I wanted to start this thread. I've been up since 8 am and was wondering when it started. Any predictions? Will Scapeshift perform? Ancestral Vision or Sword of the Meek in the top 8? Anything else?

I actually don't think we'll see Ancestral Vision or Sword of the Meek in the top 8. It probably will have a few in the top 16. My "bold prediction" is that we won't see Affinity in the top 8.

I've been saying all along that AV doesn't solve the problems of blue decks and Thopter Sword is both susceptible to lots of hate and not fast enough to keep up with many linear decks. The only reason UB Tezz beat Merfolk on camera today was the horrid draw and mediocre piloting by the Merfolk player. The display by Majors was also unimpressive. He is playing against a bunch of x/1s with a deck chock full of value removal. Game 1 SHOULD be a breeze (which it was without even resolving AV). Second game, he almost lost anyway even with TWO AVs because he had no meaningful interaction with Blood Moon or Purpheros and his clock was extremely anemic. His answers didn't deal with the relevant problems on the board and he couldn't close the game quickly. AV and T/S do nothing to help either of those issues.

So wrong. Discard into sweepers (Flaying Tendrils, Damnation, Engineered explosives) and/or Ensnaring Bridge stop fishies very well. Not a bad matchup for Tezz, even in the pre-Foundry era.

Tron looks really dumb without Eye of Ugin. I mean, it's still capable of busted things, but it looks like Karn on 3 isn't necessarily good enough if you don't draw any other gas for like 10 turns.
I hope Jund makes it into top 8 and honestly how ell it's been doing recently I expect it in the top 8. Beside Jund Scapeshift, Affinity and Burn are the most obvious top 8 options but could be Zoo as well. I'm not that sure about AV decks in top 8 and even less about Thopter combo decks. Some AV deck, most likely Grixis Control (if any) could join top 8 too although I wouldn't put it among the most expected top 8 options while I honestly don't expect Thopter decks there at least if people are prepared for it well enough which I believe they are.
Lol, Grixis control is junk compared to Jeskai Control. As long as there is UWR around in the meta Grixis isn't topping any thing.

Excited for Jund's chances with all these sideboard cards coming in: Finks, Kalitas, Baloth, and Courser. Also, very happy to see more women on camera in Magic events, let alone Modern ones.
EDIT: WELL, that didn't go so well. Win some, lose some.
Couple things... Holy crap there is a lot of company decks out there. The fish player was in a tough match up and she played poorly but in her defense she wasn't thrilled to be running the deck to begin with. Pithing needle is a thing, has been a long time. Zoo had an impressive showing. The jund/ burn mu is still ugly for jund. Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet didn't impress me much. Uhm, what else? Oh yeah, tron has been severely hamstrung. It's not dead it just can't seem to finish strong. Oh and collected company is ridiculous. Not only do you have to clear the board against it, you need the yard empty too. Oh and BoP is still a thing...just nice to see that.

It's no surprise, Abzan Company variants beat up on Zoo, Infect, and Burn while also having ample game against slower opponents with their toolbox approach with a combo finish.
It is really solidifying its position as a value deck that has game against most anything. If its perfomance keeps up I would imagine there would be an uptick in GY related tech in both main and sideboards.

It's interesting for me though. I didn't expect Abzan Company to do so well after Eldrazi was nerfed. It's solid deck but I don't think it's a top tier 1 and data shows that its meta share decreased after bannings.
Historically, the Abzan Company killer we'd really look to would be a URx Snapcaster-Bolt deck. I haven't seen a lot of these on camera, a notable exception being Michael Majors who definitely makes Day 2 with his current record. I bet we start seeing more of these on Day 2 as the URx decks that made it now get better matchups and rise to the top in the later rounds.
IDK, yeah jund has a better company mu but company has a better burn mu. As long as burn is making up a big part of the meta, company might be the better deck.

That last RG Eldrazi vs. Kiki Chord matchup showcased just how important the Eye of Ugin ban was for Modern. Gerry T had plenty of mana, Talismans, Scryings, etc., but couldn't get any inevitability going without Scrying into Eye. That's great news for Modern, because it means the ramp decks still maintain their early relevance and ability to go over the top, but now with the classical flooding-out weakness we expect for ramp strategies.

Every day is Grafdigger's Cage day.
Good call. Grafdigger's Cage is ridiculously good against Company. Their only answers really are the number of Qasali Pridemage or Reclamation Sage that they can draw off the top of their decks.
