Hallowed Moonlight is another white card that I want to highlight in the current meta since it seems better and better. At the very worst if it's dead you can just cantrip.
It's a great card. If there's a draw go control deck I can see this being run. But it suffers the same fate as shadow of doubt. While at worst they both draw a card, they simply don't typically do enough.
Remember that Aether Vial is a may so all you do is stop a single activation. Moonlight is unutterable trash against merfolk and should never be brought in. Any single removal spell would have more impact.

Building onto this, Matter Reshaper is also a may ability and it misses lands which is what Reshaper is often hitting. Same for Collected Company, it just stalls it and doesn't stop the creatures but getting 2 is much better than 1 for say Chord of Calling.
Don't forget Dryad Arbor off of a fetch in Bogles.

Something like Containment Priest is an example of a better effect for Modern because of the lasting effect. I agree with rcwraspy that in 99% of the situations that you are killing a creature with this you could also just have had a removal spell. When it's good it's real good and you can get 2-for-1's or 3-for-1's but more often you are just hitting one creature and that isn't good enough.
It's Containment Priest or nothing...and since the priest will never be modern legal, we'll just have to do without.

No one spoke. There was no need. The threat of the Eldrazi presented a simple choice: lay down your arms and die for nothing, or hold them fast and die for something.
Hallowed Moonlight is good against Dredge, Nahiri, resto-kiki, and abzan coco. Since it is a cantrip, the opportunity cost of just firing it off at coco, finks, nahiri ult, prized amalgam, etc are all pretty low. That being said, there is some opportunity cost to holding up the 2 mana, so it's not entirely free. Not a card to write home about, but it serves its purpose well.
