To transform on turn 3 you need: t1 fetch, thoughtscour. (4) T2 fetch, play this. (5) T3 any upkeep instant. The trigger is card 7. Admittedly, this does leave a land tapped so you can't tap for four which was the point of the experiment. So hope your opponent plays thoughtseize.
Or you cycle a Street Wraith or play a Mishra's Bauble or hit somebody with a Surgical Extraction. It's not as tough as one might think. Now, it may not transform until turn 4 or 5, but that means it'll be easier to Snapcaster Mage into something sooner or play other control cards. There's lots of good things this card can do by accelerating you a mana one turn early. I think control decks ought to play one, maybe two.

WoTC, thank you for finally announcing the Modern format, an eternal format where everyone can participate.

And why mix all that junk cards together just to have an "almost-do-nothing" effect? Sure, it's a 1 mana ramp, when you can play Mono U Tron and get a gazilion of extra mana. And, also, it's a worse, more expensive Impulse.
Also, if you draw your one or two off later in the game, when you are practically losing the game, it's a real "do nothing" card.
Plus, legend, plus turns on opp's Abrupt Decay, because as I said heavy control decks lack Decay-able targets.
If it could ramp you into turn 3 Cryptic Command reliably and consistently, I could get behing it. If the meta was clunky and slow, sure, I could also get behind it.
I may be wrong, but I think that the arguments you presented can't sell anyone to play the card.
While I agree with your post in general, saying "it's a worse Impulse" doesn't mean that much when Impulse isn't legal in Modern to begin with. A better comparison would have been Supreme Will.
As far as dinosaurs in modern goes, I don't see it happening outside of a few really good ones. Maybe Ripjaw Raptor and Rampaging Ferocidon? The problem is that dinos are really good at midrange, and I don't think modern is very mid-range friendly with things like Grixis Death shadow running around.

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!

the card itself really isn't worth the card board its printed on...does it serve a purpose? Sure its a blue 1 drop that might not be a 1/1. I would not put it in a list and expect to win a PTQ or GP though.
I think there's an engine to exploit in Ranging Raptors. The 1/1 that enrages into a 3/3 has promise. If only they both didn't die to Pyroclasm.
I'm thoroughly convinced the entire point of that baby raptor is that it does die to pyroclasm.

id like to test Search for Azcanta as a sideboard card for storm on grindy matchups. Impulse on a land seems awesome
Yeah, I'm not a blue player but this card is jumping out at me as something we could potentially see in Modern. Plenty of decks are trying to fill their gy, then once it flips the filtering is pretty ridiculous, but the mana cost is a little high.
If a nonbasic land has an ability that applies "as [this land] enters the battlefield" or that causes it to enter the battlefield tapped or with counters, the land will lose that ability before it applies. This is a change from previous rules.
This means, shocklands can enter the battlefield untapped without you losing life. It also means, Cavern Of Souls is a useless land card if there is a BM on the bfield, as the player does not get to choose a creature type in this scenario. Even if BM leaves the battlefield, Cavern is a tap: You get 1 and it's other ability is non-existent.
It also means, you can play untapped bouncelands(although the trigger still happens), amongst other things.
It's a small but a welcomed change, especially for those that play fair decks with bouncelands like Steam Vents or Overgrown Tomb, etc.
What bouncelands are you talking about? The Karoos? Because those won't have a trigger and will simply enter as mountains. You said bounce lands and then listed two shock lands so I honestly don't know what you meant.
It's nice that Opt is final modern legal. Although, I wish there was some scry 2 variant. Although considering ponder and preordain are sorceries. I doubt wizards will ever do that. However, who cares if green gets cards like ancient stirrings or oath of nissa, and blue does not.
It's caleb sherer who is one of if not the most known storm player currently playing. Just because it's not a 1500 person open doesn't mean the results mean nothing. Even if it's just him testing it's something to think about.
Hey guys, do we think UW Control or UWR Tempo (like a Jonathan Rosum-esque list) would be better to take to an open meta (like an SCG Open or a GP)?
Jeskai is significantly better in an open metagame. This is true both in theory (proactive Plan Bs are strong in unknown metagames) and in practice (UW has bad results in 15 round tourneys, Jeskai has been sending a bunch of players to T8/T16). Jeskai is even better with GDS experiencing a downturn.
So opinions on 'Field of Ruin'?
Too expensive to activate or worth it was grabbing a replacement land?
Feel like it needed to be 1 and tap to be modern good. But worth investigating.

I'd be considering it. It's certainly better than Tectonic Edge.

I think having the option to just burn the opponents out, is the better choice. It reminds me of the old Snap tempo decks there once were.
This is not to say UW is not a valid choice. But UW means you are going to run into more problems, IMO.
Just don't play Esper(which, I am sure you are not going to after today's stream! )
Yeah LOL I mean I wouldn't have anyway. That deck is just so friggin fun to play, U do it at FNMs.

Just looked up the storm list and it is quite unique
Only 6 cost reducers (2 electromancers), 3 copies of Strategic Planning!, a 3rd Past in Flames, and only 17 lands (no fetches)
What do you all think?
Low turnout for that one. Probably why there's such weird results.

I loathe creatures! Praise Prison and Land Destruction!
My Peasant Cube (looking for feedback)
I think it's a 95 person tournament and we shouldn't read too much into any of the results or decklists.
UR ....... WUBR ........... WB ............. RGW ........ UBR ....... WUB .... BGU
Spells / Blink & Combo / Token Grind / Dino Tribal / Draw Cards / Zombies / Reanimate
At least there is now a reprieve from all the talk of ET oppressing midrange strategies.
... Evidence?
And the same old most of Moderns decks are flaws that should not exist.
Coco, storm, dredge, affinity even the weaker decks like faeries
