My ideal turn sequence looks like this: Harbinger-->Spellskite-->Doran, swing for 7-->Swing for 12 game? I realize you have more one drops that this so you can change things up. Also, check out Skinshifter he is a boss. If people aren't careful he swings for 8, blocks the biggest fatties and can trample through tokens.
I like the watchtower btw, I might have to find a way to squeeze that in.

Treefolk Harbinger also fetch Murmuring Bosk for very nice mana fixing. He can get you any color and you only need 1 land for a keepable hand. They have proven to be great. They are often 3/3's for 1 that fetch your win con or fix your mana.
I was playing with the idea of more treefolk, like Dungrove Elder, but he doesn't play well with ensnaring bridge, and I want to play those in main.
You have to ask yourself, if you are just playing rhino's and Elders etc, why you are not simply playing Abzan? Goyfs and Rhinos are are always good creatures that don't need help to be good.
The ability for only you to be able to attack through an ensnaring bridge and not your opponents is one of the strengths of the deck. The 1/5 lands are also great, as you can just keep the card you drew in hand, attack, then play it.
You have to do something different to not just be a worse version of the normal Abzan modern deck.
I think Dungrove Elder is a cool card against control and similar, and can be a real surprise for them game 2/3 out of the side. Though you do have to warp your mana base a bit and play mostly forests.
Skinshifter is fine, but he dies to bolt in response to the activation, and I've tried to make Lightning Bolt and Lightning Helix bad against the deck. The exception are the Treefolk Harbinger's, but they bring you value no matter what usually. I did think about him when playing, and maybe he needs some more testing.
The problem with the deck isn't attacking with big enough creatures though, they are usually bigger and cheaper than what the opponent is doing. I'd rather make bolts bad and block well untill I can win out of nowhere. Just be aware of someone removing your creature/enchantment mid combat.
And your "ideal scenario" simply happens rarely, and only in game 1's. Be prapared for opponent interaction. Sometimes they will kill your win cons, and ensnaring bridge is what buys you the time you need etc.
I personally think it's quite important to run cantrips in this deck, especially as such cheap, effecient wall cantrips exist. Sylvan Caryatid and Wall of Omens both block lots of things and Caryatid kill Goyfs and Siege Rhinos with the toughness effect, with cantripping cheaper cards...
EDIT: Oh uh, didn't mean the mana Sylvan. Meant that defender cantripping one.
Seems odd to me no one thought of good old Ornithopter.
Ornithopter is a weak card here. Sure it is free, but it is a dead card unless you have doran or AF in play. In affinity it is a much better card as it interacts with the deck in so many other ways. In affinity it turns on metal-craft, can be a sac target for arc-bound, it can be used with cranial plating, it can keep glimmervoid around, etc. In this deck it is either a chump blocker or a weak, conditional flyer.

No idea because my favorite decks keep getting banned or having the rules changed against them
The deck I'm playing can attack through an ensnaring bridge:) I've replaced the nyx fleece rams with skinshifter now. He has value without assault formation and can attack as an 8/8, which is cool:)
But now I need some lifegain against burn in side I guess..

Put Leyline of Sanctity in the sideboard. I'm testing out running a couple Gideon Jura as the top-end of the curve. Opponents don't usually see it coming and his +2 just wrecks. Being able to kill a tapped creature is extra icing.
I agree that BoP could block if needed, but there won't be many time where it really helps you. Apostle's blessing or Twisted Image will just clear the way. Also if your birds don't have an Assault Formation out they will just die, and without ramp we will be too slow anyways for Infect.
The other deck playing them is Affinity, for which your list is well prepared, so we should probably just not bother too much about Infect.
I can't give you much advice about sideboard, as I don't know what kind of metagame you'll expect at your FNM. I know mine will be full of Junk and aggro, so I'll be cutting the Nevermores and Choke. Haven't decided yet but some Timely Reinforcements / Dromoka's Command / Beast Within should take their place.
Anyway, can't wait to test this deck! And don't forget to take notes at your FNM !

Where is infinity?
Tap Battlement for 5 mana
Use Staff's 3-mana ability, untap Battlement
Use Staff's 1-mana ability, untap itself
Result: you gain 1 mana. Repeat for infinite mana, then use the 2- or 5-mana ability, untap, etc. for infinite life/cards.
