Let's wait until we get the Top 16 to cry foul on the lack of blue control just yet. We might end up having all the reason in the world to be unhappy about blue at this event: maybe there are 0 blue-based controlling decks in the Top 16 either. But if we had, say, a Jeskai and a Grixis in the Top 16 that just missed T8, that would change how we interpreted the results. I'm happy to wait for a more complete picture to start analyzing and making sweeping conclusions.
i know there was both a blue moon and a grixis list playing for win and ins earlier

The blue moon deck was a pleasure to watch, and I had fingers crossed it would Top 8. But that loss to Jund was spectacularly bad and served to highlight blue's problems with both answers and threats.

This shouldn't be something worth mentioning. We saw at least a few Jund rounds against Burn that highlighted Jund's problems with both answers and threats in specific matchups. If two blue-based control decks legitimately missed Top 8 on breakers or a single round, as might be the case with this Blue Moon and Grixis deck, then the color is much more viable than its critics are framing.
Abzan Company is just gross. If it wouldn't have had the mirror in the quarters there would likely have been 3 in the semis. Tron essentially had a bye. Looking like abzan will win it all too. Kalitas showed some crazy value especially off of misplays.

Abzan Company runs at least two separate infinite combos in a deck full of value creatures and 8 spells that dig or tutor for free creatures at instant speed with Eternal Witness recursion backup. It's no wonder it's doing well.

It's notable that Abzan Company's historic police was the Snapcaster-Bolt deck. Will be interesting to see if such decks rise up for the massive Grand Prix Weekend on May 20 to beat back these Company decks.

I can't guarantee I'll actually do well, but I should be in LA representing Snap Bolt as best I can!

it was mostly just twin and that was because abzan coco doesn't really pack much interaction... 4 or less paths was just not enough against twin who doesn't really care about infinite life...
bolt and path line up well against abzan coco esp if you're boarding in anger postboard... but i just don't think the current jeskai lists are robust enough against the rest of the format...
Well Joe Lossett just got gifted a free pass to the finals. He had no business winning that game, but it does highlight that Burn isn't as easy to play as people give it credit for.
Yup. Must be trons time to win one me thinks. Which is hilarious considering it just took a ban.

I think far too many people wrote Tron off after the Eye of Ugin ban. The meta has been very aggro, but if Jund and other midrange / fair decks showed up in anticipation of that, the tron players got to next level them.

Everyone forget their anti-Tron cards. I'd warned about this before the SCG States weekend, emphasizing the importance of keeping stuff like Fulminator Mage in your board, but I understand why people took the gamble and forgot their land destruction.

Taking the ban is probably part of the reason it did well at this event, as everyone just figured "well, no one will play it after a ban, so I'll totally skip over running anything like Fulminator Mage." The unbans likely helped it also, as Sword of the Meek and Ancestral Vision go straight into decks that beat Tron.
Don't be surprised if its results fall off once people start running stuff that hurts it again.
green looking like the dominant color in modern. cantrips, value creatures, combos, tutors...
funny the comments from the top 8 players; all of them pretty much said abzan company is the best deck right now. nice to see it rise from the ashes of pods death as a solid tier 1 option.

Grixis and Jeskai Control in the Top 16. A little underrepresented but not horrible. Blue Mooon misses at 19th too. Also, interesting to see both Abzan and Jund in equal Top 32 representation.
And company wins. Wow. Tron ended up with horrible luck...lol.

It is pretty ambitious to call that jeskai list "control". Doesn't really matter though.
Maybe Company decks will replace twin as the go-to strategy that is versatile with the power to end games on the spot, albeit slower.
Now just need an optimized UR strategy to mop up these scrubs and the format will be in a great place.

Is Collected Company the new Birthing Pod? We may need an unban of Splinter Twin to "even things out."
