Yeah These new cards are really making a splash. The new Teferi and the new Narset are a pain in the butt to play against. I used to love my control matchup, but it definitely got a little harder post board. I am going to do some testing today since the meta has shifted so much. It's will be interesting to see the new cards spoiled today and how modern horizons will affect modern.
Flusterstorm will definitely be a great sideboard option for us to have. It isn't a must have all the time, but when it is good in the meta it will be very good.
I have been playing against Neoform and I think they may have to do something about the deck in the long run especially if they implement the mulligan london rule. It consistently goes off on turn 2 and 3 (and sometimes turn 1). We actually have a decent matchup against the deck because it is very glass cannon so if you have a well timed spell pierce, spell snare, or dovin's veto you basically win, but the problem is you have to have it by turn 2. I am interested to see how this deck continues to evolve.
Karn the great creator is really making a huge splash. I don't mind this card because it takes a decent amount of mana to really combo off. My brother is pumped about it because he plays green devotion.
I have not tried teferi or narset yet in the sideboard. I recently added [a]Abrade[/c] to my maindeck which opened up a slot. I will probably add teferi to my board. I will let you know.
I just looked on mtggoldfish and the geek rage tournament has two eldrazi tron decks in the top 10 with 4 karn the creator and the tool box sideboard. Just as I suspected

Hey guys so lets say you spell quell a creature on opponents turn. Your turn you play teferi time reveler and attack in with queller. If quller is blocked and dies what happens to the creature that you quelled? does it stay exiled or what?

Hey guys so lets say you spell quell a creature on opponents turn. Your turn you play teferi time reveler and attack in with queller. If quller is blocked and dies what happens to the creature that you quelled? does it stay exiled or what?
Interesting question. The Queller FAQ says
If the player casts the exiled card, they do so as part of the resolution of Spell Queller’s last ability. The player can’t wait to cast it later in the turn. Timing permissions based on the card’s type are ignored, but other restrictions (such as “Cast [this card] only during combat”) are not.
but when I googled the interaction of these two cards I found this rule:
101.2. When a rule or effect allows or directs something to happen, and another effect states that it can't happen, the "can't" effect takes precedence.
So Queller allows you to cast at instant speed but Teferi forbids it and thanks to rule 101.2 Teferi wins and the exiled spell stays exiled.
I can't really see how Pact of Negation is good in our deck because card disadvantage really hurts us. That's why our deck mulligans pretty badly and that's why none of us is playing Disrupting Shoal in their deck. A card like the new Pact only works well when you have a lot of card draw effects. I can totally see it in a deck with the new Narset+Day's Undoing. Playing Geist turn 3 and still being able to counter your opponent's Liliana of course seems very strong but card disadvantage really hurts against GB Rock & Jund, so even countering that Liliana would not guarantee a win.
And you'd need to have 1UU open to counter a Settle the Wreckage or Terminus during your turn, which is pretty expensive.
I have to agree Im not at all excited about force of negation. And its starting to look like WoTC focused alot on drafting with this set at least in my opinion which is such a big mistake on their part. I already see some pretty useless cards from the spoilers and that means they made unplayable cards that wont ever see the light of day apart from draft. such a waste of time and money. They should have just focused on modern and forgotten about draft entirely. But i guess we’ll see what happens I am however disappointed in the set thus far.
Even if fluster storm and that new gold land are good this is a modern only set there should be so so many good cards to be seen hopefully.

I sometimes forget that there are so many different styles on this forum. This card fits best into a more tempo oriented build, but also works extremely well against quick combo. I think it will be a sideboard mainstay and will also make the maindeck in a lot of Ux decks. In my deck specifically it works well in theory. With Bedlam Reveler, Snapcaster Mage, and Chandra, Fire Artisan I re-coup of lot my card advantage later in the game. Getting early tempo and getting ahead on board is extremely important, especially in certain matchups. At least for my deck. It does not fit well into midrange builds though as you said.
I haven't tested the card so I am basing it on theory at this point. I also haven't really evaluated the card based on worst case scenarios like having to counter Settle the Wreckage or Terminus because we still have access to Negate, Spell Pierce, Dovin's veto, dispel, etc. I just look at overall affect of the card. With modern being so linear this card seems to fit aggro control very well. It works extremely well with Jace, the mind sculptor too so control will probably like it.
I will be testing the card all of this week to see how it does. I don't think it will change the modern format completely, but I do think that this card will make a decent splash in Ux decks.
It will be interesting to see if they do snow covered dual lands in this set. Also I still have my fingers crossed for an awesome UR model spell and Containment Priest.
Isnt there a blue merfolk card thr is essentially a containment priest??
There is in a sense- Merfolk Mistcaller. However, it only works once it's sacrificed and doesn't have flash. It's still a good sideboard card, but containment priest catches them after they have spent the mana and sticks around.
These lands will be so good! Fiery Islet & Sunbaked Canyon are auto-includes in my 21 land version.
I just wonder at which price I should buy them. Cheapest online atm is 20 Euros for Islet and I think that's very good. I expect the price to go up. What do you guys think?

I always pre-order as quickly as I can. I order 3 of the UR and 2 of the RW at $19.99. They were a little more pricey than I thought they would start. I thought they would start at $14.99. Now they are $34.99 on Star City so I'm glad I purchased right away. I think these will keep a $20+ price range for the foreseeable future because they have only ever been printed once and because they will see play in modern and EDH.
I do think these are an auto include in our deck and even better in the 20+ land decks. It will be nice to know that when you get to 4-5 lands we can basically stop there with Faithless looting and now these lands. I am so pumped for this set.
Now all we need is an efficient 1 drop in our colors and a good model spell and we are set!
I am going to test out the following land bases to see what I like/dislike about them. I will likely go up to 20 lands at 61 cards and see how it goes as well.
On another note, I thought of a card I would LOVE to see. Here it is:
Guileful Sparkmage
R
Creature- Human Wizard
Flash
Prowess
1/1.
This creature would be awesome. It would allow you to hold up counter magic on turn 1, but still land a threat. I don't think it could have flying or any evasion because it would be too strong. What do you think?
No posts about Giver of Runes yet?
This seems like a perfect 1 drop to protect Delver and to make Geist unblockable. In my deck I might try cutting Lavamancer and Blackblade (already) to add 2x Giver of Runes. Then my threats would look like this:
4 Delver of Secrets
2 Giver of Runes
2 Young Pyromancer
3 Snapcaster Mage
3 Geist of Saint Traft
1 Gideon of the Trials
1 CMC4 Walker
Elspeth, Knight-Errant/Chandra, Chandra, Fire Artisan/Nahiri, the Harbinger
They're all so good but I don't know which other threat to cut to use two of these three... -_-

That card is awesome and really well designed. A fixed Mother of Runes is going to be awesome in modern. I did think about testing 1 or two copies and I will definitely be giving it a try. My only worry is that it may be two slow or not impactful enough in some matchups. However, without testing I can't say for sure.
Hi guys I got this I think quite interesting thought that I came up with when I was showering. I thought about our worst match up martyr proc and how bad our delvers are in late game when we draw them. So the idea is that we could run a Ranger of Eos in the sideboard against some grindy match ups like GB rock or jund. You draw 2 cards with Ranger of Eos and filter delvers to draw something better. What do you guys think about this idea?

I'm actually not sure. It seems to cute on paper, but I haven't played against Martyr Proc in a long long time. So if Martyr proc is a deck you see every week you will have to have some weird sideboard tech for it in your sideboard. I honestly have no idea because I have never played that card and don't play the matchup much. Anyone have more experience.
Post-Horizons update from me. Rather than continuing to retool an outdated 2015 Geist deck, I'm going back to my roots on this forum with my own take on Lightning Angel/Geist beatdown. Note: This is the deck post-Modern Horizons. Cards in parentheses represent the pre-MH1 card choices.
Questions for you all:
1. Is Grim Lavamancer the most optimal card in that specific flex slot? If not, what other cards might you suggest there?
2. Unsubstantiate or Remand? I like Unsubstantiate personally, but I might want Remand because of the cantrip.
3. Will the Canopy lands help or hurt my mana base, as it stands now? I can't decide as of now.
4. Overall, does this list seem less clunky than my previous one with the 4 Planeswalkers and Restoration Angels?
Just some quick thoughts regarding MH from my point of few. At first I was not really excited about any of the cards they spoiled but I love the creativity and thought wizards put into this product so far. There are throwbacks, just well designed new cards and cards that are somewhat existent already, but powered down to not straight up destroy modern as a whole, but shake things up quite a bit.
After seeing the new Force of Negation and Giver of Runes, plus the Ranger-Captain of Eos I think its time for a resurgence of a straight up delver geist list, with just a few burn spells to finish the job.
For quite some time I havent posted anything in here, thats because modern wasnt that appealing in the last few months, I just could not motivate myself to play modern, but with the new set coming out, I am going to play a fair bit of modern for sure!
A few months back I decided for myself that Geist sadly wasnt good anymore and shifted to crackling drakes and streamlined my deck to 90% playsets to support my 2 Pyromancer Ascension, which worked out extremely well and I love how the deck play out. However, I still miss geist, so with the cards I mentioned earlier especially Stepmom Geist could become a monster once again.
I would focus the build on Geist, and Delver, only splashing red for a few sideboard cards, a playset of bolts and maybe some amount of helix.
Ranger-Captain of eos would be a way to tutor stepmom and cards like grim lavamancer, or even delver. The second ability is just icing on the cake. Prohibit could be an excellent card as well.
With Teferi, time Raveler and Spell Quellerin the mix this deck could become not just good, but even suppressiv, and I quite like the thought off not being on the receiving end of suppression

I tested a little last night against control with two copies of Force of Negation in my deck as well as two copies of Fiery Islet and one Sunbaked Canyon. I haven't tried Giver of Runes yet. The lands did exactly what I thought they would do. They are extremely good in our deck and allows us to never really flood out which is death for our deck. These will help a lot. Force of Negation played very well as well. I think I will remove 1 spell pierce and 1 faithless looting, but I am not sure yet. I did notice that on several occasions I was able to cast FON for three mana and it worked well. With that said, I was against control. One thing I did notice is that Spell Queller along with FON was a good combo. You can queller a spell and protect it if they try to answer back with an instant. It will obviously take a lot more testing, but I was very happy with the new cards so far.
I haven't tested Giver of Runes yet, but in a Geist build she will be awesome. I am currently only running 1 copy of Geist which will likely become two copies because he plays well with FON. I will definitely test Giver of Runes in my open flex slot.
I think you hit the nail on the head when you basically said it's good to go back to the basics with delver, geist, and burn spells and go from there. It's always good to simplify the plan and then build from there. I can't wait to see what you come up with. I will keep you all posted on what I find out as well. I would really love some type of one drop creature that could take the place of Monastery Swiftspear or could be in addition to swiftspear.
Mr Wichard- It always feels great to beat up on combo decks. They are the bad guys and we are the good guys so everyone loves when the good guy wins!
Goyftomcat- I think Grim Lavamancer is a great flex option at the 1 drop slot. Especially for the decks that run a slightly more midrange plan like those which play multiple planeswalkers. I think Mantis Rider might just be better than lightning angel right now because there aren't a ton of bolts running around, but I personally love Lightning Angel so I know how awesome it is to play that card. Also Restoration Angel might be more flexable as well.
I would probably split with 2 Remand and 2 Unsubstantiate. I don't think you want a full 4 unsubstantiate unless you can kill them rather quickly. I would try a split first.
We have another card to try out as well- Archmage's Charm. It's not the model spell I was hoping for but it's a model spell non the less. The casting cost can be tough if you run a lot of white, but the decks that are solid UR with a splash can probably cast it regularly since we are a base blue deck. I am most excited about the draw two cards option.

Good to hear from you Mazeron. I do think the upcoming meta will be a great time to be playing jeskai delver. Although I am an eternal optimist. I agree that Geist and Spell Queller are going to get much better. This is especially true if UW control picks up as much as I think it will.
I haven't be able to test stepmom yet, but I assume she is great in a deck with 4 geist. I have been trying a one of copy of baby teferi so I will let you guys know how that goes.
Ive been super busy lately so havent been able to play until just recently. I've been tweaking my deck accordingly however and making space for some of these spoilers but I havent been able to post much about gameplay or my current list. Ive made some adjustments to the sideboard and plan to make a few small tweaks to the main board.
Creature package
pretty standard tempo package with only 2 geist. I feel more is a little bit cumbersome though there are times where they are necessary.
Removal Package
Pretty standard removal package I think 1 drops should be maximized here and taper off as you go up in cost for obvious reasons but mainly bc i hate Thalia.
Control/Cantrip Package
I run a 2/2 split with peek and SV I like the extra information from the peek especially if I am checking to see if coast is clear for a queller or if I should use a different option. Echoing truth is very good and a perfect tempo play.
Mana base
Very standard mana base. I am thinking about running one of these horizon lands but I am still wondering if I can afford to be gut shotting myself every turn. I may replace the canal with an islet but I am simply not sure yet. Apart from that just a regular mana base.
Sideboard
Okay so here I made the most changes. My toughest match ups by far are D&T/E&T, GW company, Eldrazi tron, and Jund.
I always have 2 abrade and 2 celestial purge in the SB. No matter what those stay in. They are very very useful and help alot vs problematic cards and decks that i see specifically Jund and humans. The 4th cryptic command is there for grindy match ups or match ups I want to slow down but I may make that a archmages charm or 2nd echoing truth. The 3rd geist and steel of the god head are the best ways I have found to deal with GW company and even eldrazi tron. E-tron is nearly unwinnable to be honest they just draw the most efficient cards and I found slowing them down with alpine moon or sphere is just not enough. The best way to win is being aggressive while being resiliant and the combo of steel and geist really helps with that apart from it just being my fav combo however i havent played vs the new E-tron creator tool box version so we will see. Although i must say perhaps the e-tron creator version may work in our favor since they seemed to have dropped the chalices maindeck in favor of karn this will help us not be stopped by a turn 2 chalice thus keeping our removal alive at least for a few more turns. Hellkite also helps but I use hellkite along with staticaster for humans and token decks like mardu pyro and BW tokens. Azcanta, and reinforcments for the grindy match ups like jund and now teferi(which i havent tested) formally a second ceremonious rejection. The two cards at the bottom are negate and dispel which are going to become archmages charm and a flusterstorm.
Anyways I havent been able to play much but I am always looking for tweaks and improvements to this deck. Let me know what you guys think.
PS. looks like as more spoilers are released the more I was wrong about this set. I was not as happy about this set but it seems they are making some very creative cards that will really propel modern to be ever more unique and diverse im crossing my fingers for a stompy bear deck to come out that would be so cool. I am very excited to see what will become of modern and I am very glad that i was wrong about this set. It was the pessimist in me just lashing out and being a little bi**h id say. lol

Interesting question. The Queller FAQ says

So Queller allows you to cast at instant speed but Teferi forbids it and thanks to rule 101.2 Teferi wins and the exiled spell stays exiled.
And you'd need to have 1UU open to counter a Settle the Wreckage or Terminus during your turn, which is pretty expensive.

Thanks
Gofy

It was the pessimist in me just lashing out and being a little bi**h id say. lol
