I like the Legacy Humans list that Sam Black ran, and figured that I would try to brew up something similar and see where it gets us. The one major issue, of course, is that it loses a lot of its potency because the following cards aren't legal in Modern and they are rather key to the deck's success...
Ok, so now that this is posted, lets move on to Modern! There are, of course, a few key cards that we're going to be missing out on. He stated in his review of the deck that he would have cut the Wastelands because they didn't end up being helpful, so that's fine right there. We can obviously sub in Godless Shrine for Scrubland and Karakas... well... We don't need to run it to protect us from legendaries as much as he needed to so swapping it to plains should be fine.
We obviously lose a lot of the juice from the deck with Stoneforge Mystic not being playable in the format as well as Umezawa's Jitte. We'll need to find alternate power cards for this slot. Something else that we lose is our protection in the form of Benevolent Bodyguard and Mother of Runes. We'll need to find a way to make our creatures protected since Skirsdag High Priest becomes our new power card. So far, I have the following listed as important includes:
I have a bw modern humans deck too. Personally i use boros elite as a additionnal one drop, it is quite good since you'Re likely to have many creatures on the battlefield.
Another sweet human is orzhov pontiff. Either pumps your team for the win or kills your opponent's army. He gets even better with cartel aristocrat as you can sac stuff to use his ability twice.
Ok, so this is where it's at now. I think that Lingering Souls makes for an excellent addition to add chump blockers and sac-able creatures on the fly.
7 cards shy and definitely under-streamlined. Just kind of brainstorming here.

Thalia's Lieutenant just made me look this thread up and revive it. How about the old Gatecrash humans deck? Run Lightning Mauler or Devoted Retainer/Elite Vanguard/Soldier of the Pantheon/Soul Warden or other better 1 drop. Frontline Medic was always pretty house, counters miracles well taboot. Obviously the deck wouldn't be T1 but it'd be pretty sweet, add some reach and power and we're there.
You could also take it another way and play Serra Ascendant with some of the Soul sisters as well. Might actually be better than soul sisters....
Honestly speaking, if it's modern we're after, I'd probably go the creature/aggro route because active gameplans are better. Another take on the deck could be a tempo/midrange with blue added. The blue humans all seems to support the lategame.
"If fetch lands are reprinted I really believe they will be in allied colors (aka Onslaught fetches). If the fetch lands are reprinted you better believe that we'll all be fetching up basics. This would lead me to believe that the set after THS may have a reprint as the temples can't be fetched but it's pure speculation." - posted 03/22/2014 proved correct during Khans spoiler season.
"The set releases for fall 2015 (Blood, Sweat and Tears) and fall 2016 (Lock, Stock and Barrel). One or both of those 2 blocks (I'm betting) are going to contain either Fetch reprints or (more likely) Filter reprints. Filter lands still need a reprint. They are getting pretty high up there and it's been longer than ZEN so it makes a little more sense that Filter lands would see print earlier that fetches." - posted 03/22/2014 proved incorrect about filters coming earlier than fetches, still pending on filters in Origins block.
Bygone Bishop is making me want cleric/spirit tribal now. They have some really good spirits. It seems like the humans deck would lend itself well to counters and the Gavony Township style of play. Much like G/W plays out.
We could throw some non-humans in the deck simply because they are awesome.
Wild Nacatl comes to mind if you're going naya.
Bant is one way to take it, but you miss out on all the disruption and removal that black brings, along with BoB's card draw. Time to make him good again. Throw in Gather the Townsfolk maybe.

Your guy's take on humans is considerably different than my own. My current list is only a slightly modified list from when I ran it in standard, and I'm missing the money cards (AKA Cavern) but the principle is the same. Humans have access to potent aggro in addition to hatebear and protection effects at very cheap costs. So, without further ado, here's my list as it currently stands:
Some things I've noted:
Thalia shouldn't be mainboard, but this isn't currently a tourney optimized list yet. The sideboard isn't completed yet either; Elite Inquisitor is only there more as a placeholder; while it's a good card, I don't feel like it ultimately helps us enough except when it's protections are in play, which I don't think is often enough. Loyal Cathar is there because of his resilience to board wipes. O-ring is there when playing decks that use permanents other than creatures. Fiend Hunter is in the list because it propagates our aggro while eliminating key threats.
Some cards that I think should be added:
Adding Fiendslayer Paladin would be strong choice due to his resistance to removal colors and lifelink. However, he's a 3 drop and that's honestly one of our strongest cmc groups. I'm thinking of pulling Thalia to sideboard and playing at least 3 Fiendslayers main. I have yet to test the impact on the curve though. I also think splashing blue in the form of Glacial Fortress and Seachrome Coast for Moorland Haunt is also a good idea. Haunt lets you get in that last bit of damage after a board wipe by re-using the creatures that you've lost. I have yet to fully review all the humans available in Modern, but I think already I have a solid base. Your thoughts?
EDIT: Also, I LOVE Thalia's Lieutenant and think it can replace Gather the Townsfolk. It is almost better in every way; the lone exception being if you're at 5 or less life. The fact that it works in synergy with Thalia is the icing on the cake!

Didn't know there was a thread here. Sharing my Human Soldiers list. Included the new Thalia's Lieutenant in my list among the new cards. It's a mix of Allies and Soldiers generally speaking.
Green lacking mass evasion, I tried Cavalry Pegasus with no success, I tried to overwhelm the board with 2x Collected Company with no success, and after playing a couple Rancors and 3 Abzan Falconers, well finally it worked out.
The main issue I had was Champion and Lieutenant were vanilla fatties and were to easy to block, and eventually to slow to race.
Noble Hierarch eventually added a better support than Student of Warfare or other 1-drops. It stretches the manabase very much though.
Exp 1 is an extra flyer with Falconer, it ended up being better than Warden of the First Tree or other common white 1-drops. Card is no good either, playing Gather the Townsfolk instead for now.
I easily cut 2 Mirran Crusaders because they're either great or atrocious (3 mana for a 2/2 that dies right away, meh).
What about Abzan Humans? You can get some great redundancy between Xathrid Necromancer and Abzan Ascendancy, getting a 3 power over 2 bodies every time a human dies is a pretty good deal.
A 3-color deck has to be better than Zoo then. I like the 2-color combinations because you can afford Mutavault and rarely lose tempo because of a color issue.
Among the cards you mention, Deranged Outcast looks unplayable. The slow "necroscendancy" package doesn't convince me at all. Probably been tested in Aristocrats, which is another archetype then.
The problem with Ascendancy is you need exactly BGW, which means a manabase entirely composed (but a few basics probably) of 2-color producing lands. Such an constrained build for a card that don't seem strictly better than the options we have on 2 colors. Also, Ascendancy doesn't do anything on an empty board. It's embarrassing for a 3-mana spell. In comparison a card like Rancor is just 1 mana, and you can still equip a Mutavault (while it's conditional to have 4 mana to play Ascendancy and activate Mutavault).
A WB version loves Champion though. Necromancer is a sideboard card to me. Unless you're playing Aristocrats, maybe...

Pioneer - A bunch of stuff Modern - Humans Legacy - Grixis Phoenix / Death & Taxes
Yeah necroscendancy is probably going to be too slow without enough removal to back it up, even with hierarch for fixing. I was thinking of deranged hermit for: sacrifice bloodsoaked, get a spirit get a zombie put 2 counters on something, decent for when you're empty handed but probably too conditional.
In my BW humans I've found Necromancer to be an absolute powerhouse. There's something about the interaction between Xathrid Necromancer, Skirsdag High Priest and Disciple of Griselbrand that's incredibly hard to beat; I remember staring down 2 wurmcoils and a sagu mauler with those and a gather the towns folk and winning. But I may try Bloodsoaked Champion instead. Or maybe just take out a priest, a disciple, a necromancer and a zealous for a playset.
I don't really think that B/W is the way to go unless it's an Aristocrats deck. Mayor of Avabruck is the only traditional lord we have (Thalia's Lieutenant is a bit more situational) so I can't see humans tribal working without him.
Talking about the G/W build, what do you think about Lambholt Pacifist ?
Vial really lets you get some explosive starts, but I find I'm hellbent often with the deck. Lots of fun though. Mana base is ready for Blood Moon, which I could run in the side if I had any. I hadn't thought of Soulfire Grand Master, seems like it would be a great sideboard card.
I think that you can replace A.Vial in your list.
It's not very good with only 21 creatures and you already have Cavern for protection against countermagic.
I'm taking a completely different track with humans. After initially running a bant list with grow, etb tricks, and that sort of thing I've reverted to a full on blitz tactic. This list is also on Modern Nexus if you wanted to check out the article. Fast, a punch in the face for most opponents.
I've been having a lot of success with my re-worked BW. I found that Wx weenie rush approach was too easily out classed by decks with a similar strategy like burn and zoo and outmatched by mid-range decks like junk and jund. So I tried a more mid-range tact and it's worked out well in testing so far,
Try it in a blink deck with Relivark backup. Fun fact: Aether Adept used to hold that slot until Reflector Mage was released. Blinking makes your Champion keep growing and the Golems carry into the late game well.
..but I guess we'll just have to see! Anyways, I'm going to post Sam Black's Legacy list and see where we can brainstorm it to from there.

What about Xathrid Necromancer? he is a human that gives value to other humans when they die...add HotP (or maybe Spear of Heliod) and Gather the Townsfolk like Panosls said and it may just work...
You could also take it another way and play Serra Ascendant with some of the Soul sisters as well. Might actually be better than soul sisters....
The "Base" should look something like this
4x Cavern of Souls
x Mutavault
X Utility land (Slayers' Stronghold, Gavony Township etc..)
1 Coat of Arms or other Anthem effect
X AEther Vial
X Dark Confidant
X Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
X Thalia's Lieutenant
X Champion of the Parish
Soldier of the Pantheon
Mayor of Avabruck
Timely Reinforcements
Mutagenic Growth
Vines of Vastwood
Mikaeus, the Lunarch
Bear Umbra for a "finisher"
Hyena Umbra if you just want the protection
The real question is... do we add blue for tricks? Or stick with Green for stability?
Delver of Secrets
Snapcaster Mage

I'm gonna stop now. I haven't had the time to put all these creatures together yet but I do see potential!

In a deck with Mayor of Avabruck/Thalia's Lieutenant and Champion of the Parish/Knight of the Reliquary/Tireless Tracker it should be activated quite often and in the worst case a 3/3 blocker for 2 isn't that awful.
Some other Humans' builds I'v brewed:
B/W Human Aristocrats:
4x Blood Artist
4x Cartel Aristocrat
4x Doomed Traveler
4x Loyal Cathar
1x Teysa, Orzhov Scion
4x Viscera Seer
4x Xathrid Necromancer
4x Zulaport Cutthroat
4x Return to the Ranks
Land (21)
4x Windswept Heath
4x Godless Shrine
1x Isolated Chapel
4x Plains
4x Polluted Delta
3x Swamp
1x Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
2x Anguished Unmaking
4x Rally the Ancestors
R/W Humans-Burn:
4x Ash Zealot

2x Kytheon, Hero of Akros
4x Monastery Swiftspear
3x Stormblood Berserker
3x Student of Warfare

4x Bloodstained Mire
4x Mountain
4x Plains
4x Sacred Foundry
4x Windswept Heath
4x Boros Charm
4x Lightning Bolt
4x Lightning Helix
4x Path to Exile
Other humans I considered for this deck:
Soulfire Grand Master, Seeker of the Way, Abbot of Keral Keep and Grim Lavamancer.
4 Flooded Strand
4 Hallowed Fountain
3 Glacial Fortress
2 Ghost Quarter
5 Islands
4 Plains
4 Champion of the Parish
3 Nephalia Smuggler
4 Blade Splicer
4 Reflector Mage
4 Wing Splicer
3 Master Splicer
2 Reveillark
