I haven't given wtoc a cent, as no Modern player should lol. I give local stores money by buying thier singles
I should point out that buying singles is still giving them money, albeit indirectly.
For that matter, if you win booster packs in any event, you're directly giving them money because your entry fee is effectively paying for the booster packs.
Only thing we can hope for is that decks like Dredge and Storm are not showing up a lot or making the Top 8 in force.
We all know how much WotC hates those mechanics and if they make a very strong showing it will be game over for those decks.
If that happens and they ban the only deck I have left from under me I`m done with Modern.

This sentiment, which is widespread, is exactly the reason Wizards either needs to remove Modern from the PT or to change the way it handles Modern at the PT. It's outrageous that people are rooting AGAINST their favorite decks because they are afraid of a ban (insert Cardboard Crack comic here). That's bad for long-term format health and bad for even short-term format growth. We should be excited when our preferred deck hits the T8, not frightened. Modern can still remain on the PT for this to happen, but if so, Wizards needs to either disrupt the Modern weighting at the event so it doesn't disproportionately contribute to a ban (e.g. fewer Modern rounds), and/or understand that a PT metagame does not necessarily reflect a more regional or even global one.

Can`t agree more with you on that one mate. What I said is also what I hear in my local shop from some of the players.
I already had my Troll and Probe banned in the same banning last year wich basicly killed my Infect deck and made Dredge weaker. So I sold my Infect stuff and decided to keep my Dredge deck because I don`t play as much anymore as I used to do so 1 deck is enough to keep for the time being. Dredge is my favorite machenic in the game that is why I decided to keep it. When I saw Dredge doing good I got happy and got confident again in the deck, I kept playing it and putting up some good results as well. I love to see Dredge being played by some good or Pro players but the anxienty of it getting banned when it shows up on camera a lot is high.
But like we all know and seen is that a PT can screw Modern over big time and that is were all the talk is coming from. I like playing Modern and as you might know got into Legacy as of late and I really love that format. I will be playing a lot of Legacy this year because I`m going to Eternal Weekend in August in Yokohama and going to play in GP Shizuoka as well.
The only problem is that if I want to play some Magic on a Saturday and there is no Legacy I will just join the Modern tournament and have some fun there. If, and I know it is a big if, somehing happens to Dredge and it gets killed I don`t have a deck anymore to play Modern and since I don`t play that much anymore it would be a waste of money getting into a new deck.
Long story short I share the same view that this way of thinking is bad for the format on a short and long term and I hope WotC will see it the same way.

I just don't understand WoTC at all with modern. They are all about supporting the format, then decide to get rid of core sets, make dozens of supplementary products that help neither standard nor modern much, and think that support means selling 240 msrp luxury sets of things people need to play the format. They could have supported standard and modern by making saturday showdown promos modern cards, too. Give them a saturday pack plus maybe alternate art lightning bolt, Etched Champion, Curse Catcher, Street Wraith, etc. If they really wanted to push things up for attendance they could offer things like Shock land promos. People are always happy to get a shock land.
A major tournament pushing a format does nothing for a format without actual support to back it up. WoTC has just been abysmal at giving support in any form and really have just been farming for money with modern.

2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!

Well, the core set is back soon, and they did push very hard with Modern-specific reprints. Plus they brought back the PT and dramatically improved Modern-related communication. They are definitely trying. The issue for them is that Standard is the format they need to sell packs regularly, and Modern doesn't do that but is significantly more popular. They won't actively torpedo Modern to help Standard (tin foil hat theories don't count), but they also won't promote Modern too much if it cuts out their Standard base in a major way. It's a real problem for the company and they need to do something about it in the near future.
As ktk stated, and extrapolating from your point about pushing Modern...they dont even need to.
I mean using Modern to get people to play Standard wont work either, some (many? most?) of us would rather do anything but play Standard.
The format has become as popular, and solid, as it has despite Wizards, and they are probably fine with that because the alternative is to push Modern...to cannibalize Standard?

Not likely.
It's not so much about getting modern players to play standard as much as getting players to show up at an LGS. If people come in on saturday to pick up a promo and decide they want to play modern instead, it's still people coming into the store and playing magic. That's the point wizards is missing in this entire thing. Pumping a pro-tour and hoping that somehow increases or improves the game at the level that matters is going about it the wrong way.

I dont think thats the point of the Modern pro tour.
I think the point is 'Hey, you guys all watching SCG Opens and Classics instead of Wizards Standard? Come watch the Magic you would rather be watching on our Twitch instead!'
Edit: Its literally to wash the taste of Standard out of the viewers mouths.
According to wizards there are 10+ Tier 1 decks in modern! You heard it here (through the stream of PT) first!
Based on what they showed, I assume that in those 10 decks they include:
Jeskai Control, UW Control, Jund, GDS, Lantern Control, UR Storm, Titanshift, BG Tron, Affinity, and another aggro deck which I can't remember.
These are the decks showed on the stream that "define the format".
No deck over 10% and more than 10 meaningful decks no matter how you cut it, that's a thing of beauty. I still wish they would get rid of the Limited portion, but the Modern rounds could be really excellent....*roots against Tron regardless*.

Project Booster Fun makes it less fun to open a booster.
Lantern vs Dredge on cam now. I wish they would put up the decks that people are on, like SCG, and not just players names. Those are meaningless data points...
EDIT: Looks like it was player names for the side game while shuffling, now its Mardu vs Humans.
I think it was pretty clear previously that it would be here to stay, and the pros definitely agree.
The pro tour has been known to have some weird metagame shifts, and we'll still have to see if this is true of humans, but from all the camera time the deck has seen, I'm inclined to believe its really as good as the pros make it out to be.
- We see at least 1 UR Breach deck do well, top 16 we'll say
- Pyro Prison gets a turn 1 Blood Moon on camera
- Infect has a resurgence/strong showing
RG BBE Ponza
UX Eldrazi Tron
UR Jace Breach
I did say bold

I thought Lightning Bolt has been #1 for a while
URStormRU
GRTitanshift[mana]RG/mana]
After Fatal Push it dropped down pretty far and has been coming back particularly with the recent climb of Mardu and Jeskai Control.
Things could change in the top 32 and top 8, but this is a great start.
There's some abzan, BG Rock and Traverse around.
I think it's safe to say jund is a dead deck.

If it were unbanned before SFM or BBE I would honestly be furious with WOTC and the modern format.
Then I'd begrundingly play Jeskai and lock my GBx cards away
