I've been trying to decide on a new deck for the past 2-3 months and after trying the following decks:
Sultai Delirium
GR Eldrazi
Esper Mentor
Zoo (many variations including 5c Zoo)
Esper Goryo's Vengeance
Traverse Shadow
Bant Spirits
Esper Shadow
Temur Delver
RW Taxes
I've boiled it down to Esper Shadow and Bant Spirits but I can't figure out which one is better. Currently I'm playing Colorless Eldrazi Stompy and love the deck but I want something more interactive. I'm not interested in hardcore control decks. Something more tempo or midrange. My local meta is Storm, Living End, Infect, Eldrazi Taxes, Grixis Shadow, Burn, Affinity, and Jeskai Control, but I'd like to play something that I could take to a GP or another event with a fairly wide open meta.
In the past I've played Affinity, Merfolk (found the deck very frustrating and generally don't like Vial decks), and Eldrazi Tron (found it boring).
Budget is not much of a factor but preferably around the 900 - 1200 range as that's what I can trade into easily. Any help is appreciated!
Hello, I'm a Grixis Shadow player and former Esper Shadow player too. If you like tempo and elements of control without going full control then you should definitely play a Snapcaster Shadow deck. The Esper variant is the most control oriented of them all, you have hard removal and a lot of grind potential. I like it and played it a lot but it has some troubles closing games. You're hurting your life total for tactical advantange so you need to close games rather quickly, that's why people play Grixis. Temur Battle Rage is huge and now Bolt is a relevant removal again wich is great with Snappy. You can think the Grixis variant like an Aggro Combo deck, in wich you disrupt and remove early and then search for your wincons, and the Esper variant like an Aggro Control deck, in wich you stabilize and then slowly take the game. However, keep in mind that red deals with aggro swarm much better than white.
You will do fine with Esper shadow in your local meta because there are no Humans, and its great if you have the cards to switch between Grixis and Esper, but mostly I recommend you the deck because is super fun. Good luck!

"The sparkmage shrieked, calling on the rage of the storms of his youth. To his surprise, the sky responded with a fierce energy he'd never thought to see again."
Esper Suicide is a great deck that may have lost some steam with the banning of Gitaxian probe, but it's still pretty solid. Thought Scour, Path to Exile, Thoughtseize, Stubborn Denial...all very powerful tools. Orzhov Charm is an interesting technique that Esper opens up
