I'm pretty much hammering out a super low budget deck to take to FNM. I wanted something different for Modern but familiar to me. I played Thallids back during Time Spiral standard so I looked into it. I don't have a sideboard together yet but i figure Mycologist for burn and Vizier of Remedies in place of the Winding Constrictor against infect. I know Boggles is big around here so maybe Smallpox?
I'd suggest something like 3-4x Nihil Spellbomb in the sideboard for Dredge/graveyard strategies since you're playing Black.
Also I have zero experience against Bogles but I'd probably go with something like Back To Nature or Cruel Edict. 2 Black for Smallpox seems like it might be hard to do given your manabase. On that note, Llanowar Wastes is less than a dollar on TCGplayer if you want to get some cheap duals.
Well, I can't attest for it's speed, but Grim Affliction would tick up all your thalids on spore counters as well as Contagion Clasp. You may also want to consider Sporoloth Ancient. Myocoloth is good, but the Sporoloth Ancient reduces the cost to make tokens by one counter, which is pretty relevant if you're going for a go wide strategy. Also, since the deck is going to be slower than most other decks, Thallid Shell-dweller can fit the theme and help against decks that try to rush in. It's also outside of early game red removal range, so there is that as well.
1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
Seymour_TUBES: Man, I didn't realize the enemy painlands were so cheap right now. I guess they did get 2 recent reprints. Thank you for the sideboard suggestions. I like Back to Nature, that's a pretty cheap way to strip the Boggles down. I'll definitely keep these in mind when working out the rest of my sideboard.
colt47: I have been on the fences with a lot of those. Shell-dweller or OG Thallid, Contagion Clasp or Necrogenesis and Mycoloth or Sporoloth Ancient. I may have some join the sideboard and I may have to test others.
4x Deathspore Thallid
2x Mycoloth
1x Psychotrope Thallid
3x Sporesower Thallid
4x Thallid

3x Vitaspore Thallid
3x Winding Constrictor
4x Sandsteppe Citadel
8x Swamp
4x Fists of Ironwood
2x Necrogenesis
2x Putrefy
3x Duress

You may also want to consider Anointed Procession or Parallel Lives, since both double the number of tokens you make on each pass.
Populate is a really good mechanic for the deck as well to make use of. Sundering Growth, Druid's Deliverance, Rootborn Defenses, etc.
