Regarding the discussion of early plays besides discard and Search for Tomorrow, might I suggest Disfigure. Could help stem the bleeding until the big spells come online.

My body is ready. May need to get the pieces to resurrect this beast. Feels like it has the high power to go over the top of Junk while still maintaining the disruption to hang with Blue.
How is the twin matchup?

Also, consider that Liliana counts as occasional mana denial, and it starts to become a significant portion of our strategy.

So what do people think of Smallpox + Death Cloud? And what are your wincons? Is it just Kitchen Finks, Garruk Wildspeaker and Treetop Village?
Early lists had Smallpox in them. It's a nonbo though as you want to build resources and it takes them away. And yep that's about it. It works surprisingly well though.

I definitely would love to see this working with Smallpox + Life From the Loam and just a singleton Death Cloud. It actually does the same early and with T1 plays like Search for Tomorrow it works pretty well. Maybe Loam is unecessary after Steve and Search. But it definitely plays earlier with a T3 Garruk coming on top.
First I want to say a few things about my card choices. I play gaze of granite mainly because I only have 1 damnation, but I have to say it's been fantastic deals with multiple kinds of tokens better than pulse and unlike damnation it can hit non-creatures. damnation is probably better but it's worth a consideration. I know the consensus is against courser and especially 4 but I wanted to test out how it affected the consistency of the deck and it made a noticeable difference in the future though I think I will do a 2/3 split with finks an courser respectively. Darkblast is amazing hits snap, clique, bob, pyromancer. Play it
Round 1: 2-1 v BW tokens, got mana screwed in game one and lost but gaze of granite and curse of death's hold sealed the deal game 2. Game 3 manged to get a big death cloud in with a garruk down, they scooped.
Round 2: 2-0 v zoo, grinded them down until they had nothing and I could start swinging in with treetop. Game 2 finks out of the sideboard did all of the work.
Round 3: 2-0 v junk, grinded it out until I resolved a big death cloud both games with some kind of threat left behind
Round 4: 2-1 v burn, totally out gunned game one. Luckily in game 2 a back to back inqusition takes the wind out of his sails and a finks seals it. Game three was close but he missed a couple of land drops and I top decked a cloud to put him way to far behind
It was a very successful night but there definitely some changes I'm going to make.
Hi guys, why Death Cloud Rock over simple, Abzan-Rhino Midrange list? What are pros of this deck?
One pro: No Tarmogoyf needed for optimal build. Otherwise if locking your opponent out of the game in a way that a typical mid-range deck can't sounds fun to you, give it a try.
The reason to play the deck is basically Death Cloud. Similar to Balance, when built around, Death Cloud is a very unsymmetrical symmetric effect. Death Cloud basically reads 3BBB you win the game a vast majority of the time. Most decks can't easily recover from saccing 3+ creature and lands as well as discarding their hand while your deck is built around being able to do just that. They have to draw lands and threats/answers while facing down some combination persisted Kitchen Finks, Treetop Village, Garruk Wildspeaker tokens or an active Liliana of the Veil killing the threats they can't play while your higher land count lets you consistently play what you draw after the cloud. Even a cloud with X=2 can just wreck some decks. As for is it better than BGx, well right now, its probably a worse overall. But its a fun deck to play, which is why people are trying to make it better.
The deck isn't as well positioned as junk in that they have fewer bad matchups but death cloud with its high removal count has a good matchup against decks like twin, infect and affinity. I admit that sometimes it pains me to play clunky cards like Sakura, but the way I see it it's still a mini fog, ramp and food for ooze. I feel like rock cloud needs a small push from a new card or two for it to make an impact
Speaking of a new card that may provide a push, can Deathcloud get the new Liliana online and doing some work?
I don't think she really does much for us, also I wouldn't want anything competing with Liliana of the veil. If you cant flip her she is just a waste of time, I would rather run vampire nighthawk

You are doing apples and oranges comparison here, but if you want to discuss a different deck then head on over to its thread.
