Did anyone tried to base the deck on last year's standard version (Raptor, Tidebinder, Weird and company) and proceed to upgrade from there?
That deck destroyed any red and/or green deck and only folded to Supreme Verdict.
Domesticate could become Threads, Architect could become Beleren, Pongify becomes Dismember or Vapor Snag, Specter could become Shorecrasher, we get Spreading Seas and so on.
The deck had great sinergy and doesn't look bad against Junk, Burn and Twin. It even has 12 flyers for Affinity, starting turn 1.
I don't know the numbers but I wonder why it isn't played at all.
frost walker is a solid 2 drop for the deck, they either start losing life fast, have to trade, or use removal on it. Being buffed by master and architect could make this thing even combat some huge dudes. Profaner of the dead looks great on paper vs aggro or tokens. Shorecrasher Elemental i think this has potential to be great. Silumgar Sorcerer I can't believe no one is talking about. Worse its an evasive flash beater. At best you trade a one drop for a siege rhino and get an evasive beater with it.

It is a bit less artifact based than some builds basically just playing Grand Architect as a blue lord. Is this just a bad merfolk or does it stand up on its own merits? You decide!

I had no idea this thread existed. Here's my post and deck that I posted on my other thread.
So ever since chief engineer came out I thought it had potential. I took the following brew to FNM and went 4-0 defeating a jeskai control 2-0, goblin combo (homebrew)2-1, abzan midrange 2-0 and temur delver 2-0. I designed the deck to hit from two fronts. It can use the strong convoke and GA synergy to bring out myr superion turn two, wurmcoil turn tree, but it can also go wide with master of waves. Initially I thought the deck would be a worse blue tron or affinity or a worse blue devotion or creature beatdown deck but the way it plays out is that it does all those things at once which gives it resiliency. The deck clearly needs some tuning but I think it has real potential. I think the deck can support a 4th wurmcoil but it's not necessary. Anyway, I felt this deck is worthwhile sharing and I hope you guys can help me make it better.
Note: Also I think deprive in this list might as well be counterspell as the drawback is not particularly punishing since the deck functions fine at three islands.
I would definitely cut memnites, they do nothing for the deck. Add a master and 2 more cursecatchers to up your synergy. Maybe a slot for an oblivion stone or something.

I think testing without menmites and replacing them with blue one drops is a good idea. however, they do have a purpose in the deck. with chief engineers they become moxes. i can hold them in hand and play them the same turn as chief engineer and use them to cast a myr superion or some other artifact. by having to pay mana for a one drop takes away that explosive interaction. also they are great at providing early pressure while holding up counter mana.

Æther Vial serves that role better than Menmite and does it through counter magic. It can also allow you to play Superion without the dorks.
