Its too slow, dies to removal, has too few creatures consistently, can't seem to get Tamanoa out consistently, etc... If you have any ideas on how to optimize this deck I would greatly appreciate it. With this deck I didn't expect to win any tournaments any time soon, but its absolutely terrible. 30 games in with this deck, even against some of my friend's super budget decks ($20-$50) it just get completely destroyed time and time again; managing to win an astonishing 3-4 games.
Basically, this deck revolves around a lot of removal and life gain. With Tamanoa, every instance of damage from a source I control--like my large usage of pain lands-- buffs cards like Ajani's Pridemate. I tried t I tried to compensate for the little amount of creatures on the battlefield with their size, but as you could imagine, removal always sucks me dry. Usually, every creature enters the battlefield with 4 toughness but still. Even when I do manage to get all of my creatures I need, life gain doesn't seem to be nearly ideal enough to take on aggro/rush/large amounts of enemie/burn. On the plus side, my mana base gets me consistently what I need.
So if you have better options (preferably budget) of cards or combos that could possibly help my deck, that would be awesome.
I would either add acceleration via cards like birds of paradise to get manabarbs faster or play better cards with the combo as a backup
. Also, I’d play less painlands because if the combo isn’t assembled they are bleeding. I could see a midrange deck with effiecient threats such as woolly thoctar and wild nacatl with meditation as a back up plan.
It's certainly not a finished project, and the sideboard needs a lot of work, but it's been proving ok in the MTGO Casual room (and in tournament testing against creature decks like Elves). The planewalkers combine nicely with Tamanoa to regain life. Chandra, Torch of Defiance would obviously be better than Pyromaster, but Pyro is much cheaper right now (.56 on MTGO) and the others are right in line with that. The deck should have at least one Searing Meditation in the main, because it's the best engine possible with Tamanoa, but very mana hungry.
I only have one Archangel of Thune online, but if you keep 3 of them in like you have, then you should really add in Spike Fdeder for the infinite life/counters combo.
If your local meta is creature heavy, some tweaks to this could do the trick.
P.S. The Blasphemous Act is just there to "live the dream" and gain a ton of life from wiping the board with a Tamanoa out (I mean, it dies, but still...)

Moved to the Budget subforum.
Soulfire Grand Master could be a good inclusion as redundant copies of Tamanoa. It works well with Lightning Bolt and Lightning Helix.
I'd advocate for removing Life Goes On, as there are definitely better option.
