I got to test a few matches against grixis DS and got to resolve a turn 2 pyromancer ascension and getting it going on turn 3, there was no coming back from that point for my friend. All in all the deck feels great, I really enjoy the high cantrip with 3 Thought scour assissting the playsets of opt and serum visions and the lower land count at 18. The deck runns very smooth and Pteramander did some pretty nasty things. It needed some time getting used to the card but after a few games I can say that he is they way to go forward, at least for me.
As far as Modern horizon goes, the SCG-Team did a 3 matches with 6 different decks, that could potentially exist after the release of MH. They showcased some of the cards pretty well. Most of the cards just seemed extremely fine, a few others not as much.
Daze would so cool to get, but only time will tell. I hope that we just get some kind of tempo card and daze would be the perfect fit.
As you said Curdbros, we would have to build our deck somewhat different, way more tempo oriented and less aggressive.
Regarding the London mulligan. I havent tested it yet, except for some goldfishing, and I have to say at first I was very sceptical and thought it was way to powerful and that our deck just doesnt really benefit from it and others get way better. But it felt very natural for our deck, keeping the best 6 or 5 out of 7 is actually huge and very enjoyable. The degenerate decks will benefit more, thats for sure. The deck thats benefits the most is probably dredge, but if they really think that dredge goes over the top with this change, even thought looting is the best card in modern, it would be a mistake to ban it. This would kill some very interesting archetypes like mardu pyromancer, opting for a stinkweed imp ban would be a hit against dredge and not outright destroy a handfull of decks.
All valid points. I have not tried the mulligan rule with this deck but choose to re-invent a deck around the rule in order to get the rule banned. Thought process is to create a turn 1 lock.
I am not against the London mulligan rule, but feel it will be abused. I think it is a "feel good" rule for new players entering into standard or Arena. There are still Vintage and Legacy tournaments that see a player base. So that is a consideration with this new rule.
I think they will end up keeping the london mulligan rule and possibly using it as a way to ban Faithless Looting.
I'd be so happy with that. It would get rid of so many retarded starts from Dredge, Grishoalbrand, Izzet Phoenix and Hollow One who all can get 8-15 power into play on T2-T3 only thanks to that card...
Btw, I went back to the roots and tweaked my deck a bit more by adding 2x Young Pyro and 1x Jeskai Charm.
So far the deck feels absolutely fantastic. I am at a 7-0 winning streak again on MTGO
All additions feel great. Secure the Wastes is never bad. Echoing Truth still is one the MVP cards--won me two matches: against Ad Nauseam and Troll Worship.
I attached a screenshot of my current deck.
I tend to always include one manland as it mitigates flooding and let's you keep attacking after a sweeper. Since it's the only land in my deck that comes into play tapped it's okay. I don't like Colonnade because 5 mana to activate is really too high for a tempo deck. 4 mana for Fumarole is also a high activation cost but it can be done. Faerie Conclave would actually be the best fit but I can't afford to add more lands that only produce one mana (since I already run 3 basics, Stronghold and Eiganjo). If we should get Horizon Canopy-like lands in Jeskai colours with Modern Horizons (I really hope for that to happen) they'd replace Fumarole and Glacial Fortress in my deck...
I get it a nice concession choice. The Goldilocks man land. I have got stuck in more than a few games where I needed a man land to keep up the attack, but failed to put one in the deck.

That's awesome StevomatUWR. I often have to "get back to the basics" when I get a little crazy tinkering with my deck. I have to simplify back to what made the deck great in the beginning. I have stated before I have a bit of a "tinkering" problem.
Mazeron I agree with you about the mulligan rule. I think a lot more people are going to enjoy it rather than hate it. I think it will help the degenerate decks, but not by a tone. Hopefully modern horizons helps the non-combo decks.
Now onto the planewalker news! We will be getting ral, saheeli, terferi, narset, jace, chandra, ajani, and more! I am sure at least one will fit in our deck. I hope that they go all the way down to 2 drop planewalkers. I think they will because they have 36 walkers. It will be interesting to see the new planeswalker designs.
Hi guys, I wasn't here for a long time and for some reason they deleted my account and my posts. I am really excited about the modern horizons as you guys. Now i am trying curdbro's deck and to spice it up a I will try Postmortem Lunge eventhough I know it is bad. I will notice you guys later after some testing. I am really excited to play Postmortem Lunge + Geist of Saint Traft or Snapcaster Mage in the graveyard.

Good to hear from you Dzung. I love the spice. We have to remember that we are supposed to have fun playing the game too so adding spice to a deck is awesome. Even if it's a little worse it worth it when it works :).
As for modern horizons, it's making my head spin. I can't decide what I want to see. After watching Todd vs Ross on Starcity games it looks like standstill would be amazing, but is probably a little too good for modern. It also creates some bad gameplay. I have been getting more excited about Accumulated Knowledge possibly. There is also Daze too. I think the thing I would like to see most would be some type of "fixed" brainstorm or preordain. I sometimes forget we are getting new cards too, not just reprints. Maybe something like what Emma Handy said:
U
Sorcery
Scry 1, draw a card, scry 1.
That would be awesome for a delver style deck to help flip our delvers.
or
UR

Draw 2 cards, put one card from your hand back on top of your library. You may shuffle your library.
Not sure if just adding a red mana to the cost and cutting a card is still too good for modern or if it's now not good enough.
My other hope is that we get a few decent modal spells like a better Izzet Charm. That would probably be the best thing for our deck. Maybe a three drop spell that allows you to pick two options. Something like:
UUR
Instant
Pick two-
- Draw a card, and discard a card
- Deal two damage to any target
- Counter a spell unless the controller pays 2
- Return target non-land permanent to the controller's hand.
The sky is the limit with this set. I always get my hopes up. The set will likely underwhelm in terms of playable cards for our deck, but it's always fun to keep the hope alive and brainstorm.
It looks like Ben Friedman has seen the light. In his article today he talks about how good Echoing Truth is in modern right now. He indicates that it is "new tech" that someone named Andy found. Little does he know that we have been playing it for over two years now and have been singing its praises. I'm glad others are starting to see how good echoing truth actually is.
Now onto today's topic of discussion- how the London mulligan rule affects our deck. I read Todd Anderson's article today and he mentions that deck manipulation and counter magic get worse now. I was wondering how our deck should change or if it should change at all. I had already gone to a 3-4 split of serum visions and opt, but I may cut anther serum visions. It really depends on modern horizons. I currently have two flex slots open that were faithless lootings. I have been wanting to add a little more reach to the deck. I may try a copy of Electrolyze or a copy of Light up the Stage. I have also found Remand to be really good lately so I may try another copy of that. Another idea is to add two copies of Surgical Extraction into the main deck like other decks out there are doing right now. I'm not ready to try this yet, but it really doesn't sound that bad. I will let you all know what I decide before I play Friday.
Because we don't play a combo or linear style deck, the deck is kind of in flux right now until we see the new cards and how it affects the meta. For now I am sticking with what was working.
Hi guys, today i was playing at my LGS and my score was 2-2 a quite usual score for me.
1-2 Grixis Delver
2-1 some brew BlueBlack Control
0-2 Tron
2-1 Death Shadow Zoo.
The first game against Grixis Delver a got overvalued, played badly and missed my delver triggers.
The second game he got overwhelmed by two delvers and the third game i flooded so that was the first match.
Against the UB control i got a bad hand, mulliganed to 5 and got destroyed by 3 planeswalkers.
However, the 2 second game he got rekt by two swiftspears and so in the third game. I also have to say that opt is a really good card and i liked it a lot.
Unfortunatley for me postmortem lunge was really disapponting in those 9 games.
Against tron i played badly and was super unlucky the first game i did a bad sequencing and punted the game. The second one was just a throw.
I mulliganed to 5 and was stucked on one mana for 5 turns then I just conceded.
The last match against DeathshadowZoo was really enjoyable the first game i punted hard i got 3 bolts in the hand and he got 9 HP, but i got just 2 red mana and I had forgotten to bolt him at his endstep. I just got overrunned by a deathshadow and tarmogoyf with temur battle rage. I sided in 2 deflecting palms and guess what.He got hit by his own deathshadow when he got 7 HP so he ended up with 1 HP.
I just ended that game with a bolt. The last game he dealt to much damage to himself and I rekted him with the classic combo of one swiftspear and one flipped delver and one bolt.

Thanks for the recap Dzung. Those are some really awesome matchups. Your local area sounds awesome.
I love Deflecting Palm. It's really underrated in decks like ours. Tron is normally a decent matchup, but it's still Tron and can win at any time.
What do you think worked well and what cards underperformed? I am currently trying a copy of Vendilion Clique and/or Cryptic Command. I think I had too much deck manipulation so I am trying the deck a little bit more like my original build.
Well I really love Mana Leak. It never disappointed me. I somehow don't like remand that much because sometimes the tempo is just useless and the card drawn is irrelavent somehow using 2 or maybe more cards to get rid of a card feels off for me and to deal with their threat that we were supposed to counter later is quite annoying. Also I will exchange Vexing Devil for Pteramander I want try this new card. Vexing Devil giving them a choice is just too bad. And the last thing that i am exchanging is Risk factor for a Boros Charm. There were times where it was just too slow and was a deadcard because of the 3 mana cost. I really like this card but it kinda disappointed me in those last games, maybe if the meta slows down I will put it back.
@dzung; sounds like good changes. Most of the decks I tried Vexing Devil in just did not work right, the choice is always against us. Risk factor is mitigated a little by Jumpstart, but it is a late game card.
Those young pyromancers look amazing. My next big investment will be to customize my deck. That won’t happen very quickly but I love custom cards. I Especially like the border less cards.
As for the angels, none of them are my style, but I do agree 3 is my favorite of the bunch.
A while ago I posted my deck on Facebook in the closed group MTG: Modern Delver and I was asked "How are your match ups? What are your best and worst?"
I replied:
...the best thing would be to go into each match up looking at the pre and post boarding games separately but that would take too long to write down so I'll just try to do it as simple as possible: Good match ups are
Burn, Spirits, Humans, Merfolk, Elves, UR Aggro, Zoo, Mono Green Tron, Jeskai Control, Faeries, Creature Toolbox, Grishoalbrand, Infect, Mill 50-50 match ups are
Arclight Phoenix, Affinity, Hardened Scales, Death's Shadow, Jund, Hollow One, Eldrazi Aggro, UW Control, Rock, Lantern Control, Red Prison, Amulet Titan, Valakut, Walks, Living End, Ad Nauseam Bad match ups are
Hatebears, Bogles, Martyr Life, Tokens, Smallpox, Ponza, UR Storm
All our decks are a bit different and have different SBs so I wanted to ask you guys if your match ups are the same? If you think my assessment is wrong please let me know so we can discuss
There are a few matchups I would classify slightly differently, but that is likely just due to deck differences. I would consider Jund and Rock as slightly unfavorable. However, this likely leaves them in the 50/50 section though given they are even post board.
I agree about Tron being a good matchup. I have very favorable results against them.
UR storm is another one I would probably put in the 50/50 section instead of bad.
All in all I think this list is perfect for the average jeskai delver list if people want an overall meta view. Certain matchups will be slightly different given the build but most will be the same, especially the bad matchups.
Whenever I finally get around to updating the primer I will put a section in on matchups that is updated.
There isn't much going on right now with all of modern waiting for Modern Horizons and with the meta being kind of settled and also not so much fun. Therefore,I think it is a great time for a MATCHUP OF THE WEEK post. For newer posters matchup of the week is where we all discuss a matchup from our decks perspective and how we gameplan/sideboard for the matchup.
We have had a slight difference in opinion for Gx Tron so that will be the matchup for this week.
Matchup of the week- Gx Tron
Overall- This matchup ranges greatly depending on your build of the deck. The more aggro/control builds will have a good matchup against tron and the more midrange style decks will have a tougher matchup (depending on threats). I have found this matchup to be about 60/40. Like most decks in modern, if they have a god hand in game one and they are on the play there is almost no way to beat them
Gameplan- The gameplan for tron is rather easy. Land an early threat and keep the board clean. Counter magic is great against tron. They typically try to land huge threats early so I have had numerous times where a Spell Pierce just countered their early Karn. Path to Exile is great against tron as well because it hits their [c]Wurmcoil Engine[/s] and all other threats.
Sideboard- Any land destruction works well. Stoney Silence is also great. I play two copies of Alpine Moon which is great for the tempo and aggro-control style builds that have a low curve. Another card that is great against them is Deflecting Palm. Basically all of their creatures are huge beaters that are crippled by a deflecting palm. Anything that hits lands is a good choice against them. Counter magic is also great such as Negate , Ceremonious Rejection, and others.
All in all I think the tron matchup ranges from a favorable matchup to an even matchup. Jeskai midrange has a terrible tron matchup but that is mainly due to the fact that they don't have early threats.
This deck is so so sweet! It really shines in the hands of a skilled player like LSV.
It's no Delver deck so please forgive me for posting it here, but it's a delight for every Jeskai fan
And i dont think looting needs a ban it provides no advantage and if the GY is the problem then aim for the GY.
I feel what would be best for us to see in horizons is a spell snare that can hit 1 and 2 mana spells. That would be really great to see.
