I think most people agree the day 2 GP was an awful mess with an even worse top 8.
Who's "most people"?
The crop of decks we saw getting to top 8 was a little unusual compared to the last month or so, but that doesn't make it inherently bad; it's just what we had on the day. Give it a week and the next large tournament will look different. The results are just "the results" I don't think we can project "it was a mess" and certainly not assume negativity from "most people"

Modern: G Tron, Vannifar, Jund, Druid/Vizier combo, Humans, Eldrazi Stompy (Serum Powder), Amulet, Grishoalbrand, Breach Titan, Turns, Eternal Command, As Foretold Living End, Elves, Cheerios, RUG Scapeshift
I think this was the second worst top 8 in Modern ever, only Pro Tour during Eldrazi winter with 6 Eldrazi decks in top 8 was worse. I expected a lot from this GP, lots of fun watching it and cool decks but I'm very disappointed.
I hope this was just a lonely example and metagame call because Modern in general still looks fine.
There have been many "bad" top 8s in history of Modern, however, what "bad" means is subjective.
PT Philly was also a really wonky top 8, cause 7 hyper linear deck + a random tempo deck (mainly carried by the limited performance too). Heck, while the format back than was hilarious, it was still broken.
Hence, I wouldn't claim that this was the second worst top 8, but it was one of the worse ones if you mainly enjoy Midrangey strategies.

Kathal
PS: I like synergistic decks, so while I find some decks fascinating on how they work, I still wouldn't want to play them.

What I play or have:
Modern/Legacy
either funpolice (Delver, Deathcloud, UW Control) or the fun decks (especially those ft. Griselbrand)
Living End players have a bad habit of choking in T8s. Four years ago an LE player lost to Melira Pod because he forgot that Faerie Macabre could stop the combo.
Incidentally Corey Burkhart (who placed 15th in this event) is also prone to choking, but in a different sense of the word...

Honestly I love this game. But man does this forum in particular have a TON of whiny people. To be fair I see it from the pros too. Go look at the top 32. The difference between 8 and 32 is basically nothing/luck. In the top 32 TONS Of decks are represented. Control, aggro, burn, combo, etc.
If you don't like the meta as it is today find a new format. The format is in a GREAT spot. Anyone can win any given match.

Midrange did very poorly in this GP and at least BGx decks in general aren't doing great either.
Anyone can win any match makes no sense at all. I mean tell me then how anyone playing a deck like Jund can beat Tron or Titanshift.
I mean thats a bad matchup, Deaths shadow had some T32 spots and that deck has supplanted BGx alot. Metagames and cyclical and expect more blood moons/land hate at the next gp with a swing back the other direction.
The point is everything is super healthy and nothing is 'broken' or needs banning. We can't pick and choose our top 32 every GP. Frankly BGx isn't very fun to play in addition to being a bit weak in the meta right now so I am not shocked at all.
I think the problem (regarding the coverage) was that the same couple of decks got shown over and over again. This made everything very repetitive and frankly said boring. It would have been way better if they would have shown a wider range of decks and/or didn't show the same match-up for several rounds.
However, speaking out of experience, this is rather hard to do properly.

A few things on this. First, let's not suggest this particular forum is unusually whiny about Modern. The online community is generally whiny about Modern largely because Wizards has conditioned many players to whine. Reddit and Twitch are noteworthy examples, as are many pro articles where authors get paid to make subjective claims about formats they struggle in. Emma Handy, PVDR, Brad Nelson, and Decandio are high profile offenders in this regard but all have gotten better recently.
Second, I agree the T32 looks great. The problem is, as other users said, coverage picked *****ty games to cover and the T8 itself sucked. This makes a very visible issue that is justifiably upsetting and frustrating to players. I guarantee people would feel better if we had some small coverage shifts and slight T8 changes.
Finally, in terms of format health, we know Wizards cares primarily about GP and PT T8s, followed by MTGO and maybe some combo of SCG Opens and RPTQs. They almost never cite T32s when determining Modern health and I don't think they ever look at a wider paper metagame. So if people are upset, it's because many have a pulse on Wizards and believe Wizards will be upset too. Or, at least, that they SHOULD be upset. Again, Wizards has conditioned us to whine, as have some vocal players who frequently cite Modern issues (real and perceived).

It's just one tournament, but if this is where the format was actually heading this would be a huge disaster
