Like cheating fatties into play with counterspell back-up? OH-YEAH!!! This may be the platform you have been looking for! This deck is capable of outstanding turn 2/3 plays that, so far, have only seen the light of day in legacy! Turn 3 Batterskull sexy enough? No, how about turn 3/4 Emrakul? Have I got your attention yet? Countermagic back up gives this deck some resilience while you loot your way to victory. The deck core features many cards with untapped potential making this a relatively affordable promise of power. There are several powerful concepts combined together that are not overdeveloped allowing for considerable flexibility. The deck maintains this flexibility while remaining in only 2 colours without necessitating an overly greedy manabase.
Why feature Izzet Gold NOW?
Recent format changes. The recent banning of Deathrite Shamman affords new stability and resiliency to this deck.
New hate on the Horizon. Like many others, I suspect that modern may be on the brink of seeing alot more MD hate for greedy manabases in the form of Blood Moon which was recently showcased at a major event. The manabase here is resiliant to blood moon as it runs only two colors, with viable win conditions being castable with red/colorless mana only.
Modern staples prices have gone wild. Current "tiered" decks are seeing the prices of their staples spiking; sometimes out of the blue. The core of this deck uses cards that are good but have not yet seen insane price spikes. This is a good chance to draw the attention of new players (many reports of people being priced out of Modern) early in the development of an unknown entitiy with unimaginable power. The deck is not the cheapest one out there but much more managable than many.
Staying power. The core of the deck can be adapted readily to allow easy insertion of newer cards as they appear.
Why NOT feature Izzet Gold?
- Unkown entity. No discernible future now because it doesn't look like much that already sees play.
- Underdeveloped. The current list is very rough. Probably needs more land. No sideboard currently. I don't have a lot of time or tournament experience to contribute. I would be willing to let a capable/accomplished person/group take the lead (I could be in small print at the end of the credit role ) if such a person expressed strong enough interest and desire to do so.
I've been playing this deck a lot, it's very consistent, very powerful, and has very few bad match ups. Creative versatile control combo deck that can be played with almost any colors. I feel the meta needs more control combo. I feel that with more ideas, the deck could become even better.
For what it's worth, my second choice would be Modern Belcher, just because it's such a unique deck (mono green 4 turn combo deck) but I feel the deck doesn't need to be featured as much because it has nearly 50,000 views already.
And the Featured Thread of March is FATE SEAL!! Be sure to check out the thread and to submit your threads for the next month.
Don't forget to nominate some threads for the April deck feature! I have a few in mind that I want to nominate just to get the ball rolling, at least if no one else has nominations of their own.
The end of the month is coming up and I know that there are some cool decks out there that want some sticky attention. Nykthos Enchantress? Skred Red? Heartless Reanimator? Time Warp? So many options!
Submit your decks and get some added discussion and traffic to your thread!
Does it have to be a thread that you started or can it be one that you are contributing to? Because if it can be one that you are just majorly contributing to
Application for Featured Thread-Living End Reanimator
(it would need a name change if it was featured because it is mostly used for talking about the Breaking Bad version now)
Have you ever wished that Modern had a consistent reanimator deck? Well here it is. This combo deck gets cards into the graveyard using discard and Breaking // Entering abuses the cascade mechanic to either cascade into the Entering side of Breaking // Entering and reanimate a large creature with haste or in some cases cascade into Living End and reanimate your whole graveyard. This deck is fast, consistently reanimates on turns 3-4, and crushes a large portion of the top decks of the format. The best part is that now that Deathrite Shaman is banned, this deck is in the right position to crush the Modern meta.
Because a combo engine that protects itself screams "break me". The basic premise of the deck is to cast Possibility Storm followed by one, sigular tiny creature such as Omnithopter, with your only other creatures being flying spaghetti game winners. And note the Possibility Storm says "cast," which few (if any) decks beyond Tron can claim to do. And the deck can be twisted to work with other finishers as well - some not necessarily of the creature variety. I think the deck still has a lot of room for development, despite having been silent for a while. I think it could claw its way up to and beyond Ad Nauseam power levels, since your combo engine can't really be disrupted, and doesn't put you in a similarly disadvantageous position.
Because a combo engine that protects itself screams break me. But seriously, how many decks beyond Tron can claim top hardcast Emrakul? And the deck can be twisted to work with other finishers as well - some not necessarily of the creature variety. I think the deck still has a lot of room for development, despite having been silent for a while. I think it could claw its way up to Ad Nauseam power levels.
Thanks for the post. I support this deck wholeheartedly (though I still want mine to be the featured thread).
Skred Red is a Rx control deck that banks on the unparalleled power of Blood Moon in metas with greedy manabases. Modern, a format particularly vulnerable to Moon effects, is ripe for this type of archetype to explode; with the recent unbanning of Wild Nacatl, the deck can really shine. It's put up results at tournaments (detailed in the thread) and can be built to suit a variety of playstyles, generally integrating planeswalkers and Path-proof dragons. Sweepers like Anger of the Gods and Pyroclasm give the archetype an edge against aggro, and the namesake card sets the deck apart from other red strategies since it deals with bulky threats like Restoration Angel, Celestial Colonnade, and Tarmogoyf for a single mana. Scrying Sheets even affords the strategy a form of card advantage and deckbuilders can easily splash a second color.
the card itself really isn't worth the card board its printed on...does it serve a purpose? Sure its a blue 1 drop that might not be a 1/1. I would not put it in a list and expect to win a PTQ or GP though.
Some of you may have heard of the gate in legacy. This archetype, also known as suicide black, is a mono-black aggro-control deck which thrives on 1-for-1ing and 2-for-1ing your opponent into oblivion while generating card advantage with sweet cards like Dark Confidant and Bitterblossom. Life is a resource, and the more damage you do to yourself, the more you are likely winning the game. In this thread, we bring you the modern version of the suicide black strategy. Although much of the original decklist is modern legal now, some juicy legacy staples are missed - making this modern translation interesting and creative. Cards you wouldn't think playable in modern are leveraged in this deck such as Bad Moon and Bubbling Cauldron. I started this thread a while ago, and with the help of a few other mono-black die-hards we have been able to create a few viable lists that I believe deserve some attention.
In the current metagame, this deck brings a massive amount of disruption to the table that most mid-range and combo decks have a nightmare facing down while also presenting an excellent clock when it comes down to a race. Have you ever had a bitterblossom online next to a bad moon? How about two? This alone is a ton of fun! With the unbanning of Bitterblossom, it has not yet found a home - so lets give it one.

Skred gets the top prize this month for a few reasons. First of all, it's an older deck that has been around for a while and never really gotten the press it deserved on this forum. Second, it's uniquely suited to the current metagame and would be a great choice for a lot of events. Third, it's a well-maintained thread with a steady stream of activity, and Featured status should boost that even higher. Finally, the deck has already seen some decent competitive success, and we'd love to showcase its power to the community.
Thanks for your April nominations everyone. Nominations for May start today. Remember that you can nominate your own thread, someone else's thread, or a thread that has already been nominated. Didn't get it this month? Try again next month! Look forward to seeing all those nominations.

Any other feature thread submissions? We just have three so far for May, but I know there are a bunch of other threads in Creation that get a ton of traffic and have lots of interesting ideas. So keep the submissions (or re-submissions) coming!
I'm probably to late, but i'll give it a shot anyway. Application for Featured Thread - Ritual Gifts http://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/modern/modern-deck-creation/554956-ritual-gifts
Rituals Gifts is a Combo/ Control deck for Modern. Similar to CyrpticShift in the sense that it is a control shell housing what is essentially a one card combo. By using the incredible tutoring power of Gifts Ungiven you can set up a 1 turn storm combo finish.
The deck has somewhat been forgotten about after Seething Song was banned. But the deck still works, and is actually very powerful, consistent, and by far one of the most fun, and rewarding experiences i've had playing magic. I have recently put a lot of work into updating the Primer and i'm hoping that if people see the deck is still playable without Seething Song, maybe they will give it a try.

Not just the Tendo King, the power of the Galactic Leyline surpasses that of the Tempa Emperor, No!, It's magnificent power is even greater than that!
This thread represents a new direction for pox players in modern. Traditionally people have gone with B/W for smallpox in order to utilize flagstones of trokair, but in this build similar (and possibly more powerful) synergies can be accomplished. Splashing Red instead of White gives pox players access to the other pox effects in modern: crack the earth and Boom // Bust and with these everyone's favorite red-lock piece in modern: Blood Moon. Again, this is another deck featuring the recently unbanned Bitterblossom, and it uses it well. In the current meta, this deck is well positioned because of its ability to mana-screw other players and undo their "plan a." If you give this deck a shot - I promise it will be very fun for you, at the very least

I assumed so! Especially since there are so few nominations
Anyway - I didn't see any rule against it in the OP. Sorry if I did something wrong!
If it is an issue, I would pick "small moon" to be this month's nomination.
