Let me preface this by saying I wanted to emulate the sort of "ramp-control" playstyle of the Legacy deck, Nic Fit. To that end, I have tried different ways to ramp including:
- Mana Dorks, which always led me toward a Chord playstyle, which is more creature-heavy than I would prefer.
- Arbor Elf/Utopia Sprawl, which works, but I thought that either card was pretty bad on its own.
- Search for Tomorrow, etc. , which I feel just pushes me to play Scapeshift.
Then, I came across Rallier + Sakura-Tribe Elder, which is the interaction I'm asking about. In my opinion it's pretty decent, Rallier is an excellent card on it's own and ramping to 6 mana on turn 4 doesn't seem that bad, assuming I can stay alive. The problem is that I might not be able to use Elder to block and sac if I don't have a fetchland to trigger revolt for the Rallier.
I think that after I reach turn 4 sac-blocking isn't really an issue because I would have the mana to pretty much play anything in my deck, plus early on I wouldn't have the mana to cast Savage Summoning anyway.
Had no idea what you were talking about and had to use Gatherer. Renegade Rallier
If you aren't going to tag the cards at least use the whole card name.
It's a good interaction but you obviously can't rely on getting both of those cards every game, so you'd need some redundancy there which brings you back to other options which you don't like as much. I think it'd be great in a Sun Titan build, since rallier is a tiny Sun Titan and Tribe-Elder is great with both.
Similar builds to nic fit are seen in death cloud decks. You will likely need some form of interaction with the opponent in order to ensure the ramp+recursion control package puts you over the top in a game. Black likely offers what you would seek, but there is also blue or red to consider. Each has their own strong point that will be meta specific.
Edit: 12 ramp pieces seems excessive. However, I could see the interaction with the ever present fetchlands being good enough to warrant the renegade rallier/sakura tribe elder interaction. I would go heavier on the basics and consider only 10 ramp pieces, with the last two being edge of autumn. Yes, you can't recur it, but early on it gets you that third/fourth/fifth land and when you need a permanent to recur, it turns into a card by sacrificing a land. It's a pretty solid card for a strategy like this.
Edit: I just noticed it has a pretty good interaction with saffi eriksdotter, too.
You already have plenty of sources to target with Rallier when you factor in fetchlands. If you can turn 1 bird or Hierarch then playing a fetch and then rallying it puts you at 5 mana turn 3 and gives you a 3 or 4 power attacker (depending on if Hierarch was used or not). That's not bad... Also considering all the color fix opportunities there.

What do you guys think? Too slow? Too gimmicky?

They are both good cards on their own and I could see them being in the same deck but I think it would want more creatures than you would prefer.
