Good call Cody. I always tend to forget the upside of Steppe Lynx when I think about the card. Because I personally always play a bit more aggressive tempo version that typically doesn't play Cryptic Command I tend to think that way. Great call on lynx being better in a deck with more counter magic.
I would love to give K Command a try, however I just don't know if I can fit black into the deck. I guess if it's the only black spell and it's more of a late game spell, it wouldn't be to hard to get black mana by the time we would need it. It's definitely a very powerful card and is likely worth the inclusion. I will give it a try. Your mana base is very interesting with the 7 fastlands and 1 fetch-able dual land. That may simplify things. I am very interested to try something like this. Has that mana base been smooth for you?
My version's mana base works. at times i hold 1 fetchland in hand to get the godless shrine to get k.cmd going. getting a basic swamp in the land base kinds of muddles it and that is my experience from the past when i tried out jeskai black builds. because of that, i have been considering having 1 copy of Swamp in my sideboard as an insurance against Blood Moon (in fact, i think i can have Blood Moon in my SB as well lol)
Steppe Lynx in a high land mana base deck makes sense. It gives it more potential landfall triggers. I wasn't a fan of it in the past when it was used exclusively in aggressive decks with less than 20 lands because too many times i have seen it do nothing after turn 4-5. Steppe Lynx also has some synergy with Deprive, just in case anyone is keen on working on a slightly more aggressive deck with a lower landbase.
This is a very burn oriented list. I love the two main deck Deflecting Palm. I have a permanent spot in my sideboard for deflecting palm and often run two in my board. Overall I like the list. It's a very basic/powerful burn oriented jeskai delver list.
Hey guys im new to this primer but im glad i found it because ive been working on a jeskai build myself. Though this one is fully synergy. Let me know what you guys think. i want to build it in paper but i dont want to spend the money before i know its good. I have play tested it online and stuff and it does pretty well. I actually dont have any trouble versus any particular deck which I like quite a bit. Please give me any suggestions or advice. The card that I am most unsure about is shu yun when he performs he does very very well but its not as consistent as id like.

First off, that is an extremely awesome build! So unique and very cool. Secondly, welcome to the jeskai tempo/prowess topic.
As for the deck, I need to delve into a bit more to actually make an educated opinion. I will try to put it together and play with it a bit to see if I can see any weakness in the build. I do sometimes offer opinions based on theory if the build is similar to one I have played before, but because this one is a bit more unique I don't want to through around ideas without any prior experience with the deck. I am a huge fan of Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest. I played him in my build for a long time before chaning him for Bedlam Reveler. However, it may be better as a Monastery Mentor in this list. I wish the monk tokens were humans.
As you mentioned, one of the strenghts to the jeskai tempo builds is that they don't really have any really bad matchups. With that said, they often don't have any 80/20 matchups either. However, it does make you feel like you are in control of your wins and loses, which I like.
I will say at a first glance the card that I think looks like it could be removed is Young Pyromancer. It is a human and does work with spells, but with only 23 spells she seems to be the weakest of the creatures in the deck. That way you could add two more additional spells (possibly a Monastery Mentor and a 24th spell such as a 4th serum visions or Emerge Unscathed). I will play with the list a bit and get back to you. I must say that this list is sweet and I look forward to seeing how it evoloves if anything changes at all. Welcome to the team.
Delver of secrets is one of my favorite creatures and i had alot of humans from a human deck i built when i first started playing. And what better color combo than jeskai.. so here i am.
I also had my eye on mentor though i wanted shu in there because i had a token generator like young puro mancer. And him being a 2 drop it helps alot to get the tokens going.
But i may cut him out entirely to put in more spells i had my eye on azorius charm because it adds alot of resiliance with the lifelink but i dont know im still tweaking it.

Yes after what curdbros said i could see why pyro isnt the best option but i needed another human with a good amount of power and synergy(key point).
Shu could be dropped as he isnt necessary. I didnt like running only 3 delver but i didnt know what to cut out for the snapcaster because i added them last.
So i think i will drop shu add in a delver, drop young pyro and add in 1 more serum visions and 1 more titans strength.
As for the bolts you are right, ill drop a helix and go up with a bolt.
And i have one question for you guys concerning my list.. what do you guys think about azorius charm ? I really feel a one of would and could be really really good but im not sure. Thoughts?
And as for the sideboard I run the following
2x relic of progenitus
2x retract
3x silence
2x blood moon
2x vizier of remedies
2x solemnity
1x rest in peace
2x essence scatter
This side board answers almost every single deck in modern and has done me really well. Silence is extremely underated honestly as it really slows down a great deal of faster decks like affinity and especially infect. I highly recomend it.
Instead of Titan's Strength try Mutagenic Growth. It's free and can help you save creatures in combat or from damage based removal. God knows how many times I've 12'ed people with a Boros Charm and a Growth on t2 or with protection backup later in the game.
As for your sideboard, I can't agree on much because personally I don't leave the house without my angers and Deflecting Palms, but to each their own. The Vizier/Solemnity combo seems clunky to be frank, so do tell us how it turns out.
I was thinking about growth as well but strength has scry which is just awesome for a pump spell used turn 2 on swiftspear
The solemnity i threw in there to play against infect. I seriously hate the deck and always have and id rather just play a game out very slowly and a more control route against infect than to try and race
Deflecting palm is good for sure and i used to run it as well but i find its best to not run extra multi colored spells
And im sorry vizier isnt supposed to be there im not sure why i included that card i guess i had the combo on my mind its supposed to be
2x fiendslayer paladin against burn and jund sorry about that

ccc1522- I like that you have made your sideboard for your personal meta. That is something that more people should do. If you were to travel to a tournament I would probably recommend changing a few things, but sideboards are another area that are more personal than most people think. Like MrTzoulis, I don't leave home without my deflecting palm(s) and my negate/dispel combo. However, this is a personal play style preference. Before any tournment/FNM I just try to think of what I will likely play and how to combat those decks with my board. For now I am going to concentrate on your maindeck.
Back to the main deck. I really like the changes you have talked about making. I do agree that 4x Delver and 4x lightning bolt is a basic starting point for the deck. I have seen plenty of people cutting bolts so I don't think you have to play 4, but I would. I am a huge fan of having several "flex slots" in my deck so I can play a few cards that I feel are strong in the current meta or cards that I personally like. My flex slots right now are Echoing Truth which has basically become a non-flex slot and a permanent member of the deck, spell queller, and [/c]emerge unscathed[/c]. These slots change periodically. If you like Azorious Charm right now, run a copy and see how it goes. Modal cards in our deck are key and are typically very strong. I say give charm a try.
I couldnt agree more with the sideboard. I am a more unconventional side boarder i guess i would say but im also a noob so theres that.
And yes i realized 4 delver and 4 bolts are just essential in my opinion.
And my reasoning behind azorius charm is bc more than a few games ive had about 8-9 tokens out all with a counter on them and life link on all of them would have been seriously great but i was facing down a few flyers and i lost. And this type of scenerio has happened to me and it just so happened that i had a boros charm in my hand. Which made me think if i had azorius this would all be different. I think a one of of each charm could be worth testing but wel see.
Thank you guys for all the welcomes and for all the advice and critic i am very happy to be a part of this thread now

@ccc1522: Just do it like I and run a copy of Jeskai Charm, then you have both Azorius & Boros in your hand with one card. I don't even run Pyromancer and therefore never have 8-9 tokens but often it's enough to cast it when I attack with Geist to deal 2 damage more and gain 8 life! Won me so many races and the best part is that you can just end a game with 4 dmg to the face or put a Tasigur or whatever back on top of your opponent's library.
Talking about sideboards, what do you guys think of this new card: http://mythicspoiler.com/ixa/cards/evaporatingmelody.html
I am going to include at least one in my SB.
1. Instant speed!
2. You gain control over the card for good (unlike Threads of Disloyalty which becomes nothing when your opponent plays Abrupt Decay)!
3. Rather cheap since it let's you steal a Shadow for 3 mana or a Tarmogoyf for 4 mana for example!
One more question about sideboarding from my side:
I often board out 2-3 of my 4 Serum Visions and I wanted to ask if everybody is doing it this way?
My reasoning is that I would only use these Serum Visions to find the cards I boarded in so it makes more sense to me to replace them.
I never, ever sideboard out cantrips (unless it was probe and I was against Burn or something as aggressive). The more you have, the more likely you are to find what you need or something that will help you. You're better of siding out something that's average to bad in that match-up.
As for the leaked card, IF it's indeed an instant I'll be sure to try it out.
I agree. I only ever side out 1 serum visions if I can't find another card that is bad in the matchup. It is a safe card to side out if there are no other options, but I often find them to be rather helpful in post board games because they help us find our more effective cards. Another question on this subject is how many cantrips we would play if Preordain were unbanned. Modern Nexus is currently trying preordain out. I think I would run 2 visions and 4 preordain or possibly three of each. I'm not sure, but that is a topic for a later debate if/when that happens.
As for the leaked card, it looks very very good. I am really interested in how it will help some of our tougher matchups like GBx decks. I will definitely be giving it a try.
I mean, they'll just empty the ballista on you in response, but being able to take things for only a little bit of mana, and take them permanently (no threads of disloyalty to abrupt decay, no mind control to disenchant) seems decent enough.
Since they've been out for quite some time already what is the concensus about Cryptic Serpent and Enigma Drake ?
Can they be effective curve-toppers for a "Jeskai Delver" deck ?
For the most part, I do like this list.
If I were to build a jeskai queller style list, I think this is more or less the way to go.
As for serpent/drake, I feel that drake is a pretty decent card, but I'm not sure it really belongs in jeskai, as we have plenty of other good 3 drops already. (geist, queller, mantis rider, etc). In just blue-red decks (moon, delver, etc) it does seem quite good.
Cryptic serpent feels too weak, IMO. It isn't evasive, it trades/dies to anglers, most shadows, and many goyfs. Its not even castable without a lot of stuff in the yard, or late in the game.
Being able to play a 1/4 on t3 and know it will be able to deal some damage later is a lot better than just sitting with a serpent in your hand.
Since they've been out for quite some time already what is the concensus about Cryptic Serpent and Enigma Drake ?
Can they be effective curve-toppers for a "Jeskai Delver" deck ?
I personally prefer cryptic serpent over enigma drake, but I don't play either. I find Bedlam Reveler to be superior to both in my personal build. I do know that HolyDiva the streamer plays an "all-in" aggro deck with enigma drake at the top end. It's more of a combo deck with Kiln Fiend, [/c]Manamorphose[/c], Mutagenic Growth, Temur Battle Rage, etc, but it works very well in that style of deck. I just don't prefer to play that style of deck.
I'm not sure if anyone has tested too much with either of these cards, but I think that Cryptic Serpent is a sleeper that could be utilized more. Its seems like WOTC really wants this style of deck to work with Thing in Ice, Bedlam Reveler, Cryptic Serpent, Stormchaser Mage, etc. They have really given us a lot of toys.
I wish I like Thought Scour because it works so well with Snapcaster Mage and Bedlam Reveler, however I just have never liked that card in my deck. It always seems to flip over two great cards and then I draw a land. I hate the fact that it doesn't offer any control. On the plus side it's instant speed so it's great at the end of a turn with snapcaster. For some reason I have always shied away from thought scour. I may have to give it a try in my flex spots just to see if I have not given it enough love. I am currently running a copy of Peek so it should be a fairly straight forward swap.
It does work great with Enigma Drake though. Is anyone currently running Enigma Drake and/or Cryptic Serpent?
When i was playing Grixis Delver, I usually used Thought Scour on my opponent instead. I have Thought Scour-ed players who Serum Visions during their turn.
I never felt the urgency to rush the graveyard to resolve Bedlam Reveler though. Its the same for Enigma Drake and Cryptic Serpent. When they resolve from normal tempo play, they either eat the relevant removal spell or seal the game.
So far, beat zoo land destruction, mill (barely though), mono white hatebear, death shadow
Some thoughts:
- Blood moon's crazy and unexpected. Stick one G2 when 1-2 threats are out and it's game over, leaves them guessing G3 too.
- 1 ofs are fun, and all work around the core set of creatures. I want to make this competitive though and am not sure if linear consistency is worth it (getting ready for a 100-200 player local event in Nov)
- love the low creature count with delver. played 23-24 instant/sorceries before and the 27 now makes a big difference
- Feel though i'm caught in the middle. The first 7 cards determine if i play aggro or hella more midrange. Maaybe just go full out linear with lynxes and swiftspears...
Any help welcomed
