Exile Watchers of the Dead: Each Opponent chooses two cards in his or her Graveyard and exiles the rest.
They are tasked with protecting the entrance to the embalming chambers
2/2
Seems good and like it will slot into at least a few decks in the sideboard. I know we have things like Relic of Progenitus , Rest in Peace, Tormod's Crypt, Nihil Spellbomb, Scavenging Ooze, etc... but sometimes you want the graveyard hate with a body. The drawback of leaving behind two cards is bad, especially since it gives your opponent a choice, but I still think it's a welcome card to the cardpool for sure with it's niche effect.
I've been wrong before, but i think that Gideon just made a mono-white deck a major force in Modern. omg, that card is CRAZY good. now i can oly hope that the rest of the set is super powerful so prices on him won't be painful. if he drops below $15 a pop, I'll buy a set. more than that will hurt, but I might have to. what were they THINKING??? this is gonna be great for Modern, but Standard is going to burn. again. the power creep is just obscene on this, I don't understand, 3 cmc cards DON'T get the Platinum Angel effect!

Project Booster Fun makes it less fun to open a booster.
In most cases, it's a worse Read the Bones (which doesn't see play), a worse Painful Truths (which sees minimal play), and even a worse Night's Whisper (which sees play in Grishoalbrand and basically nothing else). This new card, despite its cool art, will not be played in Modern.
So new Gideon's implications on modern, his +1 is very relevant protection, his first 0 is a clock, and his 2nd 0 is amazing. Where does he slot in?
Ad Nauseum might want to slot him in for their Unlifes, or not
Sun & Moon will definitely slot this guy right in.
Death & Taxes also seems like a natural fit, although its a bit of a nonbo since they want to be running mostly creatures.
Does BGw want this?
Another card I saw being sort of ignored because of new gideon is this one:
An edict effect on an enchantment means it loses the ability to cast at instant speed, but it gains the ability to be bounced and have its etb trigger abused. I think if there were a deck that could make use of / abuse of this, it could be pretty powerful.
The more I think about it, the less powerful he seems in modern. Bolt and Path to Exile are still common cards and while his Platinum Angel effect should naturally be super good against non-interactive combo decks, look around, Titanshift kills him first then you, same for Storm, Ad Nauseam, Grishoalbrand, only a speed bump against Burn and a 4/4 indestructible attacker (not blocker) is not as impressive in a format that is currently dominated by 5/6s and 7/7+s.
He's good yes, but he looks better than he will turn out in modern.
New Gideon is very interesting. I'm not sure what deck wants it, but it has a number of Modern-relevant abilities. Cool stuff!
The deck that wants it will be called Monowhite 16-Gideons.
In all seriousness I can see Junk perhaps even picking up a single copy for those really grindy games. In a topdeck way he is hard to remove, harder than planeswalkers already are, and if he gets out of Bolt range then he can lock something down and keep that emblem around.

Like I said, made for Sun & Moon, Gideon + Chalice at 1 is a great start to building an unbeatable board state.
Death and Taxes is probably going to want to test with Trial of Ambition. the ability to Flickerwisp it (at instant speed if you vial in wisp) seems pretty promising.

I don't think it works like that for Ad Naus, because Lightning Storm can't split the damage up like that (if I'm reading the card correctly).
I could see Gideon being played in the UW Control lists, either replacing or being run alongside Gideon Jura.

Yeah, my snap judgment is that Sun and Moon is the best home for just dropping him straight in, no building around. (The deck is already built around him.) In UWx Control lists, I guess repeatedly fogging a creature can force an opponent to overcommit, which makes sweepers stronger.

You are correct that Lightning Storm can't split the damage to Gideon. Ad Nauseam could still win by either casting two Storms or one Storm to kill Gideon and then Maniac to win outright, but it's definitely harder for them.
Gideon is great with Leyline of Sanctity. With Leyline up, the only way to kill Gideon is through combat or sweepers like Explosives.

Gideon is good, but lets not lose our heads here. I think in terms of power level we're looking at a Liliana The Last Hope, not Liliana of the Veil. So still quite good and instantly playable, but less of a format changer.
Turn 2 Wall of Omens, Turn 3 Gideon to fog someone, then Turn 4 wrath the board, swing for 4 seems really strong in UW Control.
Personally, I just want to live the dream and emblem my Gideon, and then protect it so that my Pact of Negation becomes a Force of Will without any drawback.

I don't think he's a format changer. I think he's a good walker with Modern-relevant abilities that will go into certain decks and make them better. In fact, I don't see anyone in this thread claiming he's a format changer. Most people aren't losing their heads and are just acknowledging that Gideon will be good in a few decks.
I know he can probably slot into a lot of other decks as well but the new Gideon might be the card that makes "Emeria Titan" decks competitive as it can be recurred by Sun Titan.
Superfriends just got a new toy - not that superfriends is a real deck or anything. I've toyed with a 4c superfriends build with sun titan/saheeli combo and nahiri/emrakul combo. Such a strategy is necessarily weak to faster combo decks, which this gideon nicely addresses. Only time will tell if enough tools are there, but with Oath of Nissa and some dorks, one can power out these walkers pretty quickly.
Even disregarding Trial Gideon's last ability, I think his +1 is incredibly strong on a cmc3 planeswalker. Ajani Vengeant's +1 has always been incredibly strong, and this comes down one turn sooned and is most of the time even better. You can even shut off a Valakut with it
