I was playing around with the mindlash sliver because I want to go higher on the 1 drops. It's also a 1 drop that if the game goes a bit longer, it can lock your opponent out of the game with sliver hive. as you can make them discard in their draw step and it's something extra to play turn 1.
Round 1
I pulled an Adam Bowman. Was late due to an appointment so lost this round.
Round 2
Bant Eldrazi
My opponent was fairly new to the deck and I think we're a pretty good match up here unless they go turn 2 Thought-knot into turn 3 Smasher. I won this fairly easily 2-0.
Round 3
Jeskai Nahiri
My opponent managed to grind me out game 1 with lots of snapcasters and paths, I think I could have managed to win this, but I didn't play as well as I could. This is one of the matchups I have leyline of the void in the deck for - however didn't see them in the sideboarded games.
Game 2 I let my opponent get his Nahiri up to 8 counters, I had 5 land on the table and an aether vial on 3 counters. He searched up Emrakul and I vialled in necroctic sliver at the start of the combat step. Then activated and sac'd Mutavault to kill the Emrakul, which was a nice 2for1 getting rid of the Nahiri as well. The expression on his face was pretty golden as he had never played against slivers before and had no idea what was coming.
Game 3 he flooded out and I ran him over fairly easily.
2-1 win
Round 4
Aggro Elves (the b/g variant)
Game 1 I got my opponent to 1 and then he killed me with Ezuri (I think I messed up? But this was also a mull to 5).
Game 2 I ran him over first.
Game 3 he attacked me, I vailled in a lord and blocked, then dismembered his elvish archdruid netting me a sweet 3 for 1 and he couldn't come back from that.
2-1 win
Round 5
Naya Burn.
I mulled to 5 game 1 and lost.
Game 2 I had darkheart into Syphon
Game 3 I mulled to 6, didn't have a great start and he had goblin guide into double swiftspear for the super fast beats.
1-2
Round 6
R/G Trondrazi.
Game 1 I got stalled on 3 lands with no swamps so the 2 Sedge slivers weren't doing much at all. He eventually ugin'd and slaughtered me.
Game 2 He had some early thought-knots that took the telekinetic sliver and a collected company, but I drew some more collected companies and was able to go over the top.
Game 3 I had a really good draw and he had kept a sketchy hand with no coloured sources. So I managed to get over the top again.
Overall the deck ran fairly well, I finished 13th on breakers. A single 4-2 did make top 8 but sadly it wasn't me
I do want to add a striking sliver or 2 back in and get the 1 drop slivers up to 7. It's such a massive difference to have that early play. The mindlash sliver didn't come up at all so I'll keep it in the deck till I get a chance to try it out a bit more. I think it could be quite tricky, but it might end up being too cute. It does allow me to overextend into mass removal though. If I have 3 slivers and no hand, they cast an anger or wrath, they're looking at discarding 3 cards as well. So in certain situations it could be amazing.
I'm not sure about the sideboard. I like the thought of going back to chalices of the void, but my main issue is that I would be wanting to use them against burn and a lot of burn players put in artifact hate, so I like to remove those targets and leave them with dead cards. I will swap out a frenetic for a cautery sliver though. I was running 1 frenetic main, 1 side before Saturday due to the higher popularity of Jund, but it just wasn't as useful in the bigger event having two. Definitely a meta call.
I played Slivers on Friday. I went 3-0 vs. Death and Taxes, Suicide Zoo, and Temur Scapeshift. I used bowman's list outside of replacing the second overgrown tomb with a swamp.
Round 1 - Death and Taxes - 2-0
This was a new person to modern and to his deck. He didn't have a sideboard, but did have expensive cards. He thoughtseized wrong with Vigilence Sliver, but didn't take the lord or one of the 2 galerider or diffusion sliver that I had. I ran over him with flying lords both games. It wasn't a really good show case for slivers other than a quick win is a quick win.
Round 2 - Suicide Zoo - 2-1
These matches were pretty fantastic for both sides. I had the Sliver that I can sac for 3 life each and every game. I was able to get aether vial in a couple games that saved me as well even though an ancient grudge took one at one point. The first game I had to vial in a Harmonic Sliver killing my own aether vial to get another creature on the battlefield to block. Manaweft sliver to cast the swamp for regeneration was extremely crucial to my ability to out last him. In game 3, I found 2 Spellskites which was incredibly useful as they both died, one to a flashbacked ancient grudge and one to normal damage. I won back on the crack back. There were very fun, games about attacking/blocking and sequencing.
Round 3 - Temur Scapeshift - 2-1
There were games where he never found anything despite digging a lot. In one game he kept a hand of land and 4 cryptic command and I still got him. Warping wail was very useful in that game as he found 2 anger of the gods and I was able to counter the second. Thereby saving all my 4/4 creatures. In the first game, I had 4 slivers with Galerider, Diffusion, a Lord, and a Blur sliver. I cast a manaweft sliver and "Entered Combat Step" In response, he cryptic commanded tap down team. I floated five mana, 1 to activate the mutavault, 4 to cast collected company, and activated aether vial to put a Sedge Sliver on the field. I hit another lord and necrotic. I swung and won.

How much artifact hate do you think he sided in and did you find the spellskites and aether vials worth keeping in?
One thing I've done a couple of times against burn and naya is side out all the aether vials and leave them stranded with artifact hate in their hand. I've had a couple of games with burn players especially stuck with 2 destructive revelry or smash to smithereens in their hands at the end of the game and it's essentially a free mulligan or two.
I'm not sure of the viability of the strategy on the whole though so would be interested in hearing about some more experiences with decks packing artifact hate and whether we need the artifacts or not.
I think he sided in some ancient grudges. It would have been pretty good if I had drawn my second spellskite. He got an aether vial and 1 of my spellskites. The second one stopped him from comboing off.
Against, Burn, I don't side in Spellskites, but I do keep in Aether Vial. It hurts when they destructive revelry it, but it still costs them a turn to do so for only 2 damage for us. The amount of Tempo it provides if we get in our opening hand, I think it is worth the risk. 4 Artifact Destruction/4 Artifacts. I would just rather play it and take the risk. The amount of surprise lords, or surprise lifelink is incrediably valuable for it. It could lead to a dead card in our hand if it arrives later, but I think racing is still possible to put them on the defensive. I also like it to try to get around an Eidolon which can be problematic.
Vialing in Blur Sliver to cast a coco to protect a Syphon Sliver from a bolt effect is pretty awesome against burn.

I dont think siding in artifact hate is a good idea for Burn vs Slivers. Destructive Revelry easily can be dead, it doesnt give much if drawn late, basically its only good early vs early Vial and even then its not a win button. So I wont assume he is playing it. If he does I play Spellskite anyway and probably Vials
If you ahve Spellskites, you bring them vs Suicide Zoo no matter how much artifact hate he is going to side. Same for Aether Vial, your deck is slow without them (and you have to be fast in this matchup) and you have enough bad slivers to side out.
I havne't really played on Magic Online or the other magic games that could played online. I was thinking though of trying it, as I don't get out as much as I used to play magic.
I have never put a video up on youtube or played magic online, and I can't buy into it until maybe december to play Slivers. I am going to try it though, but I am by no means a skilled or quality player.
So I am seeing more lists experimenting with mindlash sliver in the side board lately... Can anyone provide the reason for this card? When does it come in and why is it good? I also see screeching sliver this one I like with all the lantern control and life gain strategies out there its good to have alternate win cons.
Heading to Grand Prix Dallas this weekend with my build. Will post it up later.
I think it is the same reason GB Elves play Thoughtseize. It is primarily in for I think 2 primary reasons.
1. It provides a positive matchup especially late game against Control or Removal heavy decks (possibly like Eldrazi/Taxes, Jund/Junk, etc.). Many of them rely on Card Advantage and top decking. If you are the sliver player, you are generally running out your threats by that point and not saving that much back for Sliver hiver or something else. While they are draw-going. This can make sure the miss land drops or 2 for 1 any removal spell that happens while you are hell bent. It is one of the same reasons that Darkheart is better than Syphon at times and Cautery can be brought in against those decks as well. You don't want parity. Control decks are likely as well to keep their win conditions in their hand for awhile after drawing them. By continuously removing cards, it provides choices for what they want to do, which in turn can give you damage or more time to gain advantage.
2. It provides a way to combat Combo decks like scapeshift, ad nausuem, or other combo decks. Since it is a symmetrical effect, it can beat Leyline that other effects can't. We know that Ad Nausuem is a decent Teir 2 deck that is probably rising in popularity and this is a way to combat these decks.
This is just my guess and I think the second reason is more compelling than the first.
Screeching Sliver is probably for Lock/Prison type decks including Worship. It is also there probably for Serum Vision type decks like Combo decks as well.

I think its not worth it. Very weak on its own. Its ability rarely becomes live to gain an advantage. We have Frenetic for that.
I do think that people might want to run 1-2 of Striking Sliver and maybe more. To combat much of the Fast decks like Dredge, Suicide Zoo, Affinity, and possibly infect. The ability to kill a creature without a cost to you is enormous. First Strike gives you that capability in some regards like regeneration to fight against Dredge's constant recursion.
So I went to GP Dallas this last weekend... I cut Diffusion Sliver down to 3 copies for this event and paid for it heavily. I ran into so many removal decks and couldnt protect my board. I am definitely going back up to 4 in the main. Matchups were: Bogles 1-2, Affinity 2-0, Jund 0-2, Burn 0-2, Naya Zoo 1-2, Super Sunday Series Infect 2-0, Infect 0-2, Burn 0-2, Hate bears 2-0.

In my opinion 1 card (and pretty close one, you wouldnt have cut it if it had been so good, right?) doesnt matter much, maybe 1-2 game results
Could you please post your list Ekienhol? I am not sure Diffusion Sliver is where we want to be against Burn? I am happier if they kill our creatures then turn that burn to us.
Bogles seems a difficult matchup if we can't get online fast enough and not find Harmonic Sliver. Striking Sliver as a tech card could be good as well. Nice job on Affinity and winning an infect matchup.
I can see infect being really bad for us if they are on the Blighted Agent plan.
What happened during your Burn games? I generally have done well against Burn. It can be tight, but while we can't race them, we can certainly trade as we are just better in the longer grindier games. I learned to play burn with Elves and Merfolk and it is fine if we can trade creatues, although searing blaze is certainly a larger issue.
In rounds 3-5 of the main event I swear I hit at least 3-4 paths, bolts, and decays each and every game. Against Bogles in game 1, I put out a turn 1 Striking sliver that was immediately pathed. Game 2 vs Bogles I hit a Harmonic and removed every enchantment he played and game 3 didnt get a harmonic. Affinity was fairly easy when the other guy mis-counted his artifacts to sac and only hit for 9 infect in game 2. Most matches it felt like draws were always the wrong card at the wrong time.

Sounds like luck wasnt in your favor this tournament. Thanks for the repport though. I had hoped you would write one Even so with Skred Red winning the whole thing, whats not to expect from Slivers
About the decklist you submitted personally im pretty much spot on on almost all spots. Expect I would probably remove a single Sentinel Sliver if not both. Up Mutavault to 4. Also care to enlighten why you want to include a Breeding Pool? Im finding it hard to find a scenario where you would want to fetch for that. Arent maximum amount of acess to swamps where we want to be regarding Sedge Sliver?
Breeding Pool is only in there until I can acquire a Watery Grave. My 75 is foiled out so finding a Watery Grave is a bit trickier.
Has anyone ever thought about adding a living end to the sideboard for those removal heavy decks? I mean we play loads of swamps for sedge sliver and all we have to manage is to survive two more turns after casting it and then in response use one of the many sac outlets to put our board into the grave and get all the destroyed creatures back as well. (necrotic sliver, darkheart sliver, frenetic sliver)
In my personal experience, I generally don't have 2 swamp sources on line a lot of the time even against grindy decks. It could work mind you, but that is a very long time against jund, grixis, jeksai nahiri. As soon as you cast it, they know they have 4 turns to find another boardwipe or cast Nahiri and win, etc.
I may play in an IQ + on sunday. I am not sure what 75 I will bring, but it will mostly likely include Striking Sliver. I am not sure whether to include Relics and Warping Wail in the Side or both and take out some of the fringier hate slivers.
Hey guys, Been away for a while... I'll get a pic of the foiled deck soon. I located someone with a foil Watery Grave and should have it tonight to swap out the Breeding pool in my list.
FNM report
Played the Fast Sliver variant discussed several pages ago... will post list if someone asks. So I decided to give it a try. LGS limits Modern to 4 rounds, so here was the results.
Round 1: R/G Titan Shift - 2-0. Opponent saw no interaction, No bolts, No burn of any kind. Killed him turn 4 game 1 with poison. Turn 5 game 2 with normal damage.
Round 2: Mardu Nahiri - 0-2. Got opponent to 2 before he stabilized in game 1, once stabilized he emrakul'd me. Game 2 was Kalitas all the way.
Round 3: G/W Tokens - 1-2. Very good match... all 3 games went right down to the wire. In game 3 damage from mana confluence did me in.
Round 4: Burn - 2-0. ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED!!! Game 1, killed on turn 3 with poison... T1, land, virulent. T2, land, galerider, virulent, swing 1 damage, 2 poison. T3, land, virulent, swing 3 damage, 9 poison. Game 2 won with life gain.
It felt quite competitive in matches without much interaction, however, any set backs were near fatal.
So I have been playtesting my own take on slivers. I have not been convinced by aether vial in the deck, I feel like every time I have it I would've rather had another sliver more in hand. Collected Company on the other hand pulled it's share of the weight every single time, either as a tempo / card advantage or a good way to recover from a removal heavy matchup.
To compensate for the tempo loss of not playing an aether vial I decided to include multiple copies of sentinel sliver, gemhide sliver and manaweft sliver. Furthermore a chalice of the void in the maindeck has paid it's dividend multiple times over. There is just something good about dropping a chalice for X=1 on turn 2 and stopping so many bolts, paths, and cantrip spells the current meta is so heavy on.
In almost all the matchups I felt I was slightly favored and so far also had some good results against tier decks. Jund is extremely difficult, as their deck is designed to play against exactly the type of deck sliver intends to play. Frenetic Sliver and a chalice of the void on 2 are my only hopes of winning this matchup.
The worship in the sideboard has actually won me some games against combo matchups, at least in game 2 before they get an answer from their own sideboard.
Anyway, long story short: here is my current decklist, tell me what you think.
4 Galerider Sliver
3 Diffusion Sliver
1 Gemhide Sliver
2 Manaweft Sliver

Breeding Pool is only in there until I can acquire a Watery Grave. My 75 is foiled out so finding a Watery Grave is a bit trickier.

I may play in an IQ + on sunday. I am not sure what 75 I will bring, but it will mostly likely include Striking Sliver. I am not sure whether to include Relics and Warping Wail in the Side or both and take out some of the fringier hate slivers.
How did you do at the IQ Worldsaverinc?
