@ktk, twin is red, lol. /sarcasm
Fully agreed. 7 out of 8 decks are blue. Blue is literally the best colour atm.
Also, white in too many decks. Not sure about sfm.
Green and toolbox decks are literally dying for more than a year and GSZ at this point seems logical, but new creatures are going to be printed for sure.
And we know SCG will have a UWx deck or 2 in the top. Preordain and sadly SFM are likely nonstarters.
Yeah, I think all those cards are nonstarters for various reasons, ranging from perceived to actual issues. Blue and white-based decks just seem to be doing so well. But I do think that GSZ is an increasingly interesting and viable unban topic. Again, I'm not convinced it's a net benefit to the format. I'm a little worried about Elves, and don't think Titanshift and/or Amulet necessarily need to explore that possible upgrade. BG Rock with GSZ also feels strong. But it might give all those decks enough of a boost to make them more competitive than they are now. I don't know; I'm curious about arguments on both sides.
I think we're at a confident "No changes" for the upcoming B&R and have a visibly diverse metagame with tons of viable options. We'll see how the Modern-focused cards in Guilds changes the scene and check back in for B&R changes in early 2019.
Elves wouldn't be a problem. The main strength of the elf ball deck in legacy comes from Glimpse of Nature in combination with Wirewood Symbiote, Quirion Ranger, and Elvish Visionary. The deck does run Birchlore Rangers, but that's mostly acting as Heritage druid 5-6. Nykthos could make use of it to play some rather restrictively costed creatures and BG rock as you said would get pretty strong.

Some notes:
9 of the Burn finishes were from the SCG Open
4 of the UW Miracles finishes were from the top 9 of GP Stockholm
Humans is still the best deck
No one can deny that Spirits is the real deal anymore
UWx Control combines for 8 finishes, putting it among the top performers
GBx had probably the best weekend it's had in a long time, people preparing for their Trophies?
Bridge Vine outperforms Hollow One and Dredge, to claim the spot as best graveyard deck of the weekend.
Hardened Scales outperforms traditional Affinity
Spell based combo had a good weekend, between Living End winning in Syracuse and Storm's finishes, along with a good finish from JAC, KCI, and Grishoalbrand. Control being more popular is good for these decks, but Humans being the top deck is still keeping them in check.
Aggro was the super-archetype that had the best weekend, but it's Modern, so what else is new?
Big Mana had the worst weekend of the super-archetypes (WOW **** TRON)

Burn's been super popular online for the past few weeks, looks like it caught up to paper. I played it 3 times in the PTQ today and now it makes 12.5% of all my matches in September.
Issues such as archetype and color diversity need to be solved with new product, not the banned list. The banned list should be used for the grievous errors, and tournament disruptors. We need to stop viewing the banned list as a nerf to the metagame list.
THIS.
100% agree.
I know I'm late because I just got back from losing in the finals of a PPTQ, but I 100% agree too. The ban list should definitely be more lenient.
*After seeing some mention of Burn here on this page, I should also say that what I lost to in the finals was Burn. It was my only match loss in this tournament in 3 nail biter games, 1-2.

All I care about is a format that's fun to play, which Modern is for me right now. I believe a lot of cards in the banned list make it less fun to play and spikier than it already is. I prefer not homogenizing decks, even if this results in Modern being a matchup lottery (which I am fine with being the "downside" to a format being so diverse that strategies of all kinds can win).

Looks like Burn is having a fun time.
Perhaps the decks that are bad match ups for Burn are somehow being kept down?
Been playing burn all year, and if you look at metagame data, it is fairly well positioned. Tron is a good matchup now that mono green is almost universally played over a white or black splash. UW is about even. Humans is a slight disadvantage but not enough to make that a reason to not pick up the deck. I don't know much about the spirits matchup, this past weekend was my first experience against it and got the win.
KCI is rough, and KCI is being pushed out right now as people look for ways to not lose to it.
He's my local buddy. He plays whatever deck he believes gives him the best chance at PPTQs. He's borrowed Tron recently and gave up on Lantern. He also has played Titanshift, Burn, and more recently, Affinity in the past. I don't think he's played Titanshift or Burn for nearly a year or more.
Perhaps the decks that are bad match ups for Burn are somehow being kept down?
I'm assuming it's mostly because people forgot about Burn. Just a few weeks ago, Burn was not well positioned. Players like myself picked up on this and "forgot" the deck (set up our deck as if we won't see it in the Swiss).

I really don't know the KCI matchup, but I'd assume that Eidolon of the Great Revel would be damn good here. It has to be at least nearly as good as against Storm. I do realize that Nature's Claim and burn out of the KCI sideboard do kill it, but still. Fairly similar clock for Burn with a hoser in Eidolon.
You know I really do hate that card, right? (I don't know if you remember me saying this 1,000 times before.)

bridgevine showing up for both GPs. relatively poor showing for humans in stockholm, but it did well in hong kong. similarly UW control didnt show up in hong kong, but had a dominating performance in stockholm.
I attended Hong Kong and I can tell you that UW control was all over the place. Personally matched up against UW control 4 times in day 1. Honestly quite surprised that there wasn't a single one in the top 8.
Guys please opinions on japanese cards. Lost a 3/3 creature against Japan celestial colonade. This guy played all creatures and spells in english cards, but some cards in his manabase was japanese. I dont registrated this really ( my brain say its all fine and all english to me lets attack his empty board)...and i am sure it is a Kind of legal cheating. It is not ok, but i know legal. I Hate such people. I never forget colonade normally, but with this Tricks it can happen one time in 3 years and such people take advantage of this
If I am a customer spending premium amount of dollars, I expect a premium service. Jund falls into the category of a premium deck costing more dollars than a majority of the rest of the format. I'm not getting the desired performance ratio per dollars spent out of the Jund deck because WOTC decided to make the format more diverse.
Yup. I didn't attend day 2 because I would be stuck at the venue till late at night. I was 5-0-3 going into day 2 so an early loss would mean my whole day is wasted. Decided to hang with my friends in the hotel instead.
