This is a deck idea from the budget forums that I wanted to make into a competitive deck. Instead of using the ungodly expensive Tarmogoyf, it relies on the under-utilized Quirion Dryad as one of its main threats in more of a 'Protect the Queen' strategy (hence the deck name).
The most obvious place I have to improve is the mana base. I play modern on MTGO, so I won't be able to afford Scalding Tarns anytime soon. But Misty Rainforest and Wooded Foothills are more in my price range, so I'll be picking up a playset of those soon. The relevant shocklands are also autoincludes. What I need to know is what amount of each I need for this deck. Is 21 too many or too few land?
Dispel will be replaced with Spell Snare once I pick up a few copies. Otherwise, my deck is mostly complete. Do you have any recommendations on what I can add or take away from the deck? I wanted to find room for Snapcaster Mage, but with running so few lands combined with Treasure Cruise, I'm not sure he's right for this deck.
Yeah, she actually works out really well no matter when I draw my Queen, having so many ways to trigger her. I just have to have a threat in my opening hand in the first place.
Q Dryad used to be key card in a couple of different low land decks, and it strikes me that both delver and swiftspear want more cantripping instants than lands.
I would say Manamorphose is a 4 of as well and gut punch may be warranted; however rather than gut punch I would say 1cc Scry cards or cantrips may be a wortwhile approach rather than boosting your land count.
Hi Skoonie, sorry I didn't get back sooner. I've been away from my computer the last couple of days. Looks like Legolax got a really solid response put together. I can only say that his advice looks even better than what I'd have to say.
