I am working on my first modern deck. I have had a rat/discard/Megrim/Liliana's Caress deck that I have been playing/modifying for about 13 years now. As new sets come out it gets newer, better cards. Most of the stuff by now is modern legal, but there is still a handful of stuff that is not. One of those things is a playset of Dark Rituals.
Since DR is not modern legal, what is the best thing to sub it for in order to get mana into your pool quickly, to make bigger plays early instead of having to wait for organic mana growth?
Black has left that part of the color pie so a modern legal Dark Ritual won't likely happen. Red is the color that offers quick mana with cards such as Desperate Ritual or Simian Spirit Guide.
Probably best bet is to splash either green or red.
I'd opt for green since you get better gold cards.abrupt decay is nice. So is melstrome pulse. This splash also gives you goyf to feed on those discarded cards l. Birds and elves can provide you the mana you need.
Red gives you one shot mana development. Like SSG or the bad rituals. Plus side to them is you don't have to worry about creature removal. The gold cards of choice yet is terminate and deadbore. Red also offers bolt.... That's probably something.

Lotus Bloom and Mind Stone.
You can also use Nykthos and build up devotion quickly with Mistvein Borderpost and Veinfire Borderpost.
While it's a slightly different deck overall, you could pull ideas from it to improve your own build.
UR ....... WUBR ........... WB ............. RGW ........ UBR ....... WUB .... BGU
Spells / Blink & Combo / Token Grind / Dino Tribal / Draw Cards / Zombies / Reanimate
Myself I opted to go grixis with that style of deck.
