It beat UR Twin to win the event, and likely qualified for T8 through a field of Burn and Delver. No one can look at this deck and not crack a smile and I just had to share it with the community.
Wow...I can't believe that deck managed to beat twin! I have never seen such a random sideboard, but looks pretty cool. I almost wonder if the key to the weird sideboard was the heartwood storyteller? It's not something you'd want to counter, but it can sure do a lot of work in a burn/spell infested meta.
It looks quite interesting. I would say that the tracker is an excellent inclusion in such a deck. It's a shaman to come in for free off of the leaf crowned elder and pretty much your creatures should rule the red zone, so it's going to absolutely demolish any other creature base that isn't pro green.
What fliers would he be worried about? Lingering souls tokens? It's kinda hard to chump when his biggest beater has trample and is bolt/decay proof. Delver? at best it's a 3/2 and that is little more than a chump blocker, too. he has the two trackers, 2 nameless, and three abrupt decay. I am relatively certain smashing past creatures is pretty easy for the deck. Not to mention doran nerfs the delver pretty hard, too. I would agree the list could be better streamlined ( I have played treefolk in 100+ player events in years past), but as it stands, it has some really solid concepts in it.
Treefolk gets the December Feature. First, it's actually a competitive deck (Apparently!) that won a fairly large event in a Delver and Burn saturated metagame. Second, it's a super cool and unique tribal design that players have probably been trying to work with since Lorwyn first came out. And finally, as Hypaspist so eloquently stated, it's got a great holiday theme going for it, and 'tis the season!
I'm a tad confused. Why is the deck in the OP running Misty Rainforest and Wooded Foothills instead of Verdant Catacombs and Windswept Heath?
Besides that I'm excited to see this deck. I've been trying to brew with treefolk for awhile and I'm glad to see it has potential.
I know he is expensive, but I also think Timber Protector should be a 2-of. That way our lords are also pro removal... except for Path to Exile.
All the Fetchable lands are forests anyway, so as long as the fetch gets forest, it really doesn't matter what it is.
It also could have been a ruse to present as Scapeshift/Rug Delver/other in the first opening turns to induce a misplay from the opponent. (I can't think of any other decks it might look like, maybe 4C Gifts… though I don't think Gifts runs wooded foothills)
Either way, if all your typed lands are Forests, as long as your Fetch gets 'Forest' it can be anything. (I'd actually be a fan of diversifying even more to minima impact of extraction cards on the Fetch.)
Gifts can run any of the 10 fetches, but most likely won't be running Arid mesa's in most builds. Verdant, misty, delta, flats are usually what people favor.
I totally got run over by a Doran/treefolk build last night that went 3-1, only losing to bad draws against kiki-pod, If I see him again, I'll see if I can't get him to post a list.
I have a soft spot for Tribal decks, so this makes me quite happy. Some sweet tech running around in those lists, really happy a few people stumbled upon a viable treefolk build.
I love treefolk, I made a casual deck with them a while back and think this is a fantastic way to surprise a LGS. I would consider PtE in case of Wurmcoils.
More than 2/3 of your deck are not treefolk. Aside from Doran (great in any Abzan list) and Heartwood (great against Delver/Burn in any G/x/x deck) your only treefolk-related strategy appears to be chaining 0/3s into one another. Also, Nyx-Fleece Ram? Drown in Sorrow? these cards are both powerhouses in Standard but in Modern they do substantially less. This doesn't look like a bad list, aside from the fact that out of your 26 creatures 16 of them have 0 power, but it isn't really a treefolk deck.
I'm tweaking my list as we speak, I'll post it tomorrow.
I ran treefolk awhile back, my list was pretty tight. I ran paths and abrupt for board removal, a lot of hate in the sideboard. Maybe its time to bring it back into the fold?

I wish I could give more up votes for this post haha. You deserve all of them. Literally all of them.
Credit to DolZero for this awesome sig!
Ulvenwald Tracker seems like kind of an odd inclusion though.

Looks super fun. I love a good Tribal theme and this seems like the (Trees) Nuts
I was talking about the second list from the daily.
That's not how Uvenwald Tracker works. I assume its just there are straight removal, seems awfully fragile for that purpose.

The daily deck needs Abrupt Decay over collars and MAYBE Harmonize.
Look's like I'm brewing--one of my first decks every was Doran Treefolk WAY back in Lorwyn. Get's me all excited!

(+'.'+) This is Bunny. Copy and paste bunny into your profile to help him gain world domination.
