Agree with DHCell, the Puresteel Paladin build is most competitive in my opinion. I built a monowhite vial version went 8-8 in the Mtgo Modern Constructed leagues and 2-man queues. The Puresteel version is currently 10-5 so I'm sticking with that one for now on Mtgo. Instead of steelshapers gift and Worship, I opted for 4 vials instead. Lands at 4 Caverns, 1 Mutavault, 2 Tectonic Edges. Threw in an infiltration lens instead of bladed bracers also but otherwise same build. Pleasantly surprised with how the deck is working and recommend people give it a shot.
I do not recommend the full set of caverns, sometimes u have an akward hand with 2 caverns, no plains, and a [[Student of Warfare]]. [[Worship]] is something that already saved me a few times, mainly against no interaction combos, so I keep it. [[infiltration lens]] is cute, but too situational.
I think vials are better in a non-puresteel build, because u will have more dudes to vial into
So I've had a Knights deck for quite some time but it's never been more than a good kitchen table deck. I recently traded in a lot of cards to a couple game shops and now I'm sitting on a fair amount of store credit. I've always wanted to make my Knights deck as competitive as I can so I've been pondering lists and looking over some other decklists out there, including some in this thread. This is what I currently have on paper. Minus the sideboard I'm about 18 cards shy of this list. I think right now my main sticking point is whether to go with Collected Company or not and if so is 4 of or 3 of a better number?. I was also debating Rancor instead of CoCo. So any comments or suggestions before I drop all my store credit on these shinies? Also anyone think Heron's Grace Champion would be a good include for Knights in general? Thanks in advance
Round 1 vs. Sultai Midrangeish (2-0)
Game 1 I keep a hand with triple-Mirran Crusader, which made his green dudes very sad. Game 2 I had the dream start of Hierarch, Crusader and Elspeth, but he chumps with a Clique and has the Maelstrom Pulse for my planeswalker. He casts Damnation, but I win off the back of a Mutavault and a few beaters.
Round 2 vs. Jeskai Control (2-0)
Game 1 he has a poor hand and only plays a cryptic command before the game is over. Game 2 he has a Verdict, but I quickly fill the board again and end up attacking for exact lethal, thanks to Battlecry and Spellskite not having defender.
Round 3 vs. Ad Nauseam (2-1)
Game 1 I have the Hierarch, Crusader, Elspeth, but he kills me on his turn 4 (got him to 3). Game 2 he seems to draw poorly and I get a ton of power before he can combo off. Game 3 I end up having Stony Silence, Thalia and Gaddock Teeg against his board of 3 Lotus Blooms and four lands. Yeah.
Round 4 vs. Suicide Zoo (1-2)
Uh-oh, this matchup is really tough. Game 1 he gets double Death's Shadow, goes down to 2 and hits me for a million. Game 2 he floods out and I stabilize on 7 health, before buying enough time with a large Knight of the Reliquary to finish him. Game 3 I keep a sketchy hand and he has a sick draw.
Round 5 vs. EldraziTron (2-1)
Game 1 he has a turn 3 Reality Smasher, but my Student hits for 5 thanks to Exalted triggers, and I have a path for his dude. I remove his Endbringer with a charm, and he doesn't get a sweeper. Game 2 he has oblivion stone, ratchet bomb and Ugin. I get him sorta low, but can't recover from the Ugin. Game 3 I get the nuts draw and kill him on turn 4.
Thoughts and observations:
The deck played really well. I had three games to Hierarch->Crusader->Elspeth, hit you for 12. Since I opened an Avacyn, I decided to try her out, although I never actually got to cast her - One time I was short the mana, and one time the game was over before I was able to. She seems sweet, but my gut feeling is CoCo is better, although flying is very relevant.
I decided to stick a pair of Selesnya Charms in there. They worked alright, one time being a beater on turn 2, one time removing a Endbringer. I'd say it's probably the most versatile 2-drop, but it does lack the synergy with CoCo and Vial, which is why it should only be run in lists that run neither. I did kind of miss the Knight of Meadowgrains a bit.
Elspeth was awesome all around. Being able to cast her on turn 3 makes a huge difference. Bladehold was kinda iffy - Most of the time I'd rather have a CoCo.
I never actually got to cast a sword today; I pretty much never drew them.
I feel like I'm lacking a removal, so I might give the red splash a try. Lightning bolt plus helix in the sideboard seems strong. This would also give access to Kessig Wolf Run, which is amazing with first/double strike, and can be fetched with KotR.
New Tamiyo seems to slot in well to this deck.

On mtgsalvation people don't want to discuss ideas, so I give people something else to discuss: my controversial opinions.
Anyone playing Darth Knights with Haakon, Stromgald Scourge should be giving Collective Brutality a spin. It has been a real power house for me in my budget build. Second or 3rd turn it hits rather hard. The siphon for 2 is always useful and against most other decks you will have a valid target for at least one of the other two abilities. It also allows a 3rd turn Haakon, which is no small feat.

It seems like a good fit. Collective Brutality wants a home where cards want to be discarded. I don't hold much hope for a Modern Madness deck but there are numerous graveyard-based strategies that can Collective Brutality can serve well.
I have long wanted to build Darth Knights and I bought the cards long ago and STILL haven't gotten around to it.
Darth Knights is proving pretty fun. I have been playtesting both, a B verison and RB verison and I far prefer the later. I took out Stromgald Crusader and put in Fervent Cathar and it has been highly effective because of the haste. Likewise I replaced Black Knight with Knight of Infamy. The idea is, the turn after I cast Haakon, I need the creatures I am casting from the bin to be helping in some way the turn they come out, because I usually don't have the mana to cast an army, nor do I need one.
I almost went with splashing white, but because of my budget I knew I couldn't get my hands on competitive black card draw. Sign in blood, nor Read the Bones were cutting it. That forced me to go with red for Faithless Looting, which I have not regretted because of how synergistic that card is. As my budget improves for a better manabase, I suspect the best build for Darth Knights is WBR.
It might be gank, but I have also been enjoying Crack the Earth, in fact i think I am preferring it over Smallpox, as sacrilegious as that sounds. I have attacked turn 3 with Blooksoaked Chmapion (My budget replacement for Gravecrawler, then cast Crack the Earth, sac'ing Bloodsoaked, then I use his ability to bring him back him.
Thanks for the offer, but no need! I am going to a modern tournament in Toronto in September, I'm sure I'll find one there. That is the reason why I am working on a modern deck actually. I plan to spend most of the day playing EDH, but I expect some people will want to practice between registration and the official start time.
I have since dropped another $15 to turn it into this. Mana base is till being tuned, and the black knights are place holds because I cannot figure out what needs to be there yet.
I find that Crack the Earth functions identically to Innocent Blood, but will occasionally be more effective and force my opponent to sack a land. Smallpox is much more potent, but I always find myself second guessing when I should be casting it. I took it out when I splashed red, but it may be the lacking card draw in my original mono-black build that was hampering my ability to use it. Regardless, I am always more confidant using Crack the Earth, and I don't think it will coexist with Smallpox. It has to be one or the other.

I am open to suggestions, budget or otherwise.
Without fetch-lands, I think I like Foreboding Ruins better than Smoldering Marsh. Of course, one can use both and perhaps you should.
For the two flex spots, the Stromgald Crusader's you took out are worth a thought. They are pump-able and can get flying so they can help with the big finish.
It's tough to make recommendations when budget's involved and budget talk is frowned upon in competitive forums anyway - though I doubt anyone will notice here - but anyway. . .
Blackcleave Cliffs has gotten fairly expensive, but Blood Crypt isn't as bad and neither is Bloodstained Mire, both of which this deck yearns for. A couple of Shock-lands per color combination is all one usually needs provided there are enough fetches so two Crypts, four Mires and a few more B or R fetches would set you up quite well.
The Not-Bobs could be tried out in some number. Neither Bob-Zombie, the new, Not-Bob nor the other recent Not-Bob are expensive cards but they are, as I have alluded, not Bob.
This has definitely rekindled my interest in Haakon. Good luck with it.
I dropped red from the deck. The only red card that was worth it's weight was faithless looting, but I can't justify spending on the manabase needed to make it consistent. When I could use it second or 3rd turn, it was great. Top decking after 5th when I was hellbent, no so much.Crack the Earth's lack of a discard clause was hurting consistency, for both putting Haakon in the bin and disrupting my opponent, so I had to put Smallpox back in.
I did find a card advantage solution for Mono-B Darth Knights. Smuggler's Copter. I know this card is getting a lot of attention right now, but I think scratches the exact itch the deck needs. It provides card draw, costs 2cc, it is a discard outlet, it has evasion, and it works well with my sub-themes. I have already pre-ordered 4 at $7 cdn.
I also dropped my targeted discard suite on the advice of one of the tournament players at the Toronto WMCQ. He was watching me play casually the day before at the card shop and noticed my Duress / Despise would fail to find a target sometimes. He pointed out that unless I was using thoughtseize, that would could always happen. He advised me to focus on straight hand destruction over targeted. Based on that I added Raven's Crime and Funeral Charm. Collective Brutality still works to take out most removal, which is what I am most worried about, and I never cast it for just one ability anyway.
Funeral charm has been an all star so far. I think I have used it as pump / removal spell more often that I have used it for discard. With this much self discard, I see potential for Alms of the Vein to be explosive, but I'll have to play with it more.
I am new to this arc-type and I have some questions for you. I read the last couple of pages and was wondering if someone could help me out with some of the card choices. For one why Noble Hierarch over Aether Vial? Also is Coco still the go to option for GW?

Any help, or leads on what to do next would be great thank you.
I have pretty much given up on Aggro knights, and I never got around to adding G, but I'll venture a comment.
Fiendslayer Paladin seemed better than Paladin en-Vec most of of the time. I sometimes ran en-Vec in the side-board when Burn was prevalent, but Fiendslayer was a house in that match-up. Meadowgrain turn-two into Fiendslayer turn-three was pretty much game-over.
If I were to try Knights again, it would probably have to be Bant with Retreat to Coralhelm.
Noble Hierarch + CoCo is probably still the best option for "Knights".
A slower mana-dork option (thst can't tap for White) is Steward of Valeron, but he can also help cast CoCo on turn 3 and is a Knight that can attack better than Noble.H.
All you guys brewing B or BR haakon knight variants, has anyone tried Olivia, Mobilized for war? A moderately costed, flying discard outlet that has more power than most of our knights, and can give our knights haste straight up.
The creature count seems pretty low for a CoCo deck and Noble Hierarch would be the more optimal inclusion over Steward of Valeron (despite not being a knight) for mana-curve reasons and the general speed of the deck (it also taps for white unlike steward).
Lightning Greaves seems unnecessary (Brave the Elements is better and doubles as evasion) and Gideon while good doesn't actually work in a CoCo list so might be better as a SB card for midrange match-ups.
I'd max out on mana dork and CoCo and remove Aether Vial as it lowers your threat density and the quality your topdecks.

A slower mana-dork option (thst can't tap for White) is Steward of Valeron, but he can also help cast CoCo on turn 3 and is a Knight that can attack better than Noble.H.
Honor of the Pure, Rancor and the Sword don't seem worth it imho.
A decent spell option can be Dromoka's Command.
The best curve-toppers for the deck (non-CoCo version) are:
Gideon, Ally of Zendikar, Wilt-Leaf Liege and Hero of Bladehold.
Some notable creatures absent from your list (MD):
#Knight of the Holy Nimbus - a difficult to kill creature, combo's with Suppression Field and Day of Judgment in Mono-White.
#Leonin Skyhunter - an evasive 2-drop, gets better with anthems/lords.
#Mirran Crusader - one of the strongest Knights ever printed.
I would suggest a build like this:
4x Noble Hierarch
4x Student of Warfare
4x Leonin Skyhunter
4x Knight of Meadowgrain
4x Knight of the Reliquary
4x Knight Exemplar
4x Mirran Crusader
4x Path to Exile
2x Brave the Elements
4x Collected Company
Land (22)
4x Razorverge Thicket
3x Temple Garden
4x Windswept Heath
2x Wooded Foothills
2x Flooded Strand
3x Forest
3x Plains
1x Gavony Township

Knight of the White Orchid is rather weak (and the land fetching is situational), I'd suggest the evasive Leonin Skyhunter instead.
Knight of the Holy Nimbus is another good option for attrition games and Spectral Rider is another evasive beater.
Metallic Mimic might be a decent 2-drop pseudo lord for the deck.
2x Scavenging Ooze
2x Stony Silence
2x Thalia, Heretic Cathar
2x Qasali Pridemage
2x Dromoka's Command
1x Selfless Spirit
1x Phyrexian Revoker
1x Kataki, War's Wage
1x Eidolon of Rhetoric
1x Aven Mindcensor
There are of course other options as well:
#Loaming Shaman or Tormod's Crypt against GY's (I prefer Scavenging Ooze).
#Gideon, Ally of Zendikar, Wilt-Leaf Liege, Hero of Bladehold, Chameleon Colossus - a big threat against midrange decks.
#Paladin en-Vec and more Brave the Elements - against removal heavy red decks (primarily).
# More removal like: Declaration in Stone (Journey to Nowhere), Oblivion Ring, Beast Within.
#Pithing Needle against activated abilities (PW's and manlands).
#Blessed Alliance and Fiendslayer Paladin - against Burn.
#Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, Ethersworn Canonist - against combo and other spell-heavy decks.
4 knight of meadowgrain
4 Puresteel paladin
4 mirran crusader
4 knight Exemplar
4 Bone Saw
4 Bonesplitter
4 path to Exile
2 swords of feast and famine
2 swords of war and Peace
4 basilisk collar
I was contemplating Fiendslayer Paladin instead of mirran.
