i like the emerge mechanice of the new set and Distended Mindbender along with the octopus really got my attention for application in modern.
what i'm wondering is what decks might get use out of Mindbender?
of the top of my head in JUNK deck I was thinking of playing him along with kitchen finks, so he can be reduced to ?
feels like it could be good value for turn 3/4. (birds of paradise pending.)
I am trying to make a green black version of bant eldrazi. A lot of the same but with more discards spells early (thoughtsieze inquiseition) and distended mindbender instead of drowner of hope. I would play 4 kitchen finks and 4 matter reshaper to get him out.
The deck would loose eldrazi displacer but he is weak to l. bolt anyway. This was I can be very good vs combo decks with 4 early diosacrd spells, 4 thought knot seers and some amount of distended mindbender.

I have dyslexia, no I am not going to spell check for you, yes you have to live with the horrors of it.
Isn't it a bit slow for Eldrazi, he's good creature otherwise and works nice with Kitchen Finks?
the real debate for him, is turn 4 too slow?
cause under most circumstances, i believe that is the average clock you can get him out on, whether you use sacrifice fodder for emerge cost or assemble tron and hard cast him.
I tried Distended Mindbender in RG Tron (yeah, not the best choice). Even with basically no other hand disruption in the deck, the Mindbender ripped out just as many cards per ETB on average as Thought-Knot Seer did (i.e. it took out one card).

i've tried it a few times in my tron deck as well, turn 4 I find the similar results, its only hitting one or the other. lot of people don't seem to play cards with 4cc or greater.
On scg modern last week, I forget who it was, but they used Mindbender in their deck and it looked really good against tron. Being able to rip an o stone and a karn is fantastic to say the least. Sometimes an edge like that is all you need to jump ahead enough to seal a game. Im keeping my eye on the card to say the least. It's not for every match up, and you can't slam it into any deck with black, but damn when it's good it looks great lol
Emerge still costs too much to be worth it for the effects you get. Even if you double thoughtseize them you have to resolve it first, and have a creature worth emerging. Just doesnt seem worth when that much mana often just wins the game in other decks.
