Hi guys! I've been trying to brew a 'fun' modern deck using the awesome Reality Acid and believe me, its a blast to play. I'd like to sleeve this up on the next Modern Magic Night, proving that budget decks can compete (and win, hopefully) against established ones. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Fire away!

Tweaked the deck and made my first foray into Cockatrice. Went up against Mono-U Tron. Won with the deck 2-1 (2-0; dude asked for a third game which I obliged, lost to Mindslaver lock). Match up all-star: Leonin Relic-Warder. He not only blinked Acid, but also my opponent's Wurmcoils, etc. (also Cloudskate with blink is annoying). SB still in progress... (2-1) 07/29/2013 9:41am
Got matched up against Robots! with all sorts of 1-drops and 0-drops. Managed to steal game 1 by Relic-Wardering Arcbound Ravager, then blinking to exile Cranial Plating. Lost game 2 to Steel Overseer pumps. Never drew a Reality Acid nor a Wall of Omens to slow things down nor any of my SB (Mana Leak, Lavinia). Managed to get opponent to 7 life in game 3 by Wardering his mana sources, but got mana-screwed myself. Lost 1-2. Match up all-star: Still Leonin Relic-Warder. (3-3) 07/29/2013 10:35am
Played against a guy who quit (ragequit?) after game 1 when I blinked Riftwing Cloudskate over and over again, bouncing lands, etc. He played Aether Vial, Voice of Resurgence, the works. He didn't get to play any other permanents so I don't know what deck he used. 1-0 Match up all-star: Riftwing Cloudskate, obviously, also Momentary Blink. Booboo play: Played an Acid enchanting a fetch land. Watch out for those (those dang duals look the same on Cockatrice!). (4-3) 07/29/2013 11:25am
I don't know the name of the deck (it has Deathrite Shaman as its opening play, and Vampire Nighthawk too). First game, I managed to get Venser online and started blinking Mulldrifter (to find Acid). Didn't get lucky, but he conceded due to the card advantage I'm having. Got overwhelmed in game 2, however. After nearly four turns, all I could manage was a Doom-bladed Wall of Omens. I somehow stabilized, but then he plopped down the deck's worst nightmare: Torpor Orb. With nothing to remove the annoying artifact with (except a resolved Acid maybe, after three turns nonetheless), it was soon GG. Game 3 was server time out in the early game stages, so I'll consider it a draw, 1-1. Match up all-star: Venser, the Sojourner. (5-4) 07/29/2013 12:37pm:
Deck Change Log 1 09/14/2013 1:28am:
Deck Change Log 2
drift of phantasms does nothing really. While you are hoping to draw a reality acid, you don't need to with that creature line up. In a similar vein, you're not capitalizing on some of the decks strengths, such as "blink". As a blue/white blink deck with alternative uses, it can be pretty good.
Why soul's attendant? You will gain some life, but not a lot. Kitchen finks as a 4 of would be much stronger, and much harder to kill while also being a viable win condition of its own, not that the deck lacks for those.
I guess one thing I can say is that your curve is kind of cluttered at the three drop spot with everything coming online then and most of those not being overly helpful other than the kitchen finks. Venser+reality acid makes a seriously nasty end game. Maybe either run aether vial and play as a blue/white blink taxes variant OR run some mana acceleration earlier on...azorious signet perhaps? it won't help your three drops get out any faster, but it will allow you to do more things per turn from 4 on, which is what you will have to do to not die.
Galepowder mage is interesting and repeatable, which I like. However, it's only really good after you get your own stuff online, so maybe only run 2? A 4th mulldrifter is likely to be more useful, or maybe some solemn simulacrum and go for a blue/white creature based control variant (I kind of like this one, actually.)
@weltkrieg - Soul's Attendant I was really having thoughts about. I guess I was looking for a good 1-drop. Sage of Epityr maybe? Or remove the 1-drop altogether and put in signets as accelerators. Have to playtest and report back. But I'll probably -1 the Galepowder Mage and try to pack in counterspells in there, as franconbean suggested. Sadly, I can't really afford the vial *sad panda* Also, will adding Oblivion Ring/Cloudstone Curio make the deck too clunky? I was googling and found this old article.
@franconbean - Thanks for the SB suggestions, specifically Stony Silence. Howsabout +4 (or +3) leaks in the main, and put in other counter-magic (Negate, Spell Snare, the like) in the SB? I'm also thinking of putting Lavinia in the sides as well.
To others who don't seem to get how the deck is played (I had to re-read Reality Acid when I first saw it), simply play the acid on any permanent and bounce it using Skyfisher or "blink" it with Flickerwisp. The permanent its enchanting is then sacrificed (re: not destroyed, sacrificed :D). Play the acid again, lather, rinse, repeat.
oblivion ring and curio is probably too clunky. You're going to have issues dealing with enough creatures in the early game as it is. In fact, I'd almost suggest running some path to exile to slow opposing decks down, or wall of omens (works well with blinks, too). On the other hand, if you really need earlier ways to slow down things, then you could try detain. azorious arrester will at least keep you alive a turn longer.

I will definitely try Wall of Omens as I've been facing aggro decks of all sorts in my playtesting. Also, Reveillark seems in line with what I'm trying to achieve. One-of or two-of, perhaps? I will be posting the modified deck list when I run some more tests on 'trice.
have you consider Leonin Relic-Warder in the deck. Has the Fiend Hunter wording so you can stack so the leave trigger resolves before the enter resolves to permanently remove troublesome artifact or enchantments, but you could also use it to get multiple permanents with Reality Acid. Cast Leonin targeting your Acid, let it resolve, forcing a sacrifice. Then, Blink Leonin, bringing back Acid enchant something new and re-fire the acid.
Ghostway is win more. Those should come out. Maybe for soul warden. Then the gale witch could become the 2 mana soul warden with protection from red and black? Add in the soul sisters lifelink flier and you haveyourself a soul acid deck. Pretty cool.
Seht's Tiger is a cool sb card for aggro and burn decks. Blinking him takes care of all kinds of funny stragities.

That's the card that slipped my mind! Cool, cool. I'll probably swap out the set of Kor Skyfisher for the Leonin Relic-Warders. I know those stack shenanigans, trouble is explaining it when I do it to my opponent. Lol.

Hey, I like that name! Trademark that sh**! Thanks for the idea! I might post a deck list on the white life gain thread using the sisters if playtesting comes up good. Anyway, I don't quite get the ones above in bold. Can you post a link to the cards? Thanks again! Definitely putting the cat in the SB.
I would not play any soul warden in this deck. You don't gain enough life off of it to be worth it. You were correct to play kitchen finks or aven riftwatcher over it. However, he is referring to auriok champion.
I like the second deck better than first. I would highly suggest running venser, shaper savant over riftwing cloudskate, at least a couple of them.
Other than that, looks pretty interesting. How are the galepowder mages working out?

Pass Priority. LTB trigger resolves first but fizzles to no Targets, then ETB triggers resolves therefore you exile the target. Getting people to understand the stack and priority is always the last concepts newer players get if they do not have and computer coding in their background.

Venser the Creature is really on my want list, budget is what stops me from picking him up. I'll test on cockatrice if he's really worth it. Galepowder, methinks, is a win more card. When I have him on my hand, I'd rather play the smaller-costed creatures. I'm not entirely sure yet though as I had very little playtesting done. I'll probably -1 it...
Interesting deck. I'm a bit worried you have TOO MANY bounce effects though.
Now that you've mentioned it, you're sumkinda right. I end up really protecting the Acid cause when its gone, the deck becomes tempo-aggro (?). I'm searching for more enchantments/creatures that are like Acid when it ETB (Oblivion Ring comes to mind, but I'm not entirely sure how I can pack it in the 60 main board). Any card on top of your head?
How about 1 more Venser? Playing only 1 copy seems subpar. That aside, deck looks really interesting. I mean, even hexproof stuff isn't safe from this.
I would love to, $$$ is the only thing hindering me from playing another one. As soon as I have the $$$, auto-include! uh-huh
One thing though, I *think* the deck has a rough match-up against boggle/bant auras(?). They start out so fast and the only card Acid manages to destroy are the auras, not the hexproof dudes. Can't target Slippery Boggle/Invisible Stalker in the first place with Acid. Seht's Tiger/Lavinia will hopefully take care of those (I really need an effective sideboard; the Tiger costs 4 and Lavinia, 5, still too slow to matter)...
Edit: Apparently, you can hit a creature with shroud/hexproof when Acid enters the battlefield from exile (due to blinking Leonin Relic-Warder/casting Flickerwisp). Oh the joy!
while I like signet and momentary blink as much as the next guy, I dont think that you want to see more than one in your opening hand, you could probably drop 1 each for more finks/wall of omens
while I like signet and momentary blink as much as the next guy, I dont think that you want to see more than one in your opening hand, you could probably drop 1 each for more finks/wall of omens
Thanks sir, I will definitely consider this as I'm thinking of dropping Galepowder Mage altogether (or a -1 at least).
what about sundial of the infinite for awesome removal with cards like flickerwisp when the acid is not out. Works great with venser as well, activate sundial when their creature's entrance is on the stack to perm. remove. And kor skyfisher maybe? The sundial also allows you to evoke mulldrifter and then keep it so 4 mana to keep it in play instead of 5.
I'm with ya. My own testing of this deck has really hurt from the lack of one drops, its just too slow. Noble hierarch is a great suggestion imo
Edit: Sundial Infinite has been amazing with flickerwisp when I can't get to an acid. I am considering the addition of Idyllic tutor Wish it was less mana but the acid is important enough it may be needed. I am using glimmerpoint stag instead of the leonin, that way I have more ways to deal with all permanents. Besides sundial took the 2 drop that leonin was filling. I also included an Avacyn's Pilgrim in addition to noble hierarch.
@wex101: Loving the Sundial connection! At least, we have more options rather than just Acid. Plus the fact that it's just $0.35 (mid) at magiccards.info is a steal. Will try to squeeze that in at my next deck tweak.
@cset: By all means sir, suggest un-budget card choices. The deck you posted looks tight and can be competitive, methinks...
Checking this thread back and forth as I test. A more budget friendly card to noble hierach would be birds of paradise In my deck list I got rid of the kitchen finks. It is wonderful in this deck for the life gain, but I found I kept wishing I had more control in my hand and not it. Seaside Citadel is also a budget friendly land to include for getting some of that green.
Just go with the game plan of blink/stall until you can get an acid online the old fashioned way. Paying 3 mana to get a 3 mana soft lock piece is pretty bad unless you have some serious ramp, which this deck doesn't.
To be truthful, I am not as convinced of restoration angel's addition to the deck. He joins in the same slot as galepowder mage, IE, win more and doesn't do a whole helluva lot until then. This deck doesn't want more top end, it needs more bottom end. Kitchen finks is the smarter play because he's much harder to get rid of and hits a turn sooner.
Now that you are in green have you thought about Mystic Snake? Very powerful with blink spells. Often better than blinking something that blinks acid. Just counter the spell rather than trying to destroy it?
Most of the blinking that this deck does it through flickerwisp and friends, so unfortunately that doesn't always work so well.
It is unfortunate that the acid costs 3 mana. A typical game has gone like this for me,
Turn one land Avacyn Pilgrim. Turn two land and either acid or sundial infinite. Turn 3 flickerwisp to remove permanent with either acid or sundial. At that point we have fairly strong board control, especially with the acid out since most of our hand can continue to bounce it for more permanent removal, including lands!
I like how, even without sundial or acid, a flickerwisp or a glimmerpoint stag can be used to flicker another flickerwisp, which can really stall their game. I like restoration angel for this person, as it can slow things down and allow for some flying beat down with it and flickerwisp when the other control pieces aren't available.

My thoughts exactly! We don't have to rely on Acid to win, tempo-aggro?
Hey, active weekend! Haven't had the opportunity to playtest yet, but I will be updating tomorrow.
Quick thoughts:
I would like to keep my version to just two colors due to budget constraints (and consistency), but I appreciate everyone who have been testing the UWg variant. Deck list sir wex101? Sundial of the Infinite: Definitely going to test this. The synergy with the blinkers is too much to ignore. Glimmerpoint Stag: +2 at most when I go Sundial. Idyllic Tutor: What weltkrieg said. Restoration Angel: yet... Totem-Guide Hartebeest: Has synergy, but a bit slow. Tallowisp: Sadly, no spirit or arcane spell
