anyways, What are your guy's thoughts on Skylasher in a blue heavy metagame? Especially after the world champs being won by UWR? I understand it just dies to bolt, but you're casting it end of their turn, so you're likely to get at least one hit and untap, by then you can protect it. It can't be blocked by Snapcaster, Clique, Colonnade, etc. (and blocks them all day on defense).

If you're really afraid of GoST and Delver, definitely play skylasher. Otherwise, the cannot be countered isn't too important with no evasion or resitance to R or W.
If playing green, I'd say that there are better options for simply landing a creature.
If you believe it could work, by all means, test it.
Lastly, I think more aggressive strategies are what this deck fears most.
Familiar's Ruse + Coilling Oracle or Mystic Snake is perfect.
Plasm Capture + Plow Under or Treasure Cruise or Boomerang or Tarmo can turn any match in our favor.
Note it has a good mana curve of counters.
Also can disrupt mana bases.
Midrange tempo with cards adventage, mana disruption, affective cards and solid mana base.
combo with kitchen finks for extra finks per turn
combo with glen elendra archmage for extra glen elendra counters soft lock of some kind
combo with mystic snake duhz lol
Dear god this thread is a magnet for being necrod. Do people ever look at last post dates?
Anyways, why not play Edilon of Rhetoric to pin a lot of decks down while still casting spells on a fairly consistent basis since pretty much everything is usable at instant speed. I feel like its one of those things that looks good on paper, but wouldn't actually work.
hello! i'm a big simic fan so b4 this site dies i want to throw a little something here im working on.
the best part of playing dudes with a control back is trying to go tempo! in other words i like to try and play as many things on my opponents turn as possible. a lot of ppl are doing that in simic nexus atm with splendid reclamation but i want to try Vivien, Champion of the Wilds in something like this from the value i used to get with Aether vial and eternal witness. so here we go with a sword control variant:
cryptic command x2
admiral's order x3
beast within x2
Sword of light and shadow x1
Sword of fire and ice x2
Sword of feast and famine x2
Forest x6
Island x3
Breeding Pool x4
Misty Rain forest x4
Polluted Delta x2
Mutavault x2
Field of Ruin x2
it is very based on a U/g Faeries list Frank Lapore posted in 2014 but the meta has changed a lot. were i do like spellstutter sprite and mistbind clique i felt as tho giving dudes flash with Vivien would be better with casting threats.
coiling oracle with tireless tracker came to mind. tireless is never tired of getting 1/1 counters.
i put trophy mage in because of the flash getting swords is like a weaker version of stoneforge mystic and thats banned for a reason. this might work.
you could put scavenging ooze here for more scaling and help with phoenix and dredge i guess the new combo with suntitan and kaya's ghostform and the like.
glen elendra just sounds good. triple evasion and who doesn't like negate for 1?
having a few witness let you have chumps for days but you can also loop it with cryptic command for turbo fog or getting in with combat.
This is my version of U/G Tempo. I started out with a lot more Green. I once played UG back in standard with Tarmogoyf, Quirion Dryad, Coiling Oracle, and a bunch of bounce spells. It's possible I should still try the full bounce plan, but for now I like the full flash suite of creatures. Ice-fang coatl is hands down my favorite card from the new set. It's turn four before his deathtouch comes online, but that still seems early enough in testing. Spellstutter sprite is great against control and infect as their spell pierce can't do anything about it. Rebuying it or Ice-fang with ninjas is pure card advantage. Swords just provide an endgame that doesn't leave you completely open.
i'm glad to see that my sword control idea isn't completely dated. btw if you flash one in and have dupes, you can get DT on him by turn 3. i am running into 1 issue tho. infect and burn.
you know, infect can get that T2 swing while you're on your way the turn after or people just bolting the dorks.
the other issue i have is the T3 play. I can attempt 1 of these lines of play:
A) equip target, if it lives past the declare attackers step, order is active for U.
B) before attackers use the dork(not swinging with a 0/1 bird) for mystic snake.
C) cry and play a 2nd dork
Echoing truth is good against a host of targets, Phoenix, think in the ice, Hogaak. I can also hit non-creatures like Aria. Infect I'm 2-0 against. They can win turn 2, but aside from that draw I have enough counterspells and tempo to slow them down. I've twice stolen their infect creature with archmage charm. It also helps that their main defense is Spell Pierce which does nothing to stop spellstutter Sprite from countering something or ice-fang with deathtouch from killing their creature. I only equip when I have no other interaction available or if I know I'll connect with Feast and Famine to untap. I've made a few changes, but it's mostly been to add String of Disappearances over Wizard's Retort as I wanted more interaction.
i was at a MH1 draft last night and i was talking to one of my buddies about the infect MU and i mentioned Vapor Snag and blossoming defense for that slot to help fight bolt, push, path which both snag and string also can do but you would lose a swing. but the latter they would also lose a swing and thats pretty big imo. my build is primarily green but i'd like to try force of negation in my 75 because of trying to get the first contact.
development on this is tricky with the lack of viable removal

I think rewind is just about as useful as plasm capture here, sadly.

B) Eternal Witness seems like it's probably a must in a deck trying to abuse Familiar's Ruse at which point maybe you should look at the Eternal Ruse primer...
I'm just in early testing but here's what my list is like right now:
4x coiling oracle
4x wall of omens
1x snapcaster mage
4x blade splicer
4x mystic snake
4x restoration angel
2x thragtusk
4x momentary blink
4x path to exile
3x bant charm
1x voidslime
1x supreme verdict
4x kitchen finks
4x meddling mage
2x stony silence
2x reclamation sage
2x qasali pridemage
1x supreme verdict
Not sure what mix to use of pridemage, thragtusk, finks, or maybe acidic slime. Nor if I want/need counters in the main besides the snakes.
* Esper Draw-Go
* Tezzeret Whir
* Blue Tron
combo with kitchen finks for extra finks per turn
combo with glen elendra archmage for extra glen elendra counters soft lock of some kind
combo with mystic snake duhz lol
i wonder
