The abilities are good.. haste, 4 power, card draw, and the ability to enlarge creatures.. but it is somehow balanced because he is easily killed with only 2 toughness. Have been trying to find a home for this card, but so far no decks to slot him in yet. Has anyone been able to make Shaman of the Great Hunt work in their deck?
Almost feels like a "win-more" card, but there might be something I'm not seeing here.
It's funny you ask that. I have been playing Cragganwick Cremator for the past 3 weeks in Modern. I read a post about this card and wondered what it was. In the "New Deck Creation," there is the Cragganwick Cremator thread. Shaman does seem like a fairly powerful card, even if it is super weak to Bolt.

Was looking for a creature to test in Ponza when I came up on the card. It's a decent midgame creature, but sadly dies to too many thing so I can't use it. Have discussed it today at length with someone, and not good enough.
I think the problem is bloodbraid elf. There is no deck I can think of where Shaman OTGH is a better choice at 4 CMC than the classic BBE. Both have haste, both vulnerable to literally all the same removal. But one gets guaranteed value (even through a counter spell) and another takes considerable effort to create value.

That being said, the shaman is totally playable in modern. The fact is so many things die to turn one removal in modern that it starts becoming almost a given that if something doesn't have 4 toughness at least at cmc 3-4 and provide an immediate effect, it's dead weight.

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
Speaking as a Ponza player. What attracted me to testing shaman is the card draw. The problem is Tireless Tracker does the same thing but she comes down at three mana, compared to shaman who needs 4 mana to cast. Still considering the shaman as a possible 5th tracker, if I ever need another creature that can draw cards.

What about the other 4-mana cards on your curve? If you're already maxed out on BBE then wouldn't their still be better cards at 4 CMC than Shaman OTGH? Such as Mwonvuli Acid Moss or Garruk Wildspeaker
Don't have any 4 mana creatures in the main deck. Creatures for fighting other creatures are 4 Tarmogoyf, 3 Tracker, 1 Deathgorge Scavenger, and 4 Glorybringer. Yah, my ponza is weird. The only 4 mana creature I have is the Chameleon Colossus in the sideboard. Don't even use all 4 trackers, so Shaman really has no room right now.. but could have a use in some future iteration of the deck, to the binder he goes.
Almost feels like a "win-more" card, but there might be something I'm not seeing here.
