His list looks as a first draft of new archetype
I dont like that he doesnt have basics
Ancient Ziggurat works poorly with Vial and Mutavault (and Necrotic)
Why 4 Syphon but no Darkheart?
No Frenetic?
No Blur?
3 Necrotic makes this more a bad aggro, bad control list Mindlash Sliver kinda ok but definitely worse than Sidewinder. and Id prefer Virulent Sliver and Striking Sliver Bonesplitter Sliver and Shadow Sliver but no Automated Automaton?
He has one greedy manabase for sure. He should have at least one basic in there for Path or Ghost Quarter. And a turn 2 Blood Moon would shut his list down hard with his only out being Vial and a single Bonesplitter. I guess he figures the meta isn't playing much Blood Moon at the moment. He's probably right.
Seems a bit slower than 5 color Humans but more powerful mid to late game. Looks like he has tailored it to beat 5C Humans if you ask me.

I played FNM with fast slivers again this week, and again fell short of expectations. Started off really strong but dropped off quickly. This time it was mulligaing into oblivion that killed me. I had to mulligan 7 consecutive games and even went to 5 cards twice.
2-2 match record
Round 1 - 2-1 vs jeskai azcanta. Avoided wipes all 3 games but simply didnt have gas in game 2 so I lost that one. Should have mulliganed game 2 but went with a 4 land hand.
Round 2 - 2-0 vs burn. I wont count this as competitive as the burn pilot was around 12 years old. He had never seen slivers and was mystified in some of the key words stacking. Won with poison in game 1.
Round 3 - Tropical merfolk 0-2. Mulliganed to oblivion both games. Made a fight of it in game 1 only to have my 2 mutavaults turned into islands. N o gas in game 2 due to mulligans.
Round 4 - abzan elves 0-2. Mulliganed to oblivion both games. Made game 2 a fight but screwed up in combat and didnt account for ezuri.
I am going to switch back to traditional slivers for the GP in OKC and from here on until we can solidfy the fast slivers deck some. I want to change my list some though with the experience gained from fast slivers I want to get striking involved in traditional slivers.
I substituted sentinel for striking and godless shrine for blood crypt. This will help with the small creature decks and moon decks. I'm now running 9 red slivers ( 4 sedge, 2 blur, 2 striking, 1 homing). That seems like it would made a difference with the large amount of moon decks I faced. This also seems to make it go faster at points. The only problem I see is it having 1 toughness. That comes is vs Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite and similar effects. I'm glad that's not in the meta ATM.
The problem I'm usually running into is dealing with goyf tribal. I can deal with a shadow, delver, or snap, but those and goyf is too much. I wonder if it's time to bring back venom in the sideboard.
Also if you are having moon troubles a lot, You can go post board heavy on red, green, black and splash blue. This makes running off basics possible.
4-1 FNM 2nd/ 23 people
Round 1) 2-0 UB Through the breach
Sb) + 1 leaching, 1 syphon, 1 diffusion - 2 necrotic, 1 darkheart
O)This deck was geared toward comboing off. I think this is a MU to try to go fast. He sided in blood moons, but I'm not sure how worried we are if it's not a really early moon. I don't think chalice would be that good. We would probably want another creature.
Round 2) 2-0 UB breech + moon + Madcap
SB) + 3 harmonic, - 3 galerider.
O) This was one really close game and a non-game. This build was geared toward moon and stall. I choose to grind it out, but a race would have done well. Frenetic might have been good, bit I was afraid of not being able to cast it.
Round 3) 1-2 5c shadow
Sb) + 3 chalice, 1 diffusion, 1 chameleon, 1 hivelord - 2 striking, 1 darkheart, 2 necrotic, 1 mama
O) I stole a game on a lethal crack back. The other games he had tons of answers. This is a really hard MU because of huge creature and lots of removal. I got a hivelord on the field and he immediately dismember'd it. Chameleon sliver would have been good if i saw it. Also, chalice would be hard with them to deal with.
Round 4) 2-1 RW prison
Sb) + 1 leeching, 2 frenetic, 3 harmonic, - 4 galerider, 2 sinew
O) This deck didn't seem to have a win condition. They got walkers on the board, but I was able to vindicate them. I was able to get vial, mana sliver, or a hand full of red creatures. Also, frenetic is extremely good to deal with their board wipes and removal.
Round 5) 2-0 affinity
Sb) + 3 harmonic, 1 syphon -3 diffusion, 1 darkheart
O) I grinded out the first one and the second was a non-game. Gale rider is so key in this MU. Striking is good vs them and harmonic is really good.
SredniV that is a really sweet list. That reminds me of a legacy counter slivers build that I saw. The main things I would try with the list is upping the amount of thalia and chalice. I also adjusted the mana base to be able to get basics. The taxing and chalice can lock people out of the game while you turn creatures side ways. Also, I'd image you have issues with blood moon on that build. The increased thalia and more basics will make it better.
Chalice fixes ad nas, storm, lantern, and living end. Storm dies to chalice on 2. ad nas and lantern dies to chalice on 1. Living end has issues with chalice on 0. I added my changed list below. Counter Slivers
@SredniV
very unusual and list
I didnt try it but by looking at it I think it lacks speed of Fast Slivers and value town of traditional list
Also your curve differs a lot, with 21 land, mana sliver and 4 vials looks like your aim is Sliver Hive activation, do you grind out your opponents in every game?)
I like the idea of Selfless Spirit it can be nice card for wrath protection
Thalia on the other hand is not very synergistic, she is not a sliver and you have 9 non-creature spells
So this last Friday I played Traditional Slivers, after that I have made the following changes: -1 Sentinel Sliver -1 Mutavault +1 Striking Sliver +1 Blood Crypt and in side -1 Leeching Sliver +1 Striking Sliver. For the first time I ran 4 Mutavaults main during that event and i found myself unable to cast Sedge and Blur too often, so I am going back to 3 Mutavault and 4 shocks. I feel the Striking sliver will prove more useful that the Sentinel in the main.
have any of you guys thought about mb 4 manaweft and 2-4 gemhide slivers to make our deck a pseudo elf/gw value town deck? In exchange we opt out our vials? not only does this provide us with more explosive openings, it also removes vials from late game draws. If we cut out vials, we can possibly have more room for toolbox slivers.
I used to run 8 mana slivers main and 4 vials. This just felt really slow. I would constantly draw 2-3 a game and top decking a mana sliver with nothing on board is really bad. My friend recommended running 4 crumble to dust, 2 collective brutality, and 2 spell pierce in the side. It's a different way to deal with tron and combo. I had mixed results with combo and tron, do to that change. I think that setup dose not make it more explosive. The mana slivers and galeriders see the most removal spells. You would play a 1 drop, then mana, then coco, if there was no removal or counter spells. The traditional build still allows for the turn three coco and it's harder to remove them, when you vial them in at end if turn.
It would be a lot better in a slower meta with heavy blood moon or combo. The mana will let you cast creature through moon and cast thoughtseize effects for combo.
What do you think of an extra mana sliver as a 1 of or 2 ontop of the 4? You're okay running just 4 manawefts?
I run 3 manaweft and 2 gemhide. I have had someone bolt then surgical my manaweft. This was probably not a good play from my opponent, but they are hated a lot. I usually want one to coco on turn 3/4. I think 5 is the magic number to not flood, but have it when you need it.
1. W 2-1 VS dredge
2. W 2-1 vs Kiki exarch combo
3. W 2-1 vs e tron
4. L 0-2 VS grixis shadow
5. L 1-2 vs bant spirits
6. W 2-0 vs e tron
7. L 1-2 vs lantern
8. L 1-2 vs vizier combo
9. W opponent no show.
Full write up to come later. Really kicking myself over a few mistakes, but played very well considering.
Round 1: Dredge, W 2-1. On the draw, never really developed a board presence due to sub par draws, and it didnt help my opponent had very good dredges. He eventually swarmed me with 3 amalgams and 3 bloodghasts. Sideboard: +1 Relic +2 Syphon -3 Diffusion. On the play, I dropped a Galerider turn 1 and proceeded to lord turn 2 and Syphon turn 3 and gained up to 40 life. He eventually managed to kill the Galerider, but was unaware I had another in hand and as soon as I managed to kill his fliers, vialed it in and finished him. Game 3 on the draw was almost the exact same game as game 2. Galerider early into lord and Syphon. He didnt stand a chance with his very poor dredges.
Round 2: Kiki-Deceiver Exarch combo, W 2-1. I lost the die roll again, so on the draw. He plays a basic island turn 1 and passes, I had no clue what to expect. Dropped a turn 1 vial off a hive and passed. He eventually got a deceiver out and I realized what he was doing, and followed up the following turn with kiki jiki and the win. I did not sideboard. Game 2 on the play, I got going early with galerider and was happy to see a dismember in opening hand. He went for the combo on around turn 6, but I was ready with dismember, he remanded it so I played it again to ensure he didnt win instantly. He had no other plans and died shortly after. Game 3, my opponent saw very little interaction and I simply beat face for 5 turns to a win.
Round 3: Eldrazi Tron, W 2-1. This gentleman was a very sore loser, I was quite happy with my victory here. Game 1 on the draw (I cant win dice rolls to save my life). I end up watching him durdle looking for threats while having tron early but having no payoffs, while I beat face with 1/1s and 2/2s because I saw no lords but I still got the win. Game 2 on the draw, an All is Dust really set me back when I had him on the ropes and he followed it up with Ulamog and I quickly scooped. Game 3 on the play, again with the no lords but I managed to get there with flying 1/1s and 2/2s and hit both my Syphons off a coco with blur on the board. That attack sent the game to a point where I was up 29 to 2 and sealed the match.
Round 4: Grixis Shadow, L 0-2. Game 1 started off unusually, I won the die roll and got to play first however that was the only thing I won this round. I quickly ran out of gas as I flooded out on lands. Sideboard: +1 Colossus +1 Hivelord +2 Frenetic +1 Relic -4 Vial -1 Striking. Game 2 was not a game, I mulliganed to oblivion going down to 4 cards, it didnt seem too bad as my opponent was down to 5 himself, but I didnt see land #2 until turn 8.
Round 5: Bant Spirits, L 1-2. This match I am still kicking myself over, I should have made better choices and taken a mulligan. Game 1 on the play (getting better at this die roll thing...) I drop Striking into lord lord lord and easily overwhelmed him. Game 2 was the mistake, I should have mulliganed but the experience with shadow really dissuaded me from doing so. My 7 was 1 land, 1 vial, 3 2-cost slivers, 2 3-cost slivers; and I kept it. I struggled to find lands again and lost handily. Game 3 was also a error laden game. I got a necrotic out and took out a cavern, but he replaced it the following turn so I decided that land destruction was not the right plan. When I got my 4th land i cast coco main phase and fell into a trap, his coco in response hit a Queller and exiled mine and left me tapped out unable to activate necrotic and him with lethal on board.
Round 6: Eldrazi tron, W 2-0. This was nearly a bye for me, as my opponent mulled to 5 each game. I played my best magic this round. Game 1, Turn 1 Vial, Turn 2 manaweft, turn 3 Coco into a Blur, Sedge, and then Vial in a Darkheart with a swamp on play and swing for 9. Game 2 was a slaughter, I ended the game with 7 lords on board.
Round 7: Lantern Control, L 1-2. This started off as strangely as possible, my opponent failed to play a land until turn 4 and when I ended up winning I had no idea what he was playing, so no sideboarding. Game 2, he played spells, starting with an Inquisition on turn 1. Still had no idea at that time what he was on, but it became apparent the next turn when he dropped a mill rock. Once the bridges came down it was locked as my main only ran a single necrotic for this event. Side board: +1 Necrotic +3 harmonic -3 Diffusion -1 vial. Game 3 I made a mistake in not mulling to a Harmonic and ended up locked out by turn 5 because I had coco but only 3 lands, my opponent focused on keeping me off a land the rest of the game and ended up having all 4 cocos in hand at the end.
Round 8: Vizier Combo Abzan, L 1-2. Game 1 was simple, I failed to see my dismembers and fell prey to the combo on turn 5. broungh in 2 Warping wails from the side. Game 2 was also simple, I wailed his druid in response to a vizier and won the game. Game 3 was excruciating, he managed to take my dismember with Tidehollow Skuller and keep it gone with another when I killed the first. He eventually found the combo and used ballista burn.
Round 9: Figured I'd finish it up since I was already 8 rounds deep even though my chance at day 2 was gone. I sat there for 10 minutes and no one ever showed, got the 2-0 win due to no show.
I am pleased with how I played for the most part, I did make some mistakes that I will correct in the future. I feel we are kind of at the peak of our potential until we get some better slivers. We need cheaper more interactive abilities on our slivers. A cheaper Necrotic effect, a graveyard hate effect, maybe even a cheaper tutor, etc... I greatly look forward to April and the hope for more slivery shenanigans.
I would also like to extend congratulations to a couple locals from my area for making the top 8 of the GP. Michael Byars and Julian John are both people I play on a regular basis at one of the LGS's here in Northwest Arkansas.
I think you want to mulligan too much:)
"My 7 was 1 land, 1 vial, 3 2-cost slivers, 2 3-cost slivers; and I kept it" thats a great hand on the draw, snap keep. If you draw a land by turn 2 (2 draws) you are golden, otherwise not bad either.
Round 1 - Why side out the diffusion and not necrotic? Diffusion helps with Conflagerate?
Otherwise with bant spirits, it seems you know the deal now. I might have brought in a Warping Wail or 2 with Kiki Jiki as they can hit Deceiver Exarch and some lists play with with Eldritch Evolution. If nothing else, a mana dork is possible.
I chose the diffusion to cut vs dredge because my opponent seemed to not be aware of its potential, he missed an easy wipe early in game 1 with it but it didn't end up mattering that game.
Speaking to my mulligans, in hind sight I'd definitely should have kept the 7 vs grixis shadow even though it would have been super slow. The hand had 2 mutavaults, 1 cavern, 3 sedge and a 7th card i can't remember.

I would have kept it also But versus a black deck it would be very risky to keep due to thoughtseize and inqusitions. High risk but also high reward.
I dont think its risky. Yes if he has discard AND you miss several land drops then its bad. But if you mulligan and they have discard and you miss what you want for several turns then its bad also. Mulliganing vs Thoughtseize deck is not a good idea in general.
Hey everyone. I'm fairly new to this group and have mostly just been observing the conversation. I decided that I really liked the fast sliver lists and put one together. Been playing it for about a month and decided last minute to go to a SCG IQ this past weekend. My expectations were pretty low but I came away from the day top 8-ing. I lost one round in swiss to Bant Eldrazi and then in top 8 I lost to Colorless Eldrazi. Looking for suggestions for the matchup because it seems terrible no matter what. Thanks in advance.
My Results
1. W 2-0 VS R/G Ponza
2. W 2-0 vs 8 rack
3. W 2-0 vs grixis shadow
4. L 0-2 VS bant eldrazi
5. W 2-0 vs affinity
6. ID

L 0-2 vs eldrazi tron
Looking for suggestions for the matchup because it seems terrible no matter what. Thanks in advance.
You can use my list. Dismember, Mutagenic Growth, Spined Sliver, Adaptive Automaton, all these help in this matchups. Its positive from my statistics, especially Bant Eldrazi since its just a fair midrange deck unlike Eldrazi Tron which can abuse Endbringer and Walking Ballista
Revoker seems playable for sure. Selfless spirit im not sold on but glad to hear you've had good results. Ill have to give it some more consideration. Thanks.
Sidewinder Sliver is indeed a great card, I've been playing some legacy and pauper lately and its a game changer in legacy for sure against delvers and baleful strix. In the few games I've played it in modern it had a mild influence but mainly due to the match up.
I have been jamming games in MODO Tourney Practice Room with fast slivers (Timba's version) for the past week or so and very happy with it. It is true that I often have to explain the various mechanisms such as flanking, or difference in dealing poison with Virulent Sliver. Some opponents don't ask and then when they burned by Sidewinder they say "Oh now I understand how flanking works!" Overall, deck performs pretty well. Just try to avoid Blood Moon decks, and still struggle with big mana decks. Also combo if I have a slow hand. I am not entirely sold on using 2 Chalice in the SB. Maybe will give ThisisKraben sideboard with the extra Dismember over the Chalice.
Next Month is looking kind of exciting... there are three consecutive weekends in nearby (within 3 hours drive of me) cities hosting modern SCG IQ's and they are on Sundays so easily made by someone like me who works every single Saturday.

"My 7 was 1 land, 1 vial, 3 2-cost slivers, 2 3-cost slivers; and I kept it" thats a great hand on the draw, snap keep. If you draw a land by turn 2 (2 draws) you are golden, otherwise not bad either.

Otherwise with bant spirits, it seems you know the deal now. I might have brought in a Warping Wail or 2 with Kiki Jiki as they can hit Deceiver Exarch and some lists play with with Eldritch Evolution. If nothing else, a mana dork is possible.
Still nice job and congradulations!
Speaking to my mulligans, in hind sight I'd definitely should have kept the 7 vs grixis shadow even though it would have been super slow. The hand had 2 mutavaults, 1 cavern, 3 sedge and a 7th card i can't remember.
