Seems unlikely, since it just got a reprint in Eternal Masters. If they were considering banning it, they must have been thinking about it for a while, and I can't imagine them going ahead with something they thought they might turn around and immediately ban.
This is still the january announcement and even without a modern PT this is still the most likely time in my mind for big shakeups in modern besides just the printing of Fatal Push
Don't forget that while they did shake things up for Modern in the January 2016 banlist announcement, it was April when they unbanned Sword of the Meek and Ancestal Vision. Personally I think that's more likely for a big bombshell announcement.
I forgot the big unbans were in April
but over the history of recent modern most moves have happened in Jan. the notable exception being SOTM, AV but i think that was them paying penance for eldrazi messing up everyone's modern experience for 3 months
you need to go back to 2012 for a non febuary unban in modern (valakut in sept 2012)
Gitaxian Probe—Gitaxian Probe increased the number of third-turn kills in a few ways, but particularly by giving perfect information (and a card) to decks that often have to make strategic decisions about going "all-in." This hurt the ability of reactive decks to effectively bluff or for the aggressive deck to miss-sequence their turn. Ultimately, the card did too much for too little cost.
Golgari Grave-Troll—Dredge, the mechanic and the deck, has a negative impact on Modern by pushing the format too far toward a battle of sideboards. With the printing of Cathartic Reunion and Prized Amalgam, the deck once again became unhealthy for the format. While those cards were discussed, the real offender always has been the dredge mechanic itself.
Golgari Grave-Troll is banned.
The list of all banned and restricted cards, by format, is here. The full list of cards banned in Modern is here. The full list of cards banned in Standard is here.
RIP Probe and GGT, I'm sorry to say this, but I feel Modern is a complete joke now.
Expand on this please. I dont think based on just the last week I've been around again that we should be shocked by GGT, and Probe while an enabler for broken things is not the end of the world (Peek)
And I'm frustrated by the lack of Unbans again >.<
They'll unban something in April if necessary. I'm personally fine with Wizards making these changes and waiting to see what happens. I also appreciate the restraint on the Probe banning, hitting multiple fast decks without really hurting any of their core identities.
Legacy - Sneak Show, BR Reanimator, Miracles, UW Stoneblade
Premodern - Trix, RecSur, Enchantress, Reanimator, Elves https://www.facebook.com/groups/PremodernUSA/ Modern - Neobrand, Hogaak Vine, Elves
Standard - Mono Red (6-2 and 5-3 in 2 McQ)
Draft - (I wish I had more time for limited...)
Commander - Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build) (dead format for me)
the card itself really isn't worth the card board its printed on...does it serve a purpose? Sure its a blue 1 drop that might not be a 1/1. I would not put it in a list and expect to win a PTQ or GP though.
Wizards. Banmania has just started. You are a stupid bunch of people.1
no they are not.
1. ggt was an excellent choice, im actually getting back into modern now because of this.
2. probe enabled ALOT of fast decks, while also being able to see if the opponent had removal. they explained it well, if you wanna go all in you now have to take more of a risk and are slower at it.
good job wizards im actually starting to have confidence in you again.
