Once Upon a Time sounds like a very good card in a lot of decks too. For us, it's Forger 9-12, as well as more digging for sideboard pieces. My only problem is that if I were to draw a OUaT later in the game, I wouldn't feel too good.
I think Grum really needs to be in the less explosive versions (Vial) of the deck since those tend to take advantage of Wolf and Elemetal tokens a lot more.
In my experience with running Oath of Nissa for a long time now, Once Upon a Time would probably feel amazing in the lategame too, since it can find both forgers (making creatures bigger) and rix-maadi (that allows grinding).
Also, being Forger 9-12 is much less exciting for me compared to enabling consistently 3 shamans before turn 3, which is how this archetype wins games.
A fixed OUaT, Abundant Harvest, looks like a 4-of in almost any green deck in Modern and Historic. It's gonna be printed in MH2 to become Modern-legal.
Conspiracy Theorist looks solid and can be played as 1-of in main and 1-2 in the sideboard. Plargg, Dean of Chaos is pretty similar as a looter and offers interesting manasink option. I'd also prefer both of them having haste.
This is EXACTLY what Shamans needed! Couldn’t have asked for a better card. I was just wishing a normal Elvish Mystic mana dork with creature type SHaman would be printed, instead we get Noble Hierarch producing JUND colors! Insane.

There’s a few ways to build SHamans. Caleb’s list looks pretty good. I have liked Beastcaller Savant though in the past.

This card pushes the entire deck and adds so much to its power level, on top of Shamans also getting a solid turn 1 play with Ignoble Hierarch. Burning-Tree Emissary turns into a Dark Ritual on legs, Elvish Visionary to go up on cards, Goblin Ruinblaster to shred the opposing manabase, Reclamation Sage, Essence Warden, Burning-Tree Shaman, Wolf-Skull Shaman, Plaguecrafter, etc. all become amplified and the deck gains a sort of velocity many tribal thems can't achieve in modern
There are a ton of creative implementations for the shell with the MH2 prints and I'm excited to see how things shake out
Yeah, that's true, but I'm still a little bit worried about creature type.
Wolf-skull is more anti-synergistic, as you need to have less shamans in your deck. And card itself is meh anyway. I'm more excited about BTE's, Visionary, Judith's and Rage Forger's triggers as the most tempo-is. And probably its enough to justify using a non-Shaman in this deck.
Just imagine a play like
t1 Hierarch
t2 wizard+1-drop
t3 CoCo finding BTE and Visionary then casting another CoCo off BTE's mana and finding Rage Forger plus Judith.
This doesn't look like a miracle, just a regular game.
Our poor little shamans starting to look very spicy and competitive. I stopped playing Bosk Banneret because of not agressive enough stats, and this guy is both more agressive and wider. My body is ready for sick T2 plays via Hierarch, BTE and this little fella.

t1 Hierarch
t2 wizard+1-drop

This becomes even more ridiculous if instead of a one drop on T2, you drop Anarchomancer followed by Harmonic Prodigy. That way, even if the Hierarch gets killed, you still have enough mana for the T3 CoCo.
The fact that he makes CoCo cheaper is huge. It’s just a very strong Gruul card in general and just so happens to be a Shaman. Shamans use to be a fringe pet deck for brewers like us, and Caleb, now a lot of people will be playing it unfortunately. Maybe not.

So what are people's lists looking like now? I thought I had mine figured out and now with this new card (didn't realize it made CoCo cheaper, changes everything) I need to rework my list. How about you guys?
This is what I would start testing, possibly want 22 lands though. Lost my old Shamans list so I’ll have to make the sideboard again another time. Realmwalker is sweet because not only is it a good SHaman, but it is also an Elemental to be fetched with Harbinger if card advantage is needed.
I think my sideboard would be a lot different than the one Caleb has, I had a lot more elemental silver bullets.
I’m unsure about Rix Maadi, I haven’t played it much, but I know Caleb likes it so I would want to test it myself.
Shamans seems like it should be a very strong aggro deck now. While it’s less disruptive than Humans, it’s faster. Also unsure about the new Prodigy, but it might be good as a 1-of.

Well boys, after an eon of sets and nothing for this tribe it seems we are getting some good ones in Strixhaven.
Who here has played Shamans recently?
